Hi SoulCasters,

We've been getting some questions from users asking how to get more search engine traffic to their blog posts. The trick is to use keywords effectively in your blog posts and your blog titles.

I always learn better by example, so consider this. Let's say you want to write a blogpost raving (or ranting) about Hilary Clinton.

Goto the WordTracker Keyword Tool and type in Hilary Clinton. You will get a long list of keywords---these are the most commonly searched keywords in search engines like Google and Yahoo. The left column shows an estimate of the number of times that this keyword is searched for in search engines. For example, approximately 102 people search for "hilary clinton cleavage" per day.

Anyways... To get more traffic, you want to write blogposts that will show up on the top 10 of search results when people search these keywords. To do this, simply keep in mind what kind of keywords people search for and incorporate these words into your blogpost. Also, be sure to use a keyword rich title tag. Title tags help search engines understand what your blogpost is about. So instead of the title "Potshots at Clinton's Wife Crack Me Up", a better alternative would be "Hilary Clinton Jokes"---keep it short, simple, and concise.

In addition, you can get more search engine traffic if you can get other websites to link to your blogpost. So if you write a great blogpost with hilarious Hilary jokes, tell your friends and family members to link to your article from their personal blogs and websites. When search engines see a blogpost with a lot of links pointing to it, they will think that your page is important, and your post will have a higher chance of showing up in the top 10 search results.

That's pretty much it, if you have any questions, please leave a comment and I'll be sure to help you out.

we put the tags in the meta keywords (do a view source to see) which makes them relevant.

Speaking of links and sharing your blogs, SC have you thought about adding a link to StumbleUpon! in the "Share It" section of links that currently include reddit, Digg, and del.icicio?

Email me at desertsienna@yahoo.com about any tips on the promotion of literature and journalism on the web.  I can take care of my poetry but was thinking of getting into freelance journalism.  One idea was to fax ideas for stories to various magazines after reviewing their material.  Any ideas on marketing a blog, as in, does Google the sign-up for bus. prom. actually work?

I thought it was more to do with back-links and less to do with metag tags ?

It's a combination of things sigmar. Backlinks (or inbound links) are a huge part of it. So is optimization (including proper use of keywords in both context, titles, descriptions and meta data.)

This article on the triangular theory of love is so true.

This could almost be what love is. I mean can it be defined or explained in a way that we all agree?...
lately other things have been on my mind. of course, this is understandable given what has happened. but i'm finding that these other things are getting in the way. and it's really hard to separate them from the reality of what has happened....
