The page you were looking for no longer exists

I meant to sit in front of  the television set and knit yesterday evening. But things don’t always go as you plan.

The phone rang. It was an employee at mum’s  home. She said, you mum just had a fall. We don’t think it is anything serious but she complains and the matron wants you to take her to the emergency ward to check.

I will come at once, I said. I drove to mums home and she was asleep by the tele.

Look who is there said Frida the employee to mum and she woke up. I took her to the emergency ward.

It was half past eight when we got there and must have been half past seven when I got the phone call.

A lot of people were waiting in the waiting room. I told the receptionist that mum had, had a fall and I also told her that she lives in a home for Alzheimer’s deceased people. That she is uneasy and can’t stand waiting. We were at once let into another waiting room where people who are next in the row are called up.

We soon got a room and mum was laid on a stretcher . We had to wait half an hour there and for mum it was very long and I can’t say that I was feeling alright because old people can be difficult. Not that she would ever want to be that.

The doctor came and mum went to x ray. We then waited for the results and nothing was broken. All was fine. It was half past 10 when we went out of the emergency ward and it was 11 when I came home.

Skald.....such a frightening thing to happen! I truly admire your patience and all that you do for your mother. Glad nothing was broken!
  • skald said on Aug 14, 2007....
Ginger.  I missed you. Thanks. Sorry if my title was  misleading. I did not mean it to be. I spent my evening there and I was observing things.
Botoni.  Thanks. I must admit I am sometimes at the end of my tether. But one has to be good to ones loved ones. I try.

That would have been a fright for you and your mum. When people are older broken bones can be very serious,so I  am glad for your mum that she broke nothing and that she is OK!

Hi Skal, good to hear it turned out OK at the end, but not the best way to spend your evening. Take care

How long has your Mom had Alzhemiers Skald? I guess I haven't been reading you long enough to realize this. My Mom has Parkinson's and now Alzhemiers is setting in with it.

It's so sad to see your own Mom grow old and feeble, the one who brought us into this world, who took care of our every childhood need. It was great when you told the receptionist about your Mom that they let you right in.

It sounds like your Mom is in good hands with you for her daughter Skald.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Aug 14, 2007....
I'm so glad she is okay.  It's sometimes hard to tell if it's the confusion or if they're having pain with alzhemiers.  It's also no fun to sit in an emergency room.  A lot of hurry up and wait there.

i'm so glad your mom's ok skald and that the hospital got her in and out quickly!

maybe you are watching tv and knitting tonight?

  • skald said on Aug 14, 2007....
Rupert.  Thank you, I am  glad too that she broke nothing.
Travegirl. Thanks. Not the best way to spend an evening but a woman must do what a woman must do. lol.
    Mobil.
My mother was analyzed before my father died 4 years ago. I am sorry to hear about your mother.
I might blog about this sometimes. make a kind of a update.
Uniquely. Yes you are right about the rush  at  the emergency ward. It is often also hard to tell how serious thing are and therefor one has to have them looked at.

hi Skald, that was a scary one! I am sure your mom is bruised pretty good, so it is reassuring to know that nothing was broken in the fall. I hate the stress of the emergency room so I am glad that you and she are okay! Blessings to you! Mamie

I know how to cheer you up. Tell me all about your knitting. I love to knit.
  • skald said on Aug 14, 2007....
Secret.   How could I miss you.Sure was watching and knitting to night.Only the programs were not good and now I've worn my self out knitting. I do that sometimes and then it is time to stop.
    Mamie.
Mom did bruise her self good as you said and has often done that. I don't know why. Once she came  home from Spain and I was shocked when I saw her wearing a crutch and pretty well bruised she slipped on a veranda getting dad a chair. In Berlin with me, she had already Alzheimer she just kind of sank down in the escalator and bruised her self. poor mum. In the last years Ive been taking her a lot thee and it also had to do with her getting frightened because of her Alzheimer's.
Purlple.  Oh that is lovely. you sure did cheer me up. I  am still using very old yarn I found in my parents house. It is very thin but warm and i use it double. Now I have black and I hope to make a sleeve less pullover. Only hope the yarn is enough.
  • purple said on Aug 14, 2007....
If you run out of yarn, I have plenty. Just send me a private message so I don't miss it.

I know it must have been a rough time for you.  I worry about my own mom falling, as she lives alone.  It is nice that you are nearby and can be there for her like that.  Let me also say, glad it is ok now.
  • Jenna said on Aug 14, 2007....
skald...I  am sorry.....this must have been very scary for you.  Please know I am saying a prayer for you and yours.

Skald - I'm sorry that happened but very relieved that nothing was broken.
  • mom said on Aug 15, 2007....
Skald- it is always scary when you get a phone call that a loved one is hurt, cause you never know how bad.  Thank goodness she is ok.  Is she sore today?
  • jadestar said on Aug 15, 2007....
skald, i'm glad your mom is ok. although the late night & stress of it all is a bit taxing for both of you.
I sympathise with the alzheimer's disease - my uncle has it & it can make him really cranky for no apparent reason. Also any stressful event makes his condition worse. hope your mom's ok in that way. Shame, skald - Alzheimer's is a difficult thing to cope with - for you & your mom.
    But praise God she's ok.
Thanx so much for commenting on my post about my mom, skald. i really appreciate it. I knew that there were a lot of people here who cared, yet still, it was a pleasant surprise to see everyone's comments.
  • skald said on Aug 15, 2007....
    Purple.  Sure will.
    Pickersplock. Thanks dear.
    CW.  Thanks.
Wombat.  Thanks and I am sorry that your mum is so far away. It is easier of course to take care of old parents when you live near to them.
    Jenn.  Thank you so much.
Fearing.  That is right and is a relieve in it self.
Mom.  Thanks you dear. Hope you are well.
Jadestar.  I said exactly what I felt and feel on your post. You are a good and supporting daughter and it is so good that you stand by your mother. It was so right of you not to comment on the boyfriend and I am so sorry for your mothers loss.

Glad your mum's ok, it must be hard for you.
  • moonriver said on Aug 15, 2007....
skald -- i hope your mother's ok now. my mother also has alzheimer's, and also recently suffered a fall. she has been wheelchair-bound due to an earlier fall that fractured her hipbone; it took only a few seconds' inattention on the part of her caregiver for the accident to happen. luckily, no fracture this time. at their age and condition, we can only do so much...

  • skald said on Aug 15, 2007....
    Imladris. Thank you very much.
Moon.  I am so sorry to hear this. To fall and get fractured can be very serious for old people. I gather  your mum is being well cared of though. I sincerely hope so.
