Assume a standard deck of 52 cards (plus jokers if you like ;-)).

What one card are you most like?

(I fear one suit will strongly prevail over all others, but we'll see.) Color me curious!

My answer tomorrow, though you can probably guess.

    Or maybe the shy little 2 of clubs.

    Yes, the 2 of clubs.
  • the_infernal_optimist said on Aug 21, 2007....
    Ah, but Mimi, as the 2 of clubs, you get to lead the way in every game of hearts! :)

    Exactly correct!  Only in my deck of cards the clubs are purple.  :D

    I can't think of the one I'm most like, so I'll tell you the one I'd most like to be.

    Jack of Hearts, The Chivalrous Knight.
  • destinydiva said on Aug 22, 2007....
    what a cool post!!

    I would say queen of hearts but as I couldnt bake tarts it would be totally misleading of me!!!  lol

    so ermmmmmmmm

    jack of hearts!!!  loving and energetic and a bit of a tomboy yet still girly enough for hearts!!!  hows that???

    ooohh I like this, I'll be thinking all day... what other cards am I??

    Its hard actually because I spent a lot of time reading up on playing card divination? I know most of the meanings of each card, so I have to seperate from that and give my own meaning to a certain card....

    another i would go for.....  5 of hearts....  I like hearts and 5 is my fav. number :-)

    jack of spades. the significance of that particular choice can be found here. :>

  • rightwingwizard said on Aug 22, 2007....

    Never much thought about it, but if I must I would choose the king of spades for whatever reason comes to anyone's mind. I understand that in some instances each card holds a particular significance (other that its value during gameplay).   I have never troubled myself to learn however.

  • gingersoul said on Aug 22, 2007....

    Infernal..... my favorite game used to be canasta, a circumvolute, extenuating, intriguing game, that must be played in silence and can last even hours....Canasta is a game born in exotic Urugay and means "basket".

    So my favorite card can only be the Pinella (the Wild card), the black Two of Hearts in particular.

    Dangerous and elusive, the Pinella is the most sought card of all.

    When you have you a Pinella you can rule the game and freeze your opponents moves and steal the well.......what not to like?....lol.....

    sweet_cookie: Why those choices, particularly the last (or do I want to know that one? :-D)?

    beyond: Hey, that's a cool way to look at it. Most of the face cards I've seen are devious-looking or downright disturbing if studied too long.

    destiny: I could've picked your suit a mile away. :) My mom's favorite number is also 5.

    ed: After re-reading that entry, I'm not at all surprised. :)

    rww: Fair enough, although I bet there's more to that choice than meets the eye (even yours).

    Zayda: I'm about halfway through that article (thank you!) and finding it quite fascinating. My initial reaction was "Ewww, not that queen!" but I think I've just played too many rounds of hearts. :-p

    skald: Why diamonds?

    rupert: Ahh, I thought you might say that. :-D I'm pretty fond of the joker sometimes myself.

    ginger: That game always sounds intriguing (and terribly complex) to me, but I've never played. It does sound like the Two of Hearts is a good one to be, given that!

    I'll throw in my answer here. It sounds rather brash, but I'd go with the Ace of Hearts (though I considered the eight in the same suit, since 8 is my favorite number - oooh, I sense another blog post in the offing there...). Not so much because the aces are often the highest cards in a game (far from it, in fact) or because I'd claim any prowess in the realm of hearts :-p but more because that big heart can and does stand alone. (Atypical Infernal, yes? Not today.)

    [re-written because something was bugging me about my own comment :-p]

    Sudden...i used to play endless games when i was a teen ager...odd, uh? ...lol..

    Yet, i loved it ...we were a group of 4 girls simply obsessed with this game...

    When we "graduated" we even got the permission to play with the famous Canasta Ladies..a ferocious, highly competive group of ladies (my mom's friends) that were known to play for hours under the beach umbrella or in the fresh shade of the Sailing Club's main room.... :-)

    There is something hypnotic in that game, dont you think?

