I have to decide by this evening whether I'll be leaving for Cape Town on the 19th or 26th August. I must decide soon because I still have not booked the plane ticket and also hotel room. LOL - pretty last minute, hey?! So much of being a perfectionist! It's actually a last minute thing because I just found out that, Malaysia Airlines does not have any flights on those dates and I checked with SIA, they have on both dates and it's much cheaper too! So, I might as well take up the offer right? Who knows how much it'll cost next month or so!!

I'll be staying at this guest house which is sooo cute! It's called Jabulani Guest House and it's written on the website that guests will be greeted by Lady, the resident canine partner! How cute!

Pretty excited about the trip as it is my first time to Cape Town and also the fact that I haven't been on a plane ride for a long time. I hope everything will go as planned!!!

Work is pretty hectic lately. We have started with intensive courses for students that are sitting for their major examination and of course there are quotas to be filled and such. Kinda being pressured by the upper management. Good news is that we have a lot of students signing up for the courses and by end month, hopefully we'll reach our target.

My house is looking like a house now. Shifted all the unwanted things into the storage while waiting for all the things to be picked up. I haven't started decorating my room. The only thing  I have done to my room is I painted it gray. A very nice shade of gray - the feature wall. Bought new curtains (which I haven't had the time to put up). I'm thinking of getting blinds instead. The Bali type of blinds - that should be nice. So if that is what I am getting, I guess I will just ditch the idea of turning my room into an Arabian Night theme. I don't think Bali blinds would go with Arabian Night... hehe.

So what is (has) everyone (been) up to?

Quite familiar with Polarheart - will check her out.. thanks, Silverwhisper - you're always helpful!!

Hi Lyssa, I wrote this in my PM in to you as well, but thought it only right to visit your blog as well:

Thanks for making contact, I am well and very pleased to hear that you are going to Cape Town :-) I am very jealous about the whale-watching as that's been a dream of mine for ages!

Sorry that I have not made your acquaintance before now, I have had limited time on SC since I started working full time about 4 weeks ago. We moved from South Africa to the UK almost 4 years ago. My husband and I lived in land in Pretoria which is close to Johannesburg, but we know Cape Town a little.

There will be LOADS for you to do and bring back home for your friends. Of course I highly recommend going up Table Mountain in the cable cars - - - stunning view from up there, an absolute must!

I can also recommend the Aquarium in Cape Town. . .I dont remember what it is called, but it is absolutely great!

There is a beach close to Simons Town called Boulders Beach. You need to pay to go in if I remember (not much) but the beach is populated with penquins and you can swim with them although the water is freezing! The beach is called Boulders because there are huge boulders on the beach.

Another great place to go is Lands End. It is at the very tip of the Cape where the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet. There are also baboons there that roam freely amoung the cars. . .just be careful. . .they aren't cute little monkeys!

I would say curios with the colourful South African flag on, Table Mountain etc are a must. You will not be at a loss for places to buy from and there are loads of flea markets as well. I hope you have a wonderful time in SA.

All I can say is: Be alert. Just keep your wits about you, just like any tourist should.

    Speak soon, Polar

Hi Polarheart! Thank you so much for your reply! Lol - I hope I will be there in time to watch the whales! I have heard of the Table Mountain, of course and Boulders Beach but not the aquarium which i must be thankful that you mentioned it as I love fishes and such!

Yikes! Baboons roaming around among the cars? Scary thought and I shall give that a pass!

Well, thanks again and I will definitely blog about my trip!!

    you're very welcome!

btw, LS is LoveShack - where there is a lot of forums for ppl to put in their two cents and well, flamethrow one another. It's really ugly sometimes esp between Betrayed Spouses and Other Man/Other Woman...
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 14, 2007....
oo...i can easily see the flamewar potential there being really high! :D

  • lyssa said on Aug 14, 2007....
LOL - yes, true! Also, some of them are real sour grapes! I guess some are very bitter after a divorce and such but I'm not the one to ignite any sort of flamewar... usually done by others....

