I know that women go through these exact pains all around the world, every month, but I am thinking about myself because I am currently in the period throes. I feel a bit like small dragons have crawled into my muscles and are having a high old time breathing fire and digging their claws in. I am chobbling paracetamol like smarties and I don't even like pain killers ;)

Isn't it strange how evolution can create such natural marvels, yet still hasn't developed pain-free periods? My boyfriend can't quite get his head round this as I lie on the couch a pale shade of grey and whinge. It only lasts a day or two, but he's shocked every time. 'But that's crap!' he sympathises; 'Every month you know you'll have at least one day of sickening pain!' I'm like, I know. Tell me about it! Why haven't we develped the possibility to unzipper our womb and leave it at home when it's grouchy? Sorry, am sure that's a gross idea for many but I'm hurtiiiing and at work, when all I really want to do is throw up on the keyboard and seek refuge under a duvet ;)

Instead I will make myself tea and read SC posts about favourite poems / books, which is the nearest thing to a duvet I look likely to get ;)

Some discomfort is pretty much universal, but pain is not. Ever discuss it with an OB/GYN?
  • secretlife said on Aug 27, 2007....
    hope you feel better.
i'm with exhibit_c in that you should discuss this with your doctor.  anything that puts you in bed 2 days a month isn't right.  discomfort is one thing- pain another.

Ever since I had my daughter I stopped having period pains. I don't know why that is but I sure don't miss them.

But before that I actually ended up in the hospital twice with really bad pains. To the point that I would pass out. My OB/GYN actually put me on birth control and it helped alot. It made it less painful so I have to agree with exhibit_c and secretlife go see your doctor.

    I hope you feel better.

exhibitc/secretlife - Hmm, might do then. Although I asked once and she said it's natural pain, to prepare for childbirth. I was like, well now they have drugs for that ;) Lol. It doesn't send me to my sick bed but it's pretty crap and it does hurt a lot (unless I have a really low pain threshold!)

Ginger - you lucky devil. Don't hate you, noone would wish pain on someone else ;) Am bit jealous tho... I like your therapy methods too. Have bought chocolate and will search out a movie when I get home ;) Ah... home. Couch! Am like Homer with more hair ;)

leadoffkarma - will suggest having baby to my boyfriend and watch him go a pale shade of grey too, lol :) Glad ur pains are gone!

Thanks for the get well soon comments :) Makes me warm and fuzzy inside! Am new to SC and still getting used to how nice it is to get support and laughs from 'strangers'. It's the best!

If I remember correctly, one explanation is that pain can result if part of the uterus is folded or otherwise constricted. The growing baby straigntens that out, so it doesn't happen after the pregnancy.
  • ladyscarlet said on Aug 27, 2007....
Joy! Even my uterus has issues, lol ;)

aw honey, sorry for your pain!! I agree with the others, talk to your MD and get some relief!! But aside from that, crawl under the duvet and read some funny blogs..maybe the laughter will distract you! best, Mamie

exhibit_c: thats exactly what my doctor said but of course he let also told me I wouldn't notice it until I started having my period again.

ladyscarlet: I don't think pregnancy will solve the issue especially if it means you your boyfriend might die from the shock...lol ;) But the birth control did help some what.

This does not sound good, not at all. Please speak with your gynae or family doctor.

I have endometriosis and one of the primary indicators for it is painful (incapacitating) periods. I'm not suggesting that this could be the cause for your pain but it might be worthwhile your researching it.

I wrote this when I was similarly suffering...

lady- hang in there!  My daughter gets bad cramps, and it lays her out for a few days.  She used to cry cause it hurt so bad.  Try a heating pad, and if that doesn't help, pull your boyfriends hair.  I find that causing pain to someone else is always a great reliever to me cause I find it to be quite funny.

lady- we belong to the same club! I just went through some serious cramps this weekend along with some puking involved. It didn't help that I had a procedure done a few days before that. In high school I was sent home because my menstrual cramps were so bad that I got sick right after lunch. Just remember you are not alone! :(

    Lmao@ mom...I totally agree!
  • ladyscarlet said on Aug 28, 2007....
Ah, thanks guys ;) Another day dawns and it's started ebbing away. Think am a bit high on paracetamol tho!

Alyss - will go ask a doctor and check it out. Hope you're not still suffering!

Mom - lol x million, will have to try it! My boyfriend is already thinking of taking himself out of the running for my birth partner if we ever have kids - I think he's worried it will be like something out of the exorcist, and I can't promise he's wrong ;)

Princessbitch - cute name. I read about that procedure: yow! Hope the pain has gone!

lady- oh my goodness I can tell you that labor is like your cramps but so much worse.  If he does father your children, tell him to hide!!!!!!  I never screamed while in labor but I know some women did.  I was always afraid to make a scene. LOL  You tell him that Linda blair in the exorcist looked like a saint compared to a woman in labor. LOL

Ladyscarlet, I'm sorry to hear that you have to go through this pain every month! I can't imagine the pain - because I rarely have cramps and if I did, it only lasts a few hours and not as painful as you have described. A friend of mine, pretty much have the same cramps as you do - up to a point where she would faint now and then. I have lost contact with her but I hope she doesn't go through that anymore! I hope you will get it checked!!
  • ladyscarlet said on Aug 28, 2007....
mom - lol, I think he will have to hide... he's scared of blood too. Could he be any less useful in a delivery situation?! You'd better hope I go into labour and get to a hospital or he'll be freaking out and I'll have to calm him down, lol. Can't imagine him getting clean towels and a pair of shoelaces to tie the cord, ha ha.

lyssa - it's strange / good how everyone has such different period pain experiences! I guess our uteri are as varied as our breasts, ha ha. Thanks for sympathy :)

Since I am using the patch, I don't need to smoke anymore. This will prevent me from wasting time sitting around outside if I would rather do something else. This will cause silence from me. I just wish that people would stop trying to block what I am...
