What makes you stand out as being unique?  Is there anything about you that makes you the only person now alive, or who ever lived, who has this quality?

I'll take a stab at it for myself.

1.  I put jelly on tuna sandwiches.  Sometimes on bologna sandwiches too.  I think I am the only person in the world who does that, or close to it.

2.  I made up a baseball game played with dice, and I'm currently playing out a season of it that is right out of the movie about building a baseball field in your backyard and having all the greats of history come to your house and play ball.  "If you build it they will come."  Well, I built it and they came.  My Yankee outfield includes Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, and Mickey Mantle.  I think I'm the only person in the world playing that game, or close to it.

What about you?  What are you doing that nobody else does?

Or this one.

3.  I play 100 or more songs from a particular year, choose my favorites among them, make up cds of those songs, and put them on Soulcast year by year.  My cds range from 1955 to 2002.

Now this next one probably isn't quite as unique.  I'm sure there are thousands who agree with this but it is still pretty rare.

4.  I disbelieve in the reality of what our eyes can see.  I think it is all an illusion and that the only truth is found in Heaven.  That's why when people "die" and have "near death experiences" they didn't really die, because none of this is real.  I know I'm not unique in this, and I know that there are top physicists out there who say very similar things after analyzing their equations, disbelieving in the reality of atoms and quarks and the universe they are trying to analyze.  And the old belief that life is really "but a dream".  But that sounds mysterious, and my belief isn't mysterious at all.  I think our universe was purposely created as a place to learn and experience and grow, a kindergarten, a school of hard knocks, a playground.

Here's another that I'm not so totally unique about, but still a rather rare one.

5.  I think people have the brains of tree frogs.  Lower animals are much smarter than we give them credit for, and humans aren't nearly as smart as we give them credit for.  I think your cat is probably smarter than you.  I don't think it's just mice and dolphins who are smarter than humans, as is reported in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.  I think most creatures are on about the same level.  We just don't understand their language, but that doesn't make us smarter.  Try having a conversation with a human some time.  He's a total moron, isn't he.  I think so.

you know, no7, I KNOW that I am unique, but I can't for some reason, think of a trait that sets me apart as unique. So, I suppose, apart from being unique, I am just pretty ordinary...sigh. But sometimes complex.......confused?....who knows....but try as I might, I can't think of one............

I asked this question in an ESL class that I was teaching recently, and they came up with answers like man, woman, mother, etc.  Hmmmm, guess I should have worked harder to explain what "unique" means.  Anyway, just sitting here, I can't honestly think of anything that makes me unique, except for, as I said just a few minutes ago on one of my own posts, my unique combination of not-so-unique personality traits and quirks.  But you have managed to come up with some pretty unique things about yourself, 7.  I guess I'd have to get that specific, too.. like I'm the only one who calls herself kruuyai on soulcast.  lol  I agree wholeheartedly with your numbers 4 and 5, so I guess those things aren't unique to you.  My cats were definitely smarter than me.  More centered, too.  I think they spent much of their lives in meditation... or at least they were always in the present moment.
  • jadestar said on Aug 13, 2007....
Also, I know I have a pretty wierd sense of humour......but golly, it's so hard to try explain it.....and a wierd imagination, too. But then maybe everyone has those?
ok, here maybe is something......I babble a lot......and make more sense to myself than I do to anyone else, it seems (....for internet graphic purposes I feel I should be putting in a grin here, but not sure how to describe it: ((sly grin / cynical grin / desperate grin / foolish grin.....actually grins are my specialty))
Pleeeeeez forgive me for abusing your blog...I'm going to go & have coffee & see if I can be less freaky when I return (yes I'm doing one of those wierd apologising grins as I leave....)

i am unique not for any single quality or trait i possess, but rather because i possess a set of qualities and traits that in total are unique.

I not sure at this moment which  traits are the Most Unique...I Do believe I have a Most Amazing Soul,  that Only Certain People see, and those that truely see it ... (well "see" isn't the proper word..and neither is "feeling" because "Sight" & "Feelings" can change..... this just "IS"...there are no words it doesn't need words)  Those that  "Get It"... Get Me...sorry didn't mean to sound so complicated or concided (heck I can't even spell any more.. lol) I believe we all have this some just Find It sooner than others in themselves, and once you Find it, it is much easier to see in others.