It's funny because my forum 'Other Man/Other Woman' is of course for those who are having an affair with Married Man/Woman or ppl going through a divorce etc... and that forum is meant for us to get advices or some sort of support, you know and the whole place ended up being taken over by the BS! I mean, come on.... they have their own forum which is the 'Infidelity' so... stay there!!! We don't go bug them over there... well, not me at least!

    Sorry - kinda ranting!

So sool that you're going to Cape Town. I'm ALSO South African (ahem, ed).....aaanyway. I love Cape Town. The whole Cape province in fact - it's very different, in many ways, to the rest of South Africa.
It's your first trip to Cape Town? Does this also mean it is your first trip to South Africa?
Polar's right, Table Mountain is a must. Oh, and apparently, you haven't actually been to cape Town if you haven't swam in the Atlantic ocean...brrrrrrrr.....
I arrived on the beach one very hot day & asked someone why is no one swimming. He just laughed at me & said "you go try". Well, let me tell you it makes the most unlikely places ache with pain. But the good part is that it makes your skin tingle...
Although, it might be a bit cold weather wise to swim (the ocean apparently is always cold - not like the warm Indian Ocean of natal that I'm used to)
Also: please pleeeeez visit the waterfront. Just walk along the quays etc. The are puppeteers & gumboot danscers & mimes & people statues.....I love it. Oh & you can watch the antics of the seals too.
I need to give you some safety tips maybe.....
  • jadestar said on Aug 15, 2007....
crime is a factor here, unfortunately...
don't leave bag, cel phone etc on the seat of the car or on the floor in front because of 'smash & grabs'. Keep locked in boot or really well hidden. One tip is to keep your window slightly open..this apparently makes it harder to smash the glass. This kind of stuff happens a lot in Durban & Jo'burg at busy intersections...but honestly I don't know the stats of Cape Town.
If I drive at night I drive really slowly approaching a red robot so that by the time I reach it, it changes green & I don't have to come to a complete stop.
Also if I have to stop at an intersection, I keep quite a gap between me & the car in front, in case I need space to manoeuvre. Also be aware of those around you, too close or hanging around.

But other than that South Africa IS a friendly place, I SWEAR it is....

sorry, hope I'm not scaring you off..

Hi Jadestar!!! Wow - thank you sooo much for your tips!

Oh no, Silverwhisper forgot to mention you, Jadestar! Yes this is my first time visiting Cape Town. I'll be visiting my bf as well. *smile*. My brother and SIL have been there several times and they just can't shut their mouth about CT!! I have heard that crime is a factor over there in CT.

Lol - I would love to swim in the ocean, seriously no matter how cold it is - just for experience sakes! - but with my health condition, I don't think I should! I like the part about baboons roaming amongst the cars although it is pretty scary!

I will be staying in Durbanville, CT. Is that far from the Waterfront? I would really like to go whale-watching and again, I don't know if it's way too far from where I am staying. I'll be staying at this guest house called Jabulani Guest House and it is sooo cute! Gosh, I should really print out what Polarheart and you have written. It'd be a great help for me as I don't think I'd be able (or even have time) to check on emails/SC.

The are puppeteers & gumboot danscers & mimes & people statues..... - this sounds wonderful!

I will be careful, thanks. I won't be driving when I am there but I should be careful nonetheless if I ever go anywhere by taxi cab.

Oh no, you're not scaring me off! You actually made me more excited about my trip. Thank you - again - for the info. I really appreciate it!

I know its not even thanksgiving yet. But I wanna remind everyone to begin thinking about there New Years resolutions....
Accessorizing your house, whether or not you are upgrading or merely starting, is fun to do. This is where you can put your creativeness and imagination to some use....
Outside deck lighting will give your place a totally new level of personality which is what each home all around the globe needs....
A new Minka outdoor hanging light would be a perfect addition to your terrace, not to mention a practical furnishing which will let you use the outside more than you probably did before....
What makes outdoor home lighting a very attractive prospect for lots of home owners in the suburbs? It is more than just the general appeal of having agreat looking residential facade....
