thanks for posting these, beyond. it took me back to grad school days when i took a couple of folklore classes and a couple of children's lit classes. i'm excited to say that i still remembered all the correct answers save one. :)

and zsuzsio, it's not useless information, especially not for someone who studies literature.

I didn't get the answers to any of these except guessing correctly at three, which doesn't count.

Kudos for you zayda. And quite the memory you have.

Thanks des, Ed, and zsuz for commenting.

Beyond--The folklore classes were some of my favorite classes in my Master's program. And I have a collection of Grimm's fairytales in their original (not Disneyfied) forms. I still pull them out and read them occassionally because I love the language in them. One of my projects for an independent study class during my Master's program was a focused study on cultural variants of Cinderella, so I'm quite familiar with many versions of that tale, including the Chinese version, which is reportedly the oldest.

This was fun to read.  As a child and young woman I used to know a lot of Grimms and other fairy tales by heart but now Oh boy  I can't tell my grandchildren them and by the way I often wonder if those stories are for children.

I thought I knew my fairtytales pretty well (I even took a German Fairytales in Translation class in college... my prof was a world reknowned authority on Little Red Riding Hood), and still I got stumped on a bunch of them... even the LRR one.  Interesting post, beyond.
