I posted this picture of my sister and I awhile back.  It's one of my favorite of the two of us.  I am the one who has the original, so I thought I'd share it with B in a special way.  It lookes kind of golden in this picture, but it was done in silver, black and white.

I found the paper with writing on it (matting in the frame) at a craft store and it looked so vintage to me.  Then I used silver thread to embroider the marquise shape onto the paper.  It's like the old string art kits we used to do on velvet lined boards, but with paper and thread.  Next I cut out the silver circle with an intriquite pattern embossed in it, copied the picture in B&W and cut it slightly smaller.  I found the frame on clearance for under $5 and took the glass and other things out of it.  I put in the matting, circle and picture and tightened the back.  I think anything that is dimentional should be open and touchable. (so no glass to get in the way)  I was very happy with how it turned out.

I enjoyed making this so much I'm considering making "blank" versions to sell for pocket money.

quietone - thank you!  when a person has beautiful old pictures it just doesn't make sense not to display them beautifully.

    UI:
That is some AMAZING work!  I wish I understood more clearly the process of doing this, lol!  You know how a doctor needs to speak in laymans terms...crafters do too!  I need to do something to take my mind off of all my "achesandpains" and I love working with photo's.  This seems like it wouldn't hurt my back, annoy me to a point where I would toss it out the window or just give up out of pure frustration.

    Great job, I LOVE it!

Daily - with the exception of the needlework, it was very easy and quick.  I'll message you later with a couple of links that describe the needle work.

i think that's a great idea, u-i! do you have a good-sized craft store nearby to which you can sell it? and will you have trouble figuring out how to price it?

SL & Battycat - Thank you.

SW - I was thinking consignment stores, antique shops (since older pics will be featured) and online.  As far as pricing, I thought I'd research some local and online sites for ideas.

If you are seriously thinking of selling them, you could look into http://www.etsy.com. I've sold 4 things on there already.

I love this! You really could make some money selling those...with the good ideas that have come up on SC, I am thinking of opening a little shop....Mamie's Friends' Treasures...you all can "bring" your stuff and people can shop the catalog! Very nice...and once you figure out the price, I would like to buy one for my mom and one for my bro. Thanks! M

Expendable - thank you, I hope she likes it too.

botoni - I'm blushing at the M word, but thanks for thinking it so.

gingersoul - I will have to see what's involved with ebay such as fees, etc.

purple - I like Etsy.  It was one of the sites I was considering.

queen - thank you, with such good feedback here I am going to give it a try.

skald - you are too kind

Mamie - I'd be honored to be included in your Mamie's Friends.  If you are serious about some frames message me and I'm sure we can work something out ;)