    1. Ok besides that ....I Like peanut butter, balogna, lettuce, sandwhiches
    2. I just finished a Drink made with = parts unsweetened apple juice & V8 delicious and great antioxident
    3. I prefer a cold raw steak right out of the refrigerator to cooked other wise not huge on meat but do like
    4. I love to drink Stuffed pimento olive juice (it's ok dr. ordered High salt diet)
    5. One of my Ancestors Is "Nicholas Rochester" Of Rochestor NY  no Im not rich.

ok, kru, your name has me puzzled.  i don't even know how to pronounce it.  crew-yay.  is that it?  it is a unique name, that i grant you.  how did you come up with it?

jade, i can't forgive you.  i'm a very unforgiving person.  i don't know the meaning of the word.  i will never forgive you.  unless you send me 50 cents.  (there, and you thought YOU had a weird sense of humor)

silver, i bet there are at least 11 individual things that are unique to only you.

margaret, you put peanut butter and lettuce with balogna?  that's it, we can't be friends anymore.  when i asked for unique traits i did not mean for someone to completely humiliate herself like that.  yucky!
  • wakingharmony said on Aug 13, 2007....
Unique trait for #7  You can always find a laugh and a "smart hiny remark" as well as a No BS friend!
  • kruuyai said on Aug 13, 2007....
7:   lol.. I knew it was only a matter of time before that question was asked again.  Here's a cut and past job from my Eyore post (the one I linked you to the other day, and you apparently didn't read... ha ha)

My name has a history.  "Kruu" means "teacher" in the Thai language, and "yai" means "big."  So, it's big teacher.  I got the name when I was traveling in Thailand, on a pilgrimage of sorts with a bunch of people from a small Thai village and a handful of other "falang" or foreigners.  We falang got it into our heads to teach English to the young novice monks who were traveling with us (even though all of the falang except me were Mexicans... they all knew at least a little English).

Since I was a native speaker and also had experience with language teaching, I was going to be in charge of the classes, and we would use my teaching method.  One of my "assistant teachers" could speak a little Thai, and so she told the head monk about our plan, saying that I was going to be the kruu yai, meaning, in this context, the head teacher.

The monk started laughing hysterically and said, "You just called her the big toilet."  She had slipped and said kuu yai instead of kruu yai.

And I think you have the pronunciation right, if you're pronouncing the yai part as "yahy"  (rather than yay, as in hip-hip-hooray).  The accent is on the second syllable.

Your number 4 trait intrigued me. You think that life is just a dream of some sort? It's kind of like the Matrix or something. Is that what you mean? If so, I think that's really interesting. I can't say that I've never wondered the same thing myself sometimes too.

What's unique about me? I think I'm pretty intuitive and have been known to predict certain things that were going to happen. And sometimes I know things about people that I couldn't possibly know, without having some sort of weird ability. But I haven't explored it much. It's just something that happens to me.

And for something funny and unique, like how you eat jelly on tuna (eww by the way) I like to drink Italian salad dressing. Just out of the bottle. No salad. I have no idea why, but it tastes good!
  • Souljacker said on Aug 13, 2007....

Syrup on steak oh and his mom makes a goolash everyone make different but he puts jelly in it    he will also put jelly on fried eggs and potatoes hmmmm wondering if jelly is a scorpio thing LOL

A great teacher and his student were walking down a path in India when a man came running up to them screaming, "Mad elephant! Mad elephant!".

Both he and the learned teacher lept into the brush on the side of the road but the student stood there, smiling gently as the elephant picked him up and threw him to the other side before charging further down the road.

The great teacher crept out of the bushes and demanded from his mangled pupil why the hell didn't he leap into the bushes with him?

"But master, you said this life was an illusion, so I knew the elephant couldn't hurt me."

"Fool! The elephant shares this illusion!"

Since my accident, I sometimes have a hard time remembering people's names but I'm good with faces. I don't think I'm very unique. There's always someone worse off than yourself.

