A mOOn platOOn Special Edition

There was enough blog space devoted to the controversy to fill a book, and a good portion of one’s summer reading could well have been a compilation of the many posts generated by the posting of three modestly suggestive pictures by The Naked Professor on May 1, 2007.

By using our messaging system, I invited The Naked Professor (TNP) to be interviewed regarding his controversial post with links to photos of naked women and masturbation. And I’ll state at the outset that the post in question can be visited without seeing any pictures and is an amusing read even without them.

This summer’s SoulCast Morals and Ethics course began with TNP’s  “The Naked Professor Shows His Credentials: ANATOMY 101” and has yet to come to a decisive end, even though at this point redundant lessons are underway among newcomers.

While erotica has been a staple of SoulCast since the beginning, it has generally been of the written variety.

mOOn_platOOn: Why did you choose to post such graphic photos in your post?

TNP: On my anatomy post I decided that visuals made more sense. Keeping in mind the possible range of SoulCasters’ sensitivities, I restricted the photos to links only, requiring an extra step to actually view the pictures, so that no one would come upon them accidentally.

At first, everyone seemed to be enjoying the proceedings, even this reader:

Here was the spark needed to start the fire. Notice no concern for children at this point. No condemnation of picture posting. No indignation at the sight of a woman showing her vagina (Bittch). Just approval along with a touch of gay-bashing and mockery.

mOOn_platOOn: You didn’t reply to CamDaMan20’s gay comment right away. Why not?

TNP: I allowed him to enjoy the post for a couple more days as more pics came in, genitalia flying around everywhere, before replying to him because I was deciding whether or not to use the power of delete and block to keep the post ‘pure.’ On track. But I hated his attitude and had to get my two cents in before I booted him.

TNP’s eventual reply to Cam:

TNP: Cam, That was only part of it. The plot was far more complex than you suspect. I was attempting to appear as a gay man as a straight man would portray a gay man, so that gay men would actually be turned off while straight women would feel comfortable looking before succumbing to the subtle time-delayed pheromone release-trigger nanobits embedded in each shot. Meanwhile, as an unfortunate side-effect, straight men would find me disturbingly attractive (though not sexually but emotionally, as my freedom serves as a vicarious release) and the most unsettled would be compelled to make some comment about gays right after jerking off at his keyboard before understanding what happened. That nervous laugh at the end of your paragraph sort of says it all. Sorry. I did include a disclaimer in the description. You aren’t really Quidnuc, are you? (see my post "I’m Not Gay And I’m Not A Macho Asshole, Either").

While everyone else continued having a good time with this now-record-breaking post, CamDaMan20’s pleasure had been taken, for he was mocked and blocked. Some posts are for controversial debates within, but TNP decided that Anatomy 101 should be strictly for fun and so he blocked anyone who was there for argument after their first or second post. Instead of going away in a huff like mature individuals do, Cam was fuming.

Some others took issue with TNP, to be sure, as more women in ever-more daring photos appeared along with increasingly revealing photos of the sub-professor (I can’t bring myself to call him “the little professor” out of politeness).

For example, hunter_boyce_chandler was beside himself, calling the post “…this vile cheap attempt at enhancing readership." They shared this exchange…

TNP: “Readership? You think people are reading this post? Or that the ones attracted are enhancements? This is all for my own kinky pleasure. You just ticked ‘cause you didn’t think of it first! Naaaaa!”

Hunter: “…by encouraging many women to post revealing pics about themselves…"

TNP: “Had I only known that they were so easily encouraged when I was a youth. I doubt Marvel Comics would be where they are today.”

Hunter: "I studied each and every one of them at length…"

TNP: "’Studied.’ Harumph. Your "study" probably compares to Bill Clinton’s "experiment" with weed. Academize it all you want, the "length" was reportedly mediocre (source: Mrs. HBC). Next time you’re whacking off make sure the bathroom door is closed all the way.”

