My dear lambs,
An interesting comment that was made in the article about Odinism becoming more popular came when discussing the fact that many of the inmates were grouping together for safety. Meeting as a religious group was a way to form a bond for safety. The quote was, "And you have to have a god in the middle of that to really keep you safe."
What an interesting statement. You have to worship a god to be safe. A god, not the God. That in itself was an interesting point made in a Christian society. Interesting too was that the gods protect hate groups as long as they worship the gods. That replaces the old adage of love thy neighbor or go to hell.
Maybe the gods are just vain beings and as long as you worship them, they will do you favors. It's not about how you live your life but who you pay homage to.
Still, it seems odd that you must believe in a god to be safe. These guys are banding together in order to protect each other. That would provide a fair amount of safety. The other aspects in their lives would seem to only bring more danger to them. Being a white supremist in prison would seem to make you a target for anyone that isn't white. Being a follower of a Norse god that many people that was dead makes you a target as well. Choosing an unpopular god to worship can bring great harm.
What do you think, my lambs? Does worshipping one of the hundreds of possible gods provide you with safety?
Pay the Preacher!