    3 of clubs or puppy feet :-) I like the number 3
  • the_infernal_optimist said on Aug 22, 2007....
    Sudden, ginger, and Mamie: If you wouldn't mind a totally inept player, y'all could attempt to teach me and then you'd have your fourth. ;-)

    e_t: I could see either of those being appropriate. :)

    Zayda: Should I expect company then? 'Cause that particular Queen likes to come hang out with me! :-p

    (I think I just suck at the game, but it's a ton of fun!) My problem is that I can't keep track of what's been played, because the colors of the suits, numbers, and letters on the cards (syn-wise) get confusing. Diamonds are yellow for me, but if the 7 hasn't been played, I'm likely to overlook that because seven is yellow as well, for example. Everyone else at the table has one up on me there.

    PT: Care to explain? *high five* Two of us - I guess we'll be in different decks then. ;-)

    Batty: Well, that's two posts answered in one! :) Cool!

    Infernal Optimist asks PT: "Care to explain? *high five* Two of us - I guess we'll be in different decks then. ;-)"

    Explaining:

    The modern deck of playing cards is taken from the Tarot deck.

    The Ace of Hearts is the same as the Ace of Cups in the Tarot and means:

    The Ace of Cups is one of the greatest lucky cards of the Tarot. It shows - as do the other aces - a great opportunity within us: in this case, it can lead us to deepest fulfillment. What this means for an individual depends upon his or her personal attitude towards life. The spectrum of the Ace of Cups extends from joy, thankfulness, and satisfaction to extreme success and the deepest happiness in oneness. The mystery of love in all its forms of expression stands, beyond all doubt, in the foreground: altruism, parental love, sensual-erotic love, self-love, and the love of God. This card can also show other, more everyday forms of happiness, whereby the material side of this concept is more likely to be expressed by the Ace of Pentacles. In any case, we should keep in mind that it deals with a great opportunity that lies either in ourselves or in our plans; it isn't pushy, but rather waits to be discovered and developed.

    The Tarot has additional cards, but the suits are basically the same.

    Clubs = Clubs/Wands/Staffs
    Hearts = Cups
    Diamonds = Pentacles/Coins
    Spades = Swords

    More details on the Tarot/modern playing card meanings:

    The Tarot consist of 78 cards - 22 of the Major Arcana and 56 of the Minor Arcana (four more cards than the modern playing deck). The word "arcana" is derived from the Latin word "akanum" meaning secret. Therefore, the cards of the Major Arcana are those that deal with the "Big Secrets" and those of the Minor Arcana are those that deal with the "Smaller Secrets."

    The Major Arcana cards are recognizable as individual models or archetypes, such as The Fool, The Magician, or The Devil. These cards seem to represent the different stages in life we all experience in our own unique ways. The Minor Arcana cards are divided into four suits much like modern playing cards. However, the suits have different names - the Cups, the Wands, the Swords, and the Pentacles. One other difference is that each suit has an extra court card - the Page.

    Each of the four elements of the Earth is commonly assigned to the four suits of the Minor Arcana:

    Wands represent the element of fire. They stand for action, creativity, and growth. Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius are the astrological signs assigned to the suit of Wands and the element of fire.

    Cups represent the element of water. They stand for feelings, spiritual experiences, and the unconscious. Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces are the astrological signs assigned to the Cups and water.

    Swords represent the element of air. They stand for the mind, knowledge, and the intellect. Libra, Aquarius, and Gemini are the astrological signs assigned to the Swords and the element of air.

    Pentacles represent the element of earth. They stand for the body, physical experiences, and practical skills. Capricorn, Taurus, and Virgo are the astrological signs assigned to the Pentacles and the element of earth.

    The Minor Arcana cards are in no way inferior to the Major Arcana cards, but rather add detail to the Major Arcana. The Major Arcana give information and guidance to an individual’s psychological state of mind and inner life. The Minor Arcana gives details of relationships, creative ventures, and adversities and successes. The Major cards are thought to be more spiritual, and the Minor cards are seen as more earthly, with the Court cards acting as a bridge between them.