Hunter: "…paranoid that I would find Mrs. HBC or maybe some of the people who have been an uplift to my own spirituality."

TNP: “Oh you found them brother, you found them. And they lifted up more than your spirit. Don’t tell me that you missed identifying the fetching body of ALIENated’s alter-ego? And just who do you think ‘anonymous’ is?”

Hunter: “I did not find her (Mrs. HBC) but I am pretty sure she participated in some regard."

TNP: “Mrs. HBC is coming up in our FOOT FETISH section. Ladies, start lining up those foot photos...”

Hunter: "I am stupified. I find my self blathering incoherently."

TNP: “Isn’t that what stupefied people do? And how exactly does one "find oneself" doing something? Were you sleep-blathering?”

Hunter: "How dare you sir."

TNP: “Hello? It’s me!”

Hunter: "Now in keeping with my policy on non-commenting on any post of a sexual nature, I hereby have nothing to say at this juncture."

TNP: “You can say that again.”

Suddenly, however, a dejected CamDaMan20 appeared with a new tact. He posted a bold headline in his own post proclaiming The Naked Professor a pedophile, and said…

I believe a recent post by the NP was a cheap shot to get away w/ exposing himself, not only to adults, but to the underage folks that stroll thru SC regularly. Can you honestly say that the Post was...... A WORK OF ART......OR..... PEDOPHILIA AT WORK ? OR, other ?

mOOn_platOOn: Professor, why did you let Cam go on for days without defending yourself?

TNP: I was unaware of the growing controversy even as silverwhisper defended me. When Zayda alerted me, I got caught up.

silverwhisper : .... cam, you better have some very serious evidence to support that claim because that's a pretty damned serious claim. TNP is wacky but i've never had any reason to think what you apparently think. seriously...WTF? you might as well say the same of anybody who writes erotica on their blog entries. hell, you've gone on at great length yourself about the joys of sex, cam. are you just throwing it out there in the hopes that some kid sees it? no, i didn't think so. so why in the hell would you say that of him?

More readers registered confusion after looking at the pictures, trying to figure out what the big deal was, like the extremely right-winged ALIENated…

ALIENated: Cam, you might want to know that there is just about anything you can think of out on this here new fangled internet. You best keep your kids off it or have a dang good filter. Even a backward old codger like me knows all that. Geez. Are the pictures still on that post? I did not see anything like what you are talking about. Just some R-rated (at worst) pictures of a guy and some pictures of naked women probably pulled off the internet. I did not read every comment above so I may be missing something.

whyamidepressed?:  I went to have a look for myself to see who I thought was "right" those pictures are so not anywhere in the realm of pedophila(sic). what?

Anyway, after several more rounds of him trying to defend his position and readers attempting to discern his true motivation, Cam gave them this (instead of simply admitting that he was angry that TNP called him homophobic and blocked him):

CamDaMan20: Why am I pissed, because I have children, and yes, two of them seen what he posted ( ages 7 & 9) when their 15 year old babysitter was reading SC and they just happened onto his post. SC is now on "lockout" under code to view in our home because of his bullshit.

mOOn platOOn: TNP, you said somewhere that you doubted this even happened, correct?

TNP: I think Cam made up the whole thing as an excuse for his accusations. I really didn't feel compelled to defend myself even after I found out about them. After a couple of days, Zayda emailed me to alert me of Cam’s charges. I went to the post, astonished at the hoopla and at the number of folks standing against hypocrisy.

On the charge that TNP was posting pictures for anyone to stumble across, silverwhisper wrote:

silverwhisper: .... no, he posted links to the pics that were clearly labeled, cam. why is that any different from other soulcasters posting erotica, which is actually in the blog entry itself, not a link that someone has to take a separate step to look at? because i don't know what you're doing but all i see in the comments are links, not the actual pics.

