par·ent·ing (pârʹən-tĭng, părʹ-) noun
Usage Problem.
The rearing of a child or children, especially the care, love, and guidance given by a parent. See Usage Note at parent.

I read Camdaman20’s diatribe accusing people of being pedophiles.  I usually don’t comment on things such as this, but after reading I felt compelled to speak about people who claim to be parents, but want everybody else to raise their children.

Now, let me be clear: If you are a child molester, I’m the person you don’t want to catch you.  Hurting children, or people unable to defend themselves is cowardly.  I’m not going to sit here and tell you what I would do if I caught such a person, but I can tell you it would not be pleasant.

Soulcast is a place for free thinkers.  Some of the things that I read here turn me off, but I totally defend the right of people to write them.  I don’t know what Camdaman has against Silverwhisper, whose crime is the same as mine; he will defend the rights of people to write and post what they want.  I’ve, also, had my run-ins with The Naked Prof, whose stuff I find clever and usually well researched.  To call them out and accuse them, or me, of pedophilia light years off the mark.

When I was growing up I had parents, aunts, uncles, and grandparents who were my role models, teachers, and disciplinarians.  I am always at a loss when I hear, or read some parent who wants to make me responsible for their child’s, or children’s development.  Again, this is not to say that I don’t care, or want to see children hurt in any way.  What it does mean is parents are ultimately responsible for what their children read, hear, or experience.  It’s not the job of Soulcast, or anybody who writes here to make that easier for you, except to tell you watch what your children are doing.  Teach them right from wrong, and explain to them why something is wrong.

I have to tell you the parents of the children at Columbine said they didn’t know what their children were doing.  My question was, how could you not?  Peace and Long Life

Here, here. I like CAM, but I think he is just getting some attention with all this,
or something. His accusations are a bit absurd. Of course my first inclination is
to agree with anything negative about silverweenie. Not sure what he said or
what that is all about. Do not care.

The internet, not just SoulCast, like the world in general, is a harsh place for
kids. You would not drop your kid in a bad part of town (like NYC, Chicago, or
Los Angeles), drive away, and hope the people there would do the right thing
and care about you kid's welfare. It just does not work that way.

People have to supervise their kid's TV watching, book/magazine reading, and
internet browsing at all times. It is just that simple. I have had the internet for
years (unfiltered) and my kid never got to look at bad stuff. I was always close
by, checking what was on the screen. It is a tough deal, raising a kid. There
are lots of sharks out there. The trick is to be a good lifeguard and watch
where your kids swim ... every minute of every day, until they can watch out
for the sharks themselves. What age is that? That is another subject.

    Alienated,

I like Silverwhisper, and I like TNP.  I've also been known to read your stuff.  I have no children, but I like to think that if I did I would be the person they would most like to emulate.  I would try to teach them right from wrong, and monitor what they are doing.  I know that I will not be able to watch them at all times, but I'm thinking that If I do my job right those time when I do have to leave them alone they will be able to know what's right, what's wrong, and why.  Peace and Long Life

    Well spoken, Lt.

It takes a village idiot to blame everyone else for not raising your child.

This is a troll. He's making the most outrageous statement on the flimiest of excuses to provoke people so he can laugh about what you did when he prodded you with a stick. He doesn't care about protecting kids, this is how he gets his kicks.

    Ignore him.

hey ALIEN- you said that so well!
    oh and you too Expendable...
    nothing more to add.

    Hey Everyone,

I'm glad to know that I'm not in the minority when it come to child rearing.  I was most disturbed by what I read.  As Bloc said, these are some serious accusations, not to be made lightly.

I have not read TNP for a while, but as I remember he, too, used to write some very controversial stuff; some of it made the hair on my neck stand up, but as I got to read more I came to see where he was coming from.  HI Naked Professor:)  Peace and Long Life.

I had always known of TNP and that he was kind of quirky.  I never really read anything by him.  Since this episode though his ID just pops up all over, I think this has made him more popular and well known.
I don't think he is any more over sexed than the rest of us ;)

cam allowed his children to have unrestricted internet access, they saw something that was a problem, but it's ultimately about his irresponsibility, worf, and his inability to understand that.

Cam got a 15 yr old babysitter that went into his bedroom and snooped on his computer. TNP's pictures were on his computer and then she proceeded to show it to his children.  Now somehow this is our fault and we are all child molesters and kiddie porn advocates.  I see the logic, don't you?

I completely agree Worf.  I don't want my children into porn on the internet either but that's my job to see to.

    Another well turned re-phrase.  :-)

Count me in for a "me, too" on this post.

Very well said, Lt.  I absolutely agree with you.

    Hello Again,

Be careful, in agreeing with me you open yourselves up to being called advocates of pedophilia, along with Ed and  TNP.  Seriously though, it's always  good to read that  common sense  is not completely  dead.

By the way if you're in the neighborhood  I and other members of my school will  be playing the Star Spangled Banner for the Staten Island Yankees game today (8/19/07).  Peace and Long Life

  • fearing said on Aug 19, 2007....
Worf, I did think about just that when I agreed with you.  That stuff is everywhere, not just on SC.  Believing it is my job to keep my children away from it does not mean I'm a pedophile advocate.  Yup, sounds like common sense to me.
  • LtCmdrWorf1 said on Aug 19, 2007....
