I have a big boo boo.  A really big boo boo and I am shamelessly asking for sympathy.

I was in the process of getting dinner on the table.  I was attempting to move a pot full of boiling water and pasta from the stove to the sink.  The pot over balanced and you can imagine what happened next.  Water sloshed out of the pot, all over my poor little cute little sweet little left hand.  Waaaaaaahhhhhh!

The back of my hand and the backs of my index, middle, and ring fingers are all burned.  I ate dinner with my hand submerged in a bowl if ice water.  It's already very red, and blisters are forming on the back of my hand.

When I do it, I really do it right.  And all because I'm too damn stubborn to ask for help.

It really hurts...  I need to have a good whine.

    Ouch, Mimi! You poor thing!

Little one is sleeping, but she would say, "Oh, no! Boo boo!" and blow kisses to make you feel better.

Mimi hon, get to the doctor, please. I'm not sure what they'll do about it but it doesn't please me that it's blistering already.

    oh and (((((Mimi)))))

MISSMIMI!!! Ouch! Now let me advise you. If you ve got blisters from a burn you need to get your pretty little ass to a clinic right now. I ve had 2nd and 3rd degree burns to my hands from hot oil. Damn painful and very very subject to infection and really ugly scaring. A good clinic can dress, clean and tend those blisters so that there will be minimal long term damage. GO NOW DAMMIT!

Mimi, my nurse is unavailable right now, so I can't ask her. But I really do think this sounds like something a doctor should look at. I burned myself once pretty badly, and I didn't see a doctor. Then the blisters popped and got all infected and I ended up getting really sick. It might be a good idea to see your doctor. If it blisters like that, it could be serious.

I once tilted a hot pan of grease onto my foot, when the handle was broken and I didn't know it.  I stepped outside and stuck my foot in the snow!  The doc said it was the best thing I could have done.  If you have serious damage, you should see a doc!  I thought mine was just nothing, but then I heard talk about "skin grafts" and such--and ended up on crutches.  Hope yours isn't serious enough to see a doc, but if it is, can you beat mine?  My scar is shaped like the United Kingdom!

Owwww, it hurts just thinking about it!  Listen to Botoni and get to the doctor, at least you can get something for the pain!
  • MissMimi said on Aug 28, 2007....
The pain has really calmed down.  I kept a bag of frozen corn on it all night.  It is really red, and there may be a small blister on the back of my hand.  I can't really tell because it's a little swollen, and I'd rather not poke around at it too much.

I have it covered now with a gauze pad that I put some Neosporin on.  I guess I'll live.  But, boo hoo, I hate getting burned.

actually the pain is gone.  It stings if I touch it or bump it, but it doesn't throb any more.  I think the ice helped a lot.  If it looks worse ot hurts in the morning, I'll go see the doctor.

[sits back and listens for the expected nagging and scolding]

Strange......i have been always told to never put water or ice on fresh blisters.

Good is working for you ....you know what is great in absorbing the heat and the swollen? Raw potato. Yep....when i cook and burn my fingers i put some potatoe slice on the part...it works like a charm....

**then i roast the potato with garlic.....yummi......LOL....(kidding)** ..

Can I put the vanilla in cookie batter and eat the cookies?  Will that help?  :D
  • wakingharmony said on Aug 29, 2007....

ok ok lol ...I knew I was putting myself out there with this on....lol....But what have you got to loose  1st  I always put under cold water to stop burning process, while under water I grab Vanillia which is always out when cooking (now) pour some on area, grab a few paper towels soak with vanillia and put on area  can pour more on towel over sink   if burn blisters or skin is broke go to Dr.  ..ER.  I   never had to go there  except when Daughters Did with the Fire deal with my girls.....and they couldnt belive that Colleen the baby had only one tiny red mark on her leg & the singed eyelashes and hair on one side of body , older sister had deep 2nd degree burns on her stomach  still has scars (she didn't put anything on herself after putting herself out from fire..she only would take care of her sister till EMTS got there...the other person there,(That was allowd there) had a hard time geting her to put her self out, and let him put the baby . She is still terrified of fires (both ) But I was and am so proud of how she acted so quickly.....I was called after 911.

  • Eilan said on Aug 29, 2007....
Sounds like you did the right thing by getting ice on it right away and keeping it there.  My husband did something similar a few years back--he burned both of his hands (the palms, though) when he tripped and fell into a fire.

Guess you won't be backhanding anyone with your left hand for a while!  :D
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 30, 2007....
