  when you say his mother is protective, what does that mean exactly--does she mistrust you and that whole thing, or something else? and how does he respond to her protectiveness?

  I mean protective as in she treats him like he is 12 years old! He has a heart condition and was very ill as a baby etc... When I first met his Mum she smiled and shook my hand and seemed ok however when I went round to the house as my man had arranged she told me he was out and didn't know when he would be back and could she take a message!! I later found out she was meant to have told me where he was so I could have met him there!
  To begin with I really thought I'd met yet another butt-head but the more I've got to know him the more I realize it has been his Mother trying to ruin things all along! She phones him to see where he is and makes him go home or she threatens to come and collect him! I have never experienced this before usually I get on with my bf's Mothers as I consider myself a decent person!..Sigh!

  OK, that isn't protective to me half so much as controlling, and he's gotta come to terms with this way before you can hope for a blessed thing in the way of change, i would think.
