This was a pivotal year for pop music.  We haven't had a more pivotal year since.  The Beatles brought their energy and intelligence, and a lot of other British bands did too.  Nothing would ever be the same.  This year is a bit like 1066 or 1492, without the arrows in the eyes and the enslavement of the natives.
