What a lovely day it was here in the northeast! Something unusual (for me anyway) occured to make it even more of a wonderful day. Through Private Messages, I have been able to enjoy the friendship of a sweet lady. As time went by, we discovered we did not live that far apart. We continued our friendship both on SC blogs and through messages, and finally made plans to meet for lunch. I was excited, but very nervous! I arrived at our meeting place early, grabbed a bottle of water and sat at an outdoor cafe to "watch for her." No sooner than I had sat down, I saw a vehicle pass that I was pretty sure was hers. I jumped up and made my way to where she was just parallel parking. (I am impressed already here with that!) She looked just as I had envisioned----(ok, I had seen a photo!)---but I mean that she looked just as nice as I knew she would. We shook hands and made a stab at a little hug, but we were both probably a little shy. Well, I was. She was a very competent and confident lady. I could tell right away. In a matter of minutes we were on our way across town to have lunch at the agreed upon restaurant. I talked too much and too fast the way I do when I am nervous, but she was calm and collected, even though I was probably distracting her from her driving! We had a nice long lunch and chat. We talked about our families and made a few oblique references to SC. I think we were both in silent agreement that it would be in bad taste to "gossip." I promise, we only said nice things in nice ways.
Afterwards, we went to a nearby park and took a nice walk. We chatted some more, but at times just walked and listened to the peaceful sound of silence among the tall pines. There was an occasional bluejay welcoming our new friendship into the world.
I hope that someday down the line we can get together again--maybe for shopping or to meet at some festival or something. That would be really nice.
Ok--I will tell you who this lovely lady is rather than make people guess. I started to hide clues and make a game out of it. But meeting a friend for the first time merits more than a guessing game....
It was quietone!
Thank you for a wonderful day, a wonderful memory, and the chance to learn that I can open up and trust.
I think she may post a pic of the park area where we walked. She mentioned it, and I look forward to seeing it.
