I attended my first Catholic funeral today and was yet again faced with the communion issue.  As one who isn't baptized, I'm not allowed to receive communion, and out of respect for the church, I would never "just go get it anyway" as some people I know would.  Regardless, I never quite know what to do when communion time rolls around.  As a non-believer, I also don't want to receive a blessing, both out of respect, and because of my own "keep your jesus off my..." view.  Though apparently you're not supposed to be able to receive communion if you haven't been to confession, either.  I wonder what the punishment for unworthily receiving communion is... anyway, aside from the awkward communion, and all the praise the lord cues, it was a beautiful service...may her soul find peace.

When I came home this evening, I was feeling as though I needed a bit of comfort food.  As usual, I had very little around to eat, but I found a package of oreos that I had somehow received through work.  And, well, they were amazing.  I forgot how tasty oreos actually are.  I still don't like the creme, though.

It's true, I didn't know her well, but she was a great person who seemed to brighten the life of anyone she came in contact with--to put it into perspective, her funeral was standing room only.

And yeah, I thought it was strange as well.

i like the way you wrote "keep your jesus off my ...."

i don't believe anything that anyone else believes, if i can help it.  no jesus, no moses, no jehovah, no adam, no steve, nothin.  no evolution either.  i don't believe that lower life forms evolved into higher life forms.  ha!  let them put that in their pipe and smoke it.

I'm not sure of the protocol at an RC church, but any funeral could have people of other faiths (jews, muslims) who would naturally avoid communion. You ought to be able to keep your seat.

silverwhisper: The RC, high Anglican and maybe some other churches believe that communion is always appropriate.

As for Oreos, I think the cookie part has very little taste and certainly doesn't taste like chocolate.
