Week one happened. The Patriots, the Colts and the Chargers all won. They all won big, despite their game scores. The 3 teams won a combined 98-27.
Tom Brady threw to Randy Moss for 183 yards, the most of any Patriot reciever EVER in the Tom Brady era of Patriot football. The Chargers' LaDanian Tomlinson had a better passer rating than most starting quarterbacks, and he has thrown for more touchdowns this season than Brett Favre. Peyton Manning threw for 3 more touchdowns to add to his ridiculous total. If he stays on this pace, which is NOT impossible, he would break his own record, throwing for 45 touchdowns this year.
These three teams all play in the AFC. There is no equal in the NFC, as the Chargers proved on Sunday. They held the Bears without a touchdown. They held Cedric Benson to 42 rushing yards on 19 attempts, for a 2.2 ypc average. Rex Grossman was only 52% accurate, which by all means is a good game for him. The Bears looked bad, but at least they held the best running back in the game to a 1.7 ypc average. They really shut down LaDanian Tomlinson throughout the game.
Worse yet for the NFC, the New Orleans Saints, who were being touted as the best team, the best offensive team, the Colts of the NFC, got ROUTED by the real Colts 41-10. They looked out of place on that field. Drew Brees threw for 2 interceptions and no touchdowns.  Deuce McAllister and Reggie Bush, the running back tandem that should be dominating every defense, especially the suspect Colts running defense, had 3 yards per carry and no touchdowns. The only touchdown the Saints scored was a defensive one. That is not a good sign for the Saints.
Worse yet, maybe for the rest of the NFL, the Patriots beat up on an AFC opponent, the one who was supossed to challenge them for the AFC East. Look out NFL, because if week 1 is any showing of what the Patriots can do to a good team, then everyone better look out, because defenses will not be able to match the Patriots in speed, with Randy Moss and Donte Stallworth, they can't match the phsyical play of Wes Welker and Ben Watson through the middle, and they can't handle the Patriots offensive line giving Brady time to through a 50 yard touchdown strike into TRIPLE COVERAGE to Randy Moss. The Patriots running game is going to be strong, as the combined effort of Laurence Maroney and Sammy Morris rushed for 126 yards and 4.3 yards per carry. This was on a Jets team that should have been good, and maybe they will be. They just were unable to match the Patriots depth at Quarterback, running back, wide reciever, and tight end.