And Zayda pointed out:

Zayda: BTW, did you realize that it says in the Terms of Use of SC that anyone between the ages of 13 and 17 must review (go over) the terms of Use with their parents and obtain parental consent to view the site. Tell me Cam, since you aren't the parent or guardian of that 15 year old, why did you not block her from viewing SC on your computers? Did she review the TOU with her parents or guardians and get their permission to view SC at home or on your computer? Probably not; in fact, how many 13 to 17 year olds who are here on SC do you think actually even read the Terms of Use before actually signing up and checking that little box that says, yes; I've read the terms of use, before logging in and reading. Probably not many of them. In fact, I can bet that many of the over 17 users on here didn't actually read the Terms of Use before checking that little box and saying they did. But because they checked that box, regardless of whether they actually read the terms of use, means they are bond to abide by the terms of use and any revisions made to it. BTW, there is nothing related to pedophilia in those pictures. Those pictures are of TNP, not of naked children. They are of him and his body, his erection, and various stages of masturbation that he photographed. That does not constitute pedophilia. Posting them to a site where children might be led to viewing them by a teenager who made an irresponsible choice by clicking on the links and showing them to a 7 year old and a 9 year old does not constitute pedophilia either. Perhaps you should ask the question of just what motivated your babysitter to show those pictures to your children?

But CamDaMan20 was personally offended:

CamDaMan20: The Naked Professor posted that filthy SMUT knowing children would view him, in my opinion, he and those others who posted sexually explicit { Photographs/Videos } ....where doing so as many of us exchanged blows and views regarding same. So they too, were informed that children were a part of their targeted readers and fellow members of soul cast. The intent of the post remains as obvious now, at this very moment {he obviously is aware children are looking at him} and, admits same in a comment on my post, and continues to date to allow the post to exist to the detriment of children and his own sickness. Zay: If he did not want children viewing him from the onset, why then is the post existing knowing children are viewing even at this writing?

Zayda, at one point accused by Cam of being TNP’s “hag” wrote:

Zayda: Why wasn't SC blocked prior to this incident with TNP, Cam? You commented in that post by TNP pretty early on. You knew what kinds of pictures he was posting there of his naked self. You wrote erotica yourself and comment on other people's erotica, and adult themed posts from practically the moment you were on SC. So, why did you not block it from the beginning, Cam, since you knew full well the kinds of things that were posted to this site. Or did you not read the Terms of Agreement until it was convenient for you to do so?

Others rallied to the defense of free expression and against false accusation, among the more articulate:

lioneljay: …You're presuming that you know what's in TNP's mind when you can't possibly….To say that someone is a pedophile simply because he posts links to nude photos on a web page is ludicrous…the truth of the matter is that you could have protected them (your children) but you chose not to. But now that you've made a big deal out of it by deflecting the blame to TNP (not unlike people who blame McDonalds for their fat ass) you'll never admit to your own culpability. Cowardly doesn't even begin to describe your actions here.

mom: .... I just want to say that I had no idea about the pics until now. Although I think posting yourself masturbating on an open forum is tacky, SC is uncensored. All of us have a responsibility, and pretty much all of us have said and done things on here that we would hope that any under age person wouldn't see. When we do things on here I don't think we really think that someone underage is going to see them. By calling TNP out, other people have been alerted of those photos and now he will get more views. As I said I didn't know anything about those photos and won't be looking but I am sure others will. Cam, I just want to know, how or why your babysitter was reading TNP anyway? It isn't like it just jumps out at you when you log on.

Even the elusive bard of bad vibes SithBorg dropped by to whap Cam on the noggin:

It’s amusing to see that with a mere act of complete masturbation, TNP has rocked the world of SoulCast complacency. Cam, please note that within another day or two this publicity for TNP will be listed as your most popular post. Aren't the children more likely to see it on top? I know that your only concern is for them.

CamDaMan20: The way you people talk in support of TNP and his predatory type postings, can we members of SC now expect the likes of you posting as bad or worst yet on SC?

…thus revealing that copsunited and CamDaMan20 are one and the same blogger. On another occasion he signed a post by Cam as hottips4U, supposedly a female later rationalized to be his wife. This is what happens when you make the story up as you go along.

