This ties in somewhat with the post I made about relatives. While getting ready to go to dinner at grandmas my husband and I were put in charge of getting everyone something to drink from the store.  My grandma, who just turned 80 the beginning of this month, requested a Star Bucks Iced Cappuccino. She has been drinking these for years. She was actually the person that turned me on to them. Needless to say my husband didn't know about any of this at the time. We were going down through the names of the people who would be there writing their favorite drink beside their name. When we got to my grandma I said Iced Cap. Jason turned around and looked at me with this shocked look on his face. I said, "What? That’s what she likes to drink!" And his response was priceless? He said, "Old people are like babies. I don't know what she can and can't have. I don't want to give her a drink that’s going to kill her!"

I can already see the headlines... Death by Iced Cap!

Have any of you ever had one of these moments?

One of those old people are like...

Well, anyways,...... I had a moment like your talking about.

I had taken my boys hunting since they could walk to give ya some insight as to hunting and outdoor knowledge he had gained by his 12th birthday.

We had been hunting the south side of a ridge line that ran for about 3 miles before dropping off into land only a goat would enjoy. And, that ground can be tiring even when your moving slow and trying to be as quiet as possible when we jumped three deer out of laurel.  I could have dumped one of the doe's as she turned back up hill directly  facing me, but I was trying to spot the buck that had been with the 2 does.

About the time this young doe snorts and disappears down the hillside, a shot fills the air and a moment later ya can hear something (buck or doe ?) running full tilt thru the laurel and leaving only fleeting moments of a visual as the laurel shielding ability is amazing.

I walked over to where my son had wandered to looking for sign and could plainly see that he had in fact obviously been fatally accurate to his target.  He was excited since it was his first deer showing me how big a rack the buck had by raising his arms over his head wide and spraying his finger to represent points...its funny thinking back on it, but that was just an opener as you will see.

We tracked the buck maybe 60-75 yards and ran up on him with his head laying tilted regally showing it to be a seven point buck.  Nice buck in body size, would dress out to about 160-180 lbs, neck swollen as he was in full rut. (shot thru liver and one lung as the slug exited the rib cage just behind the shoulder).

Well, we took some pictures, then sat about cleaning/dressing the deer out without to much ado.  When we finished, we dragged the carcass about 30 yards into some good sunlight and beautiful ridge line back drop, for a few more pics when my boy says...hey dad, lets lay the gun in the rack and I'll hold each side up from behind and take a picture ok ? Sure no problem, we get ready and once again he says, Dad,

..........we field dressed it too soon.  I asked why ?  his reply....while posing proudly

" how are people going to know this is a buck, we cut his thing off too !"

I dropped the cam laughing ....the damn fool had forgotten he was holding its antlers....lol

So, yea, there has been a moment like urs...life's entertainment comes naturally and un expected as well...lol

    Great post.
