When I say I'm a bibliophile, understand that my some of my favorite places in the world are libraries and book stores. It's not just a few favorite authors, I read almost everything - dictionaries, encyclopedias.... It helps when I do research. I love the heft and feel of a book in my hands.

I just don't have room for it all.

But I need a personal library for what I do. Not all of it is available to me on the internet, despite Google's best efforts. And some of the useful pages vanish without warning. So I'm thinking I can make my own library on cd. I can make web pages and pdfs. I wonder how long it would take me to fill up a dvd-r?

IIRC, DVDs have a multiple-GB capacity (4?) so i'd say you should get cracking. :>

LOL - makes me wish I had a dvd burner. Or knew someone who'd let me borrow theirs. So I'm stuck with plain old cd-r. This should be fun.

what about a flash drive? those can be had for less than a burner up to 1 or even 2GB, IIRC.

I've got a flash drive I keep some stuff on, I'll have to think about it.

better battery conservation, i daresay, using a flash drive.

Ex--I'm rather a bibliophile myself. There is something about the weight and the heft of a book in the hand. I have a particular penchant for hardback books over paperbacks. I love the feel of the turn of a page.

I too am running into a space problem.

While I read many a thing digitally, I find that I don't enjoy reading full book-length works that way.

I have an old ebookman that I take everywhere with me but yeah, it's not the same as a real book.

Ex--I was reading this article from the NYTimes about the future of e-books and immediately thought of you.

I'm glad you liked it. I've got another one for you about eBooks being used in a school.
