I've been at Soulcast for a year today. It's a shame I don't have anything really profound to say for an occasion like this, but I'll do what I can.
Well, I've made a ton of great friends, read hundreds of thoughts, opinions, anecdotes, even literary pieces. I, much like many of us, were sucked in with the promise of getting paid to blog. I eventually gave up on the whole Adsense... nonsense... and just started blogging. I came across other people's blogs, commented a bit, awaited comments on my own, and became involved in the community.
Yeah, I like calling this place a community. I can hardly think of any other places around the Internet in which I can readily classify as a community. Think of the other mainstream blogging services and the tens of millions of people who hold accounts there. They're like major cities, an immense metropolis full of individuals, all raising their voices in an effort to stand out-- the more voices in the air, the more inclined one is to make his own heard.
But here is like a much smaller town, maybe a hamlet or a township of people who stray from the outskirts of the metropolis. New members are welcomed fondly, and those who enjoy the community become fixtures here. Everyone knows everyone, in some degree or another. A small community with members across the globe, it's amazing how in a world of billions of people, a tiny percentage of the Earth's population can converge and just share thoughts. I absolutely love it.
Thank you, fellow Soulcasters, for a magnificent year!
