First blog tonight, and it happens to fall on one of the anniversary of the worst terrorist attack in american history. But as we hit the 6th anniversary of what happened in New York and Washington, and also the heroes in SW Penn, I wonder just if we have failed on our promise that most americans made just after the attacks, That promise is that we would never forget.
Yes, I know life has a way to come and go and things happen, but I feel that we should listen to the country-western song called "Have you forgotten" by Darryl Worley. He released it a couple of years ago, but I feel that this song has more meaning on this the 6th anniversary of the attacks. Here are just some of the lyrics of the song:
"I've been there with the soldiers
Who've gone away to war
And you can bet that they remember
Just what they're fighting for
Have you forgotten all the people killed?
Yeah, some went down like heroes in that Pennsylvania field
Have you forgotten about our Pentagon?
All the loved ones that we lost and those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry about bin Laden
Have you forgotten?
Who've gone away to war
And you can bet that they remember
Just what they're fighting for
Have you forgotten all the people killed?
Yeah, some went down like heroes in that Pennsylvania field
Have you forgotten about our Pentagon?
All the loved ones that we lost and those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry about bin Laden
Have you forgotten?
Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell
And we vowed to get the one’s behind bin Laden
Have you forgotten?"
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell
And we vowed to get the one’s behind bin Laden
Have you forgotten?"
Folks, if you were like me I woke up special early this morning, even on a day off from work or college to relive those terrible few hours when we didn't know what was going to happen thanks to MSNBC. I didn't go to any memorial services today, because there wasn't any at all in my area, so I did my own. Which goes back to my original point, 1 or 2 years after the attacks nearly every town or city in America had special services to commeriante the sad occasion. But now? even in New York, the families had to fight to get access to ground zero today, with it now becoming a construction site and not a site of terror, and even WABC tv in New York at first was NOT going to air the entire service from beside Ground zero, until major outcry from families of the 9-11 victims, and from 9-11 survivors made them change their minds.
Folks, have we really forgotten what happened? My opinion on this, If we as americans forget what happened, then the terrorists have won the war! also, How many of you flew an american flag today? Remember when people would risk their lives by being on the edge of highway overpasses to fly the flag, even the morning after the attacks, but now? you hardly see ANYONE flying their flag unless it's at a government building. But why?
As I end my first blog, I ask YOU, have you forgetten what happened on 9-11-2001? I haven't.
