The signs are all around me that I should revisit tarot once again. I need to see what deck I want to study though. It's been awhile.

Decision time. I think I'm going to go with the Deva Tarot by Herta Drnec and Roberta Lanphere.  This deck has five suits instead of four. The fifth suit is called Triax and represents spirit. Thus it is more in keeping with the pentacle, which is the four elements plus spirit. The deck has 93 cards.

Celtic Cross Spread Part 2

Bottom card: Queen Triax
Next one up: Priestess
Next one up: Moon
Top: Knight Triax
Here is the first spread with this deck that I've done in years. At since it's already 1 AM I'm going to sleep on it. Sometimes it is best that way.

Keep in mind this reading was for myself. So I am the querant.

The cards were shuffled, cut and then laid out. Not surprisingly, the significator (querant) card was the Queen of Discs, a card frequently chosen to represent a Capricorn woman over 30.

Crossing this is the 5 of swords. This card is said to protect the querant, and swords not only represent physical protection, but also intellectual protection. In other words, surviving by your wit and skill.

The foundation card is the star. The first major arcana card in this reading. The booklet that comes with this deck says 'Take sustenance from the universe, from a higher source than yourself. You need it, and it is there for you: all you have to do is accept it.

That is a comforting thought and worth meditating on in and of itself.

The past card, 3 of discs, shows I've mastered skills that will now hold me in good stead in my career.

Above in the present position is the 6 of discs. That makes three disc cards in the reading so far (pentacles)(Earth). In short, I'm making good use of the magic at my disposal.

In the future position is another major card, which is Justice. A reminder to live to a higher standard and to always strive to be my best and live by the highest ideals.

That covers all the cards in the cross part of the reading. Now we move to the wand  section.

The base card here is Queen Triax or spirit queen. This is the benefactor card and has to do with generosity. Point of fact I did give some money away yesterday. And I've been studying generosity. This card is in the karma position.

The next card above is environment. Not surpisingly, it is the Priestess card, which is often in the readings I do for myself. Even more interesting is right above her is the moon card, showing a period of great psychic awareness for me, not surprising either as we just had the full moon. I get goose bumps just thinking about it. Four major arcana cards in this reading, again not unusual for me.

The outcome card is the Knight Triax. It's another issue I've been working on. In short, stop being a hermit and be open to the creative ideas of others, not just my own.

Hopefully you'll drop back by and  see what I've added to the post above.

According to the booklet that comes with the deck, "The Devae, or Deva in the plural, is a form of life other than human and is not perceived by the physical eyes. Mankind has known of the Deva since the dawn of time, but under names which changed as cultures and philosophies rose and fell. As the ages have passed, they have been called angels, demons, gods and genii. The Deva (pronounced Day-vah) tarot deck recognizes and displays the existence and activities of this species of life and combines it with other, more commonly known forms of knowledge."

This deck was printed in Austria and I have no idea if it is still in print.

I'm pretty comfortable with the Celtic Cross layout, but I'm now learning this Astrological Layout which is much more telling, but much more complicated and harder to use until you learn all the houses and positions:

I've seen spreads that use every card in the deck! The whole topic of spreads is a book in itself!

i have used the Deva Tarot Deck (By Herta Drnec & Roberta Lanphere; Tarot Deck - 93 Cards; Published by Piatnik ) for 21 years. I have found that the extra suit and the not-quite-traditional approach to be a great tool in tarot readings as life is so very complex these days. I think it's valuable to be able to tune in to these subtleties and complexities.
I cut my deck round and prefer using the cards that way. I know it adds to the uncertainty factor because most decks have traditionally been rectangular with "upright' and "upside down" positions and cutting it round does away with that. Many folks may be hesitant to attempt to move into that uncertainty and use it.
But, as each card was designed to have a different nuance with each possible direction around the entire circle of each card, it dramatically expands the possibilties in a reading.
Using the deck, I've done all sorts of readings from personal divinatory/spiritual seeking to reading at psychic fairs and charitable events. For me it seems to easily handle questions on as diverse areas of life as the usual questions about a client's love life, job/career, and health, to spiritual growth, path, meditation, and deeply personal, searching questions.
