this is a repost.

i will not be blogging about the mass murders that occurred six years ago today. for those who need to discuss it, turn your attention to any number of other blogs about the date today.

i won't blog about it mainly b/c that date, for several reasons, is meaningful to me for reasons having nothing to do w/ terrorism. and this navel-gazing fascination here in the US about the date is, to me, somewhat masochistic and twisted.

so what would you rather discuss today? football? the changing seasons? art?

Me, neither.  A friend of mine's got a birthday today, and damn if we're not going to live it up.
  • Battycat said on Sep 11, 2007....
    I respect that.

I agree totally!!! It's just another day for me, at work talking to the same simple minded nitwits I talk to everyday.

And what about you Ed, how is your day so far?

How about...hmm...freaky chips?? :-D There's a "Fiery Habanero" variety I've never seen on store shelves...I can only imagine what sort of dreams those would trigger!

    Ooooh, post idea!

blue: that's the right attitude. speaking of such birthdays, visit zsuzsio later today. you ever gonna post a new blog again, btw?

    battycat: thank you.

biglove: i'm reminded of the old saying that the best revenge is living well. :> it's, well...another day. and honestly, that's what i want it to be for me.

infernal: o, i'll leave the freaky chips all to you. :p

Silver - it reminds me of a church i was involved in a few years ago. they had gone through a split and lost half their membership. when i started going there, it had been over 2 years since the split, and they were still wearing it like an open wound. after living through 6 months of that, i finally had to stand up publically before half the remaining congregation at a church function and tell them that they needed to let go of it, that the event was in the past and should remain there, that they needed to turn their focus to the future in order for the pain to subside, because they were already too stuck in the past, and it was hurting their purpose in the present.

that's my opinion on the subject of today's date also.

so, what exactly are freaky chips anyway?

ed:  Just dropped in to report that my war against the insects is going bad.  I've lost the outpost, and the invasion is nearing the front door, total infestation imminent.  However, I am glad to report that a secret weapon is but weeks away.  Once the frost hits, the bloodsuckers will trouble us no more.

On a sadder note, the first frost also means that my bike has to be winterized soon.  :(
  • silverwhisper said on Sep 11, 2007....
trav: did your saying so help them do so? and you'll have to ask infernal about the freaky chip. :>

grape: dude, it's in the mid 70s where i am and raining. winterizing is a dirty word to me still, but more power to you. of course, as i'm reading i keep flashing back to scenes from FOTR: "they have taken the bridge"...

Today, I am celebrating my closest friends birthday (even if it's more in spirit than anything since she is nearly 800 miles away). So, I will always think about that first, on September 11th.

i'd say that's both right and proper. :>

I'm interested in what Trav said and how it affected the church members!?  :-o
  • travelr712 said on Sep 11, 2007....
well, they didn't stand up and cheer, as you probably figured out. but it was enough to 'convict' the people that were there that they had been wallowing in self pity and maybe it was time to put it behind them. since there were several 'leading families' who others took their cues from (and who had been the loudest commiserating voices) that had been there and heard what i said, there was no more lamenting after that, and they actually started looking forward to the future. the tone of the church changed somewhat, they stopped living in the past, and started moving forward.

I don't ever want to forget what happened, but I avoided the news totally today.  I couldn't relive it at this point in my life.

This was a tough day a couple of years ago....but we are not talking about that.

(Please do not think me as callous...that day affected me deeply....so, so sad....but we are not going there right?)

So all I have to say is as a baseball fan......what the hell is up with the damn Phillies?
They are letting me down once again.

That's part of America right?  Baseball and apple pie?

I really have to find a new team to support.  Any suggestions?

God bless you all....today and every other day!

HH: thank you! and yeah, there was rainy on and off most of the day where i am. the weather's a bit better now, though--should be more seasonable the rest of the week. :>

CW: as you might have guessed, i agree.

jenna: no, that isn't callous--not in the least! heh..well, you could support the mets, which is what a lot of yankee-haters do, i think... :D

grape: o...my...god...that was brilliant! my thanks!

blue: ah, i see you're still working on that. :D
