My neighbor dragged a computer chair out to the curb last night. I assumed that it was one of those "free" things that people do around here, but I am not sure. I waited until full dark and then went and "test drove" it. I didn't see anything wrong with it, except that it had sort of an "air compressed" system with it. I sat down and was up high one second, then, down low the next. But, when I was "low" it seemed about right.
Let me tell you that the chair I have had to put up with for over a year has given me a tremendous backache. I keep meaning to go buy a new one, but never seem to get around to it. And now there is this beauty, just sitting by the curb saying--try me! The only thing missing is the "free" sign that should be taped to the seat.
It is dark now, and I am tempted to go snag the chair, just to bring it in and try it out. If it works, maybe I will take my old one out there and put it in it's place!
But what if the chair is just there for some strange reason that I don't know about? The people are usually home by now, but are not. Maybe because it is Friday night and they have gone somewhere. I don't want to wait and find out the chair was free and I was too scared to go "drag it up my driveway."
Only here in the northeast do people just put stuff outside for you to take. I saw a brush pile the other day with some good wood for fireplaces by the curb the other day. They put up a big sign next to it. It said, "Not Free." Now, tell me I am not being cautious about being arrested for stealing!
Maybe I will go get it, try it out, then put it back if it hurts my back like this one. But I will have to wait until tomorrow night after dark!
