Well, I was at my mom's today and my husband came over after work so I could go home tonight. It's a 20 to 30 min drive from my mom's house to where we live. Our little girl was snoring in her car seat. We stayed a bit later than we intended. I have never been so grateful that my husband is a car nut. He replaced the brakes on our station wagon just a couple months ago. And I am so glad he did. We had TWO very close calls on the way home. They happened just outside our town. The first one was the worst. We were talking, as we usually do on our way home. We came up onto an intersection we are very familiar with. We had the right of way as the road we were doesn't stop until you get into town. A big white pick-up truck stopped at the stop sign to our right. The road we were on is a four-lane, two lanes going in each direction. We were in the lane next to the median. So, this truck stops and then punches it! If my husband hadn't slammed on the brakes, we would have hit the truck. And if he hadn't redone the brakes, he doesn't think we would have stopped in time. He says that when we stopped, we were about the distance of walking from my mom's front door, to her the front door of the house across the street. Way too close for my comfort. We think the driver of the truck was just too impatient to wait for us to get through the intersection. Our little girl didn't even wake up.
Then, we get a little ways down the road, I'm trying to calm my nerves down, and a great big doe jumps into the road from the median. Luckily we saw her just before she moved, so we were able to stop. We were very happy to get home. Very. Our little girl never stopped snoring through it all. She's curled up sound asleep in her bed right now. And I have a cat looking at me who seems to know I'm still a bit worked up. I think I'm going to pick her up and relax for a few minutes. I just needed to get this out and since it's after 10pm here at home, I know my mom is laying down, so I didn't want to call her. Thanks for listening everyone.