  • lfbno7 said on Aug 14, 2007....
kruu thank you, that was an interesting story.  my brother was with the peace corps in the philippines and in a town called ouagadougou in africa.  i was never farther north than lower canada, never farther south than the bahamas, never farther east than america's northeast, and never farther west than cali.  one day i'd like to visit denmark or israel.

seanmac you and i both think we're you.

silver you are the only person in the world who keeps whipped cream by the side of the bed.

moon, do you drive?  do you ever Know that a certain car is about to cut in front of you, despite the fact that you have been given no physical evidence of that?  i get that all the time.  there is silent communication between people in separate cars, if you are sensitive to it, even if you are not in the other person's vision.

souljacker, the italians call their red pasta sauce "gravy" but i don't think you're saying that.  you actually pour gravy on pasta that i would pour on meat.  that's pretty unique.

margaret, jelly is soooooo good on tuna. yummy.  grape or strawberry jelly.  not orange marmelade.

    traveler, where have you been?

infernal, do not give yourself a headache.

mobil, you and i don't drink coffee.  i just saw this show on the travel channel, andrew zimmern and his weird foods, and he was drinking coffee where the beans came from an animal's poop.  zimmern is unique in 800 ways.  he loves bugs, to eat.  he'd thrive on those kinds of challenges in survivor or fear factor.

jade, i do like new york, and i am a native new yorker, but i do not want the rap star 50 cent, with or without his yankee cap.  i don't like going to da club.  please send me susanna hoffs of the bangles instead.  thank you.

expendable, the trouble with this illusion is that it sometimes hurts.   pain may be just part of the illusion, but it's real while you're in it.  the whole point of an illusion is that it will be experienced as real.  ouch!  i guess it becomes a matter of semantics and defining terms.  i think our universe is a construct, our real lives and identities are in heaven, we purposely choose to come here to this playground/school for reasons of our own, and then we return home, hopefully better for the experience.  i think the one person who is worst off at any given moment is the one person in the most pain.

  • moonstone said on Aug 14, 2007....
Actually yes, I have experienced exactly what you asked me. One time I saw the image of a car cutting me off on the freeway, about five minutes before it happened. But as soon as I saw the car (that I had seen in my head) I was prepared for it. And sure enough, they swerved into my lane and almost hit me. It was really weird. I've also experienced things like that with mostly stupid things. Like I knew one of my co-workers was going to throw away something important. And a few minutes later I heard her yelling obscenities in the next room and I just called out to her, you threw that away, didn't you? And I was right! I wish I could hone this skill and it could be more useful.
  • lfbno7 said on Aug 14, 2007....
that skill is real.  it happens to me often.  i guess our telepathy isn't completely dead when we live in this world.  i believe that when we're home, telepathy is the means of communication.  and flying at the speed of light is the means of transportation.
  • travelr712 said on Aug 14, 2007....
lfb - i'm not sure i understand what you mean by 'where have i been'. i've been here, but putting some time in a debate about the claims of diestic writing of the bible on muckpar's page.

moonstone - to develop that skill, you need to learn to separate in your mind what you 'want' to be true from what actually 'is' true. pay close attention to the state of your mind when you find you have received information from the future, and try to duplicate that. compare it with times you only thought you were getting information from the future and weren't. your brain will begin to discern between the two by itself, just like it learned how to speak or how to drive. it just takes persistence, awareness and practice.
  • lfbno7 said on Aug 15, 2007....
what i meant was where have you traveled, since your name is traveler.
  • travelr712 said on Aug 15, 2007....
lfb - ahh, i see. well, i've been to every state in this country except iowa, many of them more than 10 times. i've been to germany, japan, taiwan, canada, and mexico. i chose this name in 1992 when i first signed up with AOL, because at that time my job required 50% travel, and sometimes more.
  • moonstone said on Aug 15, 2007....
lfbno7, I have heard of that theory too. I read a book about past lives and souls and how we can communicate without words when we're in our truest state. It's fascinating! And traveler, I would love to be able to develop this skill. If I could control it, that would be pretty amazing. Right now, it just happens without warning, but I do seem to be able to discern what is a true warning, and what is just a panicked imagining. It does take practice to perfect it though. I wish I had the time and knowledge to do such a thing.
