Can you show examples of intentional dishonesty from a liberal member of the press or media? If you can, here's the place to do it.

In the last few months we've had some spirited discussions of media bias and these have often led to  comparisons between Bll O'Reilly of Fox News and Dan Rather, formerly of CBS News. O'Reilly has been shown to have broadcast  fabricated information on his television and radio shows, usually to show liberals in a bad light, but without any penalty from Fox. Dan Rather also fabricated information that was injurious to President Bush, but he was subsequently fired from CBS.

These discussions have led me to wonder about media bias and media dishonesty, which are two separate things. We all have our biases. I may prefer dark comedies over romances when I choose a movie to watch, but whichever one my wife selects when it's her turn, I'm going to watch the movie anyway. In this case I have kept my bias to myself. On the other hand, if I hold a liberal bias and try to spread the word that Alberto Gonzales was a pederast (which is no doubt completely untrue), then I'm being deceitful in my attack on someone with whom I have a political disagreement. Do you see the difference here? Good.

So, Bloc has done a good job of identifying several instances where Bill O'Reilly has been deceitful in his attacks on liberals and their policies. The discussion in the thread where he did this, called Bill O'Reiily has no inegrity, led to a discussion of the fairness of singling out O'Reilly. I then asked for examples of similiarly dishonest behavior by liberal journalists.

And this is the place to put forth your examples.

Please, let's make this a civil discussion. In order to be able to judge the truth (or deceit) in an example, we need links to the original source or a You Tube clip. It won't add anything to the discussion if you just mention a news story from the past without giving the original source beecuse we won't be able to judge for ourselves. So please, original sources for all claims please.

It's your turn.

just to be pedantic, Rather didn't fabricate anything, he published something that was fabricated and it appears to me that he did not realize it was fabricated until after he published it. CBS fired him for this, and  I wish Faux News had such standards.

Thanks, bloc, for the clarification. I do think that this separates Rather from O'Reilly in two ways: culpability and consequences. Rather was responsible for the truth of what he put on the air, and he paid the consequence for failing to broadcast the truth. But if he did so unknowingly, then he was not culpable of willful deceit.

Am I allowed to just sit back here, watch and learn a little from you guys?  Maybe ask a dumb (well, would be dumb to you smarties) question or two?  If you could answer any questions I might have, please use remedial english.

    Thanks!

I need some remedial education given that giant run on sentence in my last comment. One of these days I'll learn to reread my comments before I click that button :)

LOL!  Bloc, I wasn't referring to that!
You know it's lame when people comment on grammar in a post, but doing it on your own comment...that's just too funny!

Technical Writing screwed me for life...I'm not kidding!

So...does your comment mean that you'll use baby words if I ask a question?  ;-)

    Thanks,

I'm beginning to wonder if all the usual suspects among our conservative friends here at SC have seen this post but have nothing to post?

I am honestly interested in discussing bias in the media and this is not some kind of trap that I'm setting for conservatives. It's disappointing that no one has posted anything for discussion yet.

LJ:  I wish I could post something good.  I'm just trying to follow the conversation/debate when it starts.

Politically speaking, I don't know what I am.  Even here at SC I don't pick sides in war of words.

Sorry, LJ, I took my medication already and I'm sure I'm not making sense! GAH!

Daily, it's not a problem. Besides, with the Red Sox so many games ahead of the Yankees, I'm in a very generous mood these days.

But where, oh where, are the conservatives with their damning evidence of liberal media bias?

wait--you mean neither smb, BST or alienated has made an appearance in this discussion. how utterly shocking!

LJ...Yes, but they're playing the Yankee's and they LOST...twice!  I know they're ahead, but it still irks me to the bone.

Speaking of Yankee's...Our neighbor has one of those signs posted "Yankee Fan Parking ONLY, all violators will be towed" and the funny thing...nobody parks there!  I don't know if I should go over to rip him a new one, or if it's a joke.  Either way, I hate seeing "YANKEE" out my window looking at his driveway.  EEEK!

I'm guessing they haven't posted because they can't live up to the same standards they demanded of us when talking about O'reilly or Hannity.
  • dailyachesandpains said on Aug 30, 2007....
Bloc:  Hannity...what the hell is he?  I know who he is, but what he is I do not know.
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 30, 2007....
sean hannity is a political "entertainer" on fox news.

Does a president have to follow a specific curriculum to qualify? Should you have to be a career politician to be President? What other jobs or professions might build good credentials to lead politically?
