queenieP, I have never heard of such a problem. I don't think insufficient memory would affect the monitor. Does the monitor actually turn off? or is there still power to the monitor and the screen goes black? Is it OK for a long time if only One program is running? It is pretty care but it could be the monitor but I doubt it,tell us more!! What operating system?how much ram? (memory)etc  Maybe you should not have so many programs open at the same time!

hello rupert! thanks for responding! yeah it's okay if only a few programs is running. sometimes the moniro turns off or the screen just get stuck wont move. the monitor is new i just bought it! it's only 256 MB of RAM. what do you think i should do?

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1182

     go
to this link and download the program called Dustbuster. Install it on your computer and run it. It will clean all the useless stuff off your computer. After time a lot of useless stuff gets left on the computer when you install and uninstall programs, this build up gradually slows the computer. Also you should run the defragmenter program. You need to click on START on the bar at the bottom of the screen, then go to "all programs", there you will see "accessories",open that and in the list you will see disk defragmenter.Click on that and it will defragment the hard drive. This will help the computer to run a little faster.

If you have windows XP- I don't know if you do? IF you do and you want to open several programs at the same time, I think you should try and get another 256mb Ram - either that or only open a very few programs at one time. Hope this helps-good luck!

IF THE LINK DOES NOT WORK THEN CLEAR THE ADDRESS BAR AT THE TOP OF THE SCREEN, WHERE IT HAS THE SOULCAST ADDRESS,THEN REST THE MOUSE JUST TO THE RIGHT OF THE 1182 IN THE LINK I SENT, HOLD DOWN THE LEFT MOUSE BUTTON AND SLOWLY DRAG THE MOUSE POINTER TO THE LEFT UNTIL YOU REACH THE START OF THE LINK,THIS WILL HIGHLIGHT IT (PROBABLY BLACK,IT MIGHT TAKE A BIT OF PRACTICE) WHEN YOU GET IT,CLICK WITH THE RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON AND WHEN THE MENUE OPENS CLICK ON "COPY" pPLACE THE MOUSE POINTER IN THE ADDRESS BAR AT THE TOP (WHERE THE SOULCAST ADDRESS WAS) CLICK THE RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON AGAIN AND THEN CLICK ON PASTE WITH THE LEFT MOUSE BUTTON. NOW THE ADDRESS FROM THE LINK IS IN THE ADDRESS BAR AT THE TOP OF THE SCREEN - YES? OK NOW PRESS ENTER AND IT WILL TAKE YOU TO THE SITE AND YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE BROGRAM!!  TRUST ME! ITS A PIECE PF CAKE!!!

hi queenie. more ram is a good thing. another 256 meg stick will enhance your overall performance. i don't recommend running with under 512 meg, but i would be surprised if this solves your problem. you probably are still using the monitor driver from your old monitor. try going to the manufaturer's website of your monitor and downloading and installing the latest version of the driver for your particular monitor.

in rare cases, a video card will not work with a particular monitor very well, this could also be a problem, but i doubt that. it wouldn't hurt to update the video card driver also. it is also possible that you had a 'weak' line on either your cable or one of the pins on your video card, and the new monitor is showing that problem up. try pluging different monitor in to your computer and see if the same problem exists.

however, do not use the microsoft windows update hardware drivers for the video controller or monitor. those are the most consistently corrupting drivers on their site.

usually when you put a new device on your system and it doesn't perform well, it's because of drivers.

Queen- I think it is your ram card also.  Check and see how many programs you are using in the background and removing some of those will help.  Also do regular maintenance on your computer, ie disk defragment,  disk cleanup, I also use a spyware program that removes spywar and I run an antivirus program every week.  Also don't forget to change the oil and check the spark plugs too. :)

queen, make sure you have the right driver for that monitor, first and foremost. if that isn't the problem, make sure your graphics card recognizes the monitor correctly.

that's really the extent of what i know about hardware, but i think there are a few soulcasters whose knowledge of hardware is much better than mine.

I was going to say that it might be the driver as well - you can get some seriously wonky monitor performance without the right driver(s) installed. The computer screen freezing with lots of programs open does sound like a possible RAM issue, esp. with the relatively small amount you have right now.

I think Trav pretty much covered everything I could say to you that might help. Good luck!

If only the monitor turns off, I'd place my 2 cents on the driver.

I think I have seen a problem like that in our computer lab, it's either the cables, the driver or the graphics card.  I wouldn't blame the ram because mine is also 256 and it works fine with lots of programs running.

    Much respect.

This is an odd problem. First you have to figure out if the problem is the monitor or the computer, I'm going to guess it's the computer. Hopefully you have a spare monitor, if so connect the second monitor when the first stops working. See if it works, or if your computer isn't sending out the signal.

my monitor is new. i think its the computer do i need more RAM?
  • bloc said on Sep 12, 2007....
you don't need more ram, if it's turning off then something is wrong. You may have a bad video card, but it's impossible for me to trouble shoot it if I can't play with it. You should try to find a way to duplicate the problem on demand and take it in to get fixed.