Along the way mobil had enough and bellowed decisively:

mobil: For the love of God, there is no Hottips4u, no doodlebug, no soloangel, and on and on and on. Cops creates these characters and if you have one half a brain in your head, it doesn't take long to figure out who he is pretending to be at any given moment. He as a style and flow to his writing. He trys to cover it, like as camdaman, but he's not smart enough to do that for long. Why are people still calling hottips hottips? Here began the descent of copsunited into obscurity as he went to war self-righteously crusading against any and all who insisted that the argument was a first amendment issue.

His surly attitude caused a ruckus when he insulted the integrity of a rape victim (Artemis) who was trying to share her story in a serious way (unlike TNP who it seems is never serious). He invented the ID WombRaider and challenged her aggressively, prompting LadyGamer to write…

LadyGamer: I recently caught the show over in the Artemis thread. She asked a question, got a few serious answers and then got attacked by the sad and pathetic bottomfeeders that are required to exist to make us appreciate that not everyone is like that. I found the irony of someone FALSELY accusing Artemis of being someone else in hiding, while using MULTIPLE extra accounts galling in the extreme. Also, attacking a rape survivor using a handle like WoomRaider is disgusting. That's not clever. That is vile and cruel.

…and began to join with his alter ego CamDaMan20 in personal attacks on many other bloggers, in particular slandering silverwhisper with outright accusations of pedophilia. As cops, he promised to hound the authorities until they were all brought to trial.

Then a Jerry Springeresque battle broke out between cops and mom, further agitating him and causing him to engage incautiously in side battles, including one with the ominous voice of SoulCast itself.

SoulCast: We have no enforced standards at this point, but we are wondering if it's time. Let me start by saying that we have no problems with adult content. What we have a problem with is the harassment. Keep in mind that many of the people behind soulcast have accounts and are active users. We know what goes on around here! We do not want to enforce rules, but we may be forced to take that course of action.

copsunited, ever the diplomatic negotiator of reasonable discourse, replied, “If you chose to pull the plug on my account be my guest. At one time I was a popular bogger (sic) but then the ‘group’ turned vicious.” Now on an avalanching smear–spree, Copscam ploughed through SoulCast getting nastier and nastier within this universe of opposition, and posts like this by Froggie_50 started to appear from a variety of bloggers:

WHY are there Bullies on Soulcast like COPSUNITED that have such hatred for great people like silverwhisper, mom etc...I know we just fuel them by commenting to their blogs, but this guy's a pompus ass the way he slams people, and he was a COP? The din of protest against the multi-identitied CamDaMan20 / copsunited / hottips4U / WombRaider, etcetera, grew until subsequently, copsunited (as an entity) was placed under “arrest” by SoulCast and can post no more. He is the only ID to be removed from SoulCast for a bad attitude and the inability to play with others, establishing an anti-harassment precedent on the site.

To this day posts are appearing by a variety of bloggers discussing the fallout, including some interesting articles by Lt.CmdrWorf1…

“…parents are ultimately responsible for what their children read, hear, or experience. It’s not the job of Soulcast, or anybody who writes here to make that easier for you, except to tell you watch what your children are doing.”

…and by bloc…

“…Unfortunately Cam is being dishonest. I asked him to show me this rampant pedophilia and he linked to a post by TNP. That post had no children and nothing to do with pedophilia. It was a thread of adults sharing explicit pictures of themselves with each other. Let me say that again, it was mild adult content intended for adults. I thought there may have been some confusion on cam's part. I told him that I didn't see anything relating to children on that post and asked him why he used such serious terms (pedophilia) when referring to it. He blocked me and called me a porn advocate! As for the post that started it all, ANATOMY 101 is still there, nearing the 4,000 hit mark and 380+ comments. Even now the post is racking up hundreds of new hits every week and new pictures appear from time to time (it was originally posted on May 1, 2007). It is currently the #1 post on All-Time Featured Posts.
