On Wednesday, we were taken to a “traditional” tea-house for some infusion in Tea Culture: this consisted of tasting several different teas (that all tasted like Scottish Blend) and discussing the so-called aromas and subtle flavours. To put it simply … (apologies for the bad pun) …. it was not my cup of tea. There was more pomp and ceremony than the French tasting wine. However, it was good to experience this even though I didn’t greatly enjoy it.
The following night was occupied by Chinese culture of a different kind … Karaoke. This was a rather bizarre experience to say the least. It is nothing like Karaoke at home: no-one was drunk, they could actually sing and they took it seriously – no wonder they want it to be added to the events in Beijing 2008!! We were taken to a private room where we met with some other students from FESCO, we spend the evening eating, drinking and singing (well, listening in my case). It is some thing that cannot be described easily; we were joined by our teachers who could not understand our embarrassment of having to do karaoke in front of them.
