I've seen a lot of news again recently about medical marijuana and the pot shops in California.

I agree that though it is legal to use for medical reasons, a sore ankle (i.e. one that isn't broken or even sprained) should not qualify as "medical" and should be deemed abuse of the system.

That being said, what about the system?  Is marijuana really the issue that we need to focus on in our country?  I don't smoke it myself though I certainly tried it back in my college days, but I have friends who do and I frankly don't think it's a big deal.  Alcohol can be a lot worse than marijuana from what I've seen!  Just think of the money to be made in the industry if it were legal ... okay, just think of the money being made in the industry now though it's illegal.

Have you ever watched the Showtime series "Weeds"?  About the widowed mom who starts dealing weed to cover her mortgage, etc.  It's hysterical!

Anyway, just voicing my two cents.  I am sick of reading stories about the medical marijuana debate ... I just think there are much worse things out there that our government turns its back on!

I agree. I think that it's high time that we look seriously at incarcerating (in Guantanomo if possible) anyone who invades a tiny country on false pretenses.

Do you remember the conservative Republican leader of perhaps a generation ago, William Buckley?  I really like him although I am not in his party, nor in the other one.

What I like so much about Buckley is that he says things that oppose his own peers.  He has long been an advocate of legalizing marijuana for all.  Not a very conservative Republican position.

It's obvious that he tried it, he liked it, and he saw no reason to outlaw it.  I like that he thinks for himself and has the courage of his convictions, regardless of how his peers will react to him.

I used to smoke a lot of it.   But that was a long time ago.  Haven't had drugs in decades.  But I really enjoyed it for years, until it turned on me and stopped being fun.

I support just flat out legalizing marijuana, making it as legal as beer and cigarettes, subject to age restrictions.  I see no reason to have it illegal.  Can't think of one good reason.  Disagree with anyone who can.

Im a recovering cocain and heroin addict. Prior to my addiction I smoked weed for 20 years and was a succesfull buisiness owner ,owned my own home and life was good.I had an accident and was hurt badly. I lost everything and said screw it and jumped into hard core addiction. I quit these hard drugs partially due to my going back to smoking weed. It calmed me down and it helped block my pain better than the opiates I was prescribed . Im now in college to become an addictions councelor and im having a tough time because im still biased on the pot issue. In my classes were taught about all the drugs and how they are all equally bad. I just dont agree. Hard drugs including the legal alcohol cause more destruction than pot ever will. If a pot head doesnt have weed he says that sux ..oh well. If an addict or alcoholic doesnt have thier prefered drug they will do almost anything to get it. I have seen countless times people do horrible things for drugs. I have seen people sell themselves, resort to stealing ,turning to robbery and theft, and Ive once saw a parent sell the unwraped christmas toys of thier children just for a few more hits. How many times have you gone to a bar and had some drunk asshole try and pick a fight. If a guy smokes a joint hes more likely to stay home ,eat some snacks and laugh at everything on tv whether its funny or not. Whats so wrong with that. I know for a fact the benefits of weed. Cancer patients use it to keep up thier appetite while on chemo and some not all panic attack victems say that a joint makes it easier to interact with people and high stress situations. I know for a fact that it helps for pain. I was hit by a car doing 40 mph and was prescribed hard core opiate pain killers and none helped me more than a fat joint.
