On Saturday I went for a short walk by the bay.  I noticed a couple of things that make me realize that we are now on the cusp of fall and winter.  Unfortunately my work computer is still being problematic about uploading to Flickr, but  I was able to upload to my other blog.

What are some of the signs you see that signal fall/winter in your mind?

Honestly, U-I it's been much too hot here to for there to be many signs of fall. We have Canadian Geese about here all the time, especially on campus since a river is right by campus and there is a good size pond in the middle of campus.

I still have gladiolas and other flowers in full bloom in my flower beds, so it looks and feels more like summer here with the flowers in bloom and 80 degree weather. It is supposed to start raining this week and begin to cool down. I think our 10 day forecast calls for weather in the 60s toward the end of those 10 days.

Zayda - Until about a week ago we were enjoying high 70s to low 80s.  The change in seasons will be quick I think, with the air now having a cool edge especially in the evenings.

I love the turn of the fall colors, from green to yellow, bronze, red, orange, all the varied and many diferent shades of the passing from summer. The scents on the air are so vibrant, so much more so to me, then at spring or in summer. the crisp cool air, not yet too cold, and the heat of summer is disipated.

these things, i love about the turn from summer to fall, and recently i too, noticed them. I went to a park here in seattle and took some pictures, found a garden even, and even got a nice pic of a tree turnign yellow.

    it was awesome.

The weather is definitely getting cooler here. We actually had some really warm weather there for awhile. And over the weekend it was rainy and cloudy too. Plus, the nights are much cooler than they usually are. But the biggest sign for me that it's getting towards fall is that it gets darker a lot sooner.

hidufel - The turning color on the leaves is so beautiful.  Unfortunately there are a lot of evergreens in the part of the state I live in.

ET - sounds a lot like this end of the state too.  I really miss having the long days, it gives you some sun after work.

to me, indications of autumn/fall are pro football and the appearance of squashes, zucchini and apple cider, in addition to a 10 degree (fahrenheit) drop in temperature or so.

although like everyone else, i haven't seen any, either, lately.

it was freaking 91 degrees here today. 91...in the upper midwest in mid-september. so...yeah.

the grocery stores are starting to put small pumpkins, varigated dried corn, and decorative squashes out, so that's a sign that it should be fall. and the pie size pumpkins are out too, which should be a sign it's fall.

but it was freaking 91 degrees today, and it's supposed to be in the low 90s tomorrow, before the storm front rolls through. the weather isn't matching up with the time of year. and they just said on the news that we were running 17 degrees above average for this time of year right now.

SW - I hear rumblings of football bluster at the office, but I don't follow it much, so I'm clueless to the seasonal indications.  I'd sure like to find an apple ranch soon though.

Zayda - Lordy woman!  You live in hell.  That's way too hot for this time of year.  Do you make your pumpkin pies from scratch?
  • Zayda said on Sep 24, 2007....
u-i: well, i'm not sure it's just the weather that makes this place hell. ;)

i haven't made a pumpkin pie completely from scratch in years. it's just much darn easier to buy the canned pumpkin and make them that way.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Sep 24, 2007....
Z - It's even easier to buy them from the local bakery ;)

It snowed two weeks ago where I was camping, the temps are in the thirties at nite, leaves are turning, birds are gathering and everytime I leave the house I need a damn sweatshirt.........hows that?

Had a lovely drive in the countryside yesterday on my way to visit the now infamous Flake. Here are a couple of shots of autumn trees there. The sky was redolent with massive flocks of geese filling up on grain and heading south for the winter. Fall is here officially!

mobil - wow, you are in real fall country.

botoni - I love the leaves turning colors.  Nice pictures!

quietone - I love the cool nights too.

SL - I mourn the days becoming short.  I really enjoy the long summer days so that I can go out walking.

It has been really hot here to not fall weather at all. The evenings have been somewhat cool but not cool enough. I love to see the leaves changing colors that  is probably one of the first signs I really look for. Fall and spring are my favorite times of year.  But especially fall with all the beautiful colors, the pumpkins, the hay rides, halloween, apple cider...and my favorite is the Fall Festival!!

hillbillygirl - Awww, you make me miss the little town I grew up in.  We did the pumpkins, hayrides and hot cider there.

So it's that time of year. A time of change. It's all around us. From the color of the leaves to the temperature in the air. I tend to reflect on the changes especially this month as I was married on Halloween. I still enjoy the holiday although my divo...
