What does Love mean?
A group of professional people posed this question to a group of
4 to 8 year-olds, "What does love mean?"
The answers they got were broader and deeper than anyone could have imagined. See what you think :
"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and
paint her toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even when his hands got arthritis too. That's love."
Rebecca- age 8
"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth."
Billy - age 4 (I love this one)
"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving
cologne and they go out and smell each other."
Karl - age 5
"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your
French fries without making them give you any of theirs."
Chrissy - age 6
"Love is what makes you smile when you're tired."
Terri - age 4
"Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK."
Danny - age 7
"Love is when you kiss all the time. Then when you get tired
of kissing, you still want to be together and you talk more.
My Mommy and Daddy are like that. They look gross when they kiss"
Emily - age 8
"Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop
opening presents and listen."
Bobby - age 7 (Wow!)
"If you want to learn to love better, you should start with
a friend who you hate,"
Nikka - age 6
"Love is when you tell a guy you like his shirt, then he wears
it everyday."
Noelle - age 7
"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are
still friends even after they know each other so well."
Tommy - age 6
"Love is when Mommy gives Daddy the best piece of chicken."
Elaine-age 5
"Love is when Mommy sees Daddy smelly and sweaty and still says he is handsomer than Robert Redford."
Chris - age 7
"Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left
him alone all day."
Mary Ann - age 4
"I know my older sister loves me because she gives me all her
old clothes and has to go out and buy new ones."
Lauren - age 4
"When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you." Karen - age 7
"Love is when Mommy sees Daddy on the toilet and she doesn't
think it's gross."
Mark - age 6
"You really shouldn't say 'I love you' unless you mean it. But
if you mean it, you should say it a lot. People forget."
Jessica - age 8
And the final one -- Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked
about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.
The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife.
Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.
When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, "Nothing, I just helped him cry"

I saw this somewhere else once, and I think it's really cool. I love the way kids think. This was a great post. I especially got a laugh over the kid who said love was when her mom caught dad on the toilet and didn't think it was gross! :-P Or the one where people in love go out and smell each other! That's funny. Thanks for sharing it!

Yep My daughter sent it to me they go around Some are new to me Im New back on the internet since feb hadnt been on abot 3 yrs Its nice to be reminded to smile sometimes even the 2nd time around Glad you enjoyed -

I love the very last one. for a child to see an old man crying and feel compassionate enough to go to him and "help" him cry is so precious to me. Almost heart breaking in its innocense. :-) -

I got this in an email once, either way I enjoy reading it over again. I think children know what love is and it is as adults that sometimes we forget to remember what it was like as a child to love and be loved.

Its so sweet how a child saw love in the guy painting his wifes toenails....that for me is love too :-)
wow...thats a mighty deep thinking 4 yr old...your name is safe in their mouth... makes you wonder what has happened in his life dont ya think? I loved that one too.
wow to the bobby one too.... kids really do know more than us dont they? :-)
wise child...if you want to learn to love better..start out with someone you hate... what a nice child, sounds like she had a lot of lessons already :-)
the final one left me with goosebumps...that was beautiful... I think a lot of those kids will make fine adults :-)

destiny ~ just currious can you remeber how you were feeling when you replied to this?? Hows the Not Smoking going? will check that out on your Post .Hang in there? Reason I asked is some of your answers.... like wondering what happen to make them learn this life lesson so early...... I think a lot like you do about a lot of things....this one I was on a complete different out look......My Daughter Angela was That wasn't said by a 4 year old (The safe in your mouth thing) I was in defense of the child And Said Why Not??? She said a Child Doesn't come up with things that deep.. I was "Excuse me young lady" ....."Who Was it that Told me "I Love you Higher than Angels Can Fly"..& "Longer than God Lives" at age 5.......my littlest angel

I would love to see this grow into people who use these same definitions which really equal consciousness to their beliefs about their God.Would we not hold any supreme being to these same acts of love and even greater to those he claims to love? That is my point in all of the teachings that I do and all of the posts. Perhaps we can grow into the idea that bigger must be better for those who claim that they are all powerful have even more responsibility to love more. Peace -
