I have something kind of weird and personal to ask here.......but first, a story as to why on earth I'd want to know this!

I was speaking to someone at work today, and we were talking about showering. I cannot remember why or how we got to talking........I think it was about how long to keep conditioner in our hair. LOL

Anyways this was part of our convo:

me: I usually shave my legs while the conditioner is soaking in.....

her: yeah....but you know when you condition your muff how you have to keep the water off it?

me: ???? What?

her: you know, your muff.....

me: you condition your pubic hair??

her: doesn't everyone?

Ok so this is my question. Does everyone??? Some of us don't have much (or any.....) but for those who do, do you shampoo and condition it? Even guys could answer this, I guess. But if a guy were to do that, does that mean he would condition his chest hair too??? Or his legs??

I have NEVER heard of such a thing.......so who's the weird one? Her or me? Hope this question is not too weird to get answers! LOL

lol.....is there a special shampoo and conditioner out there for that? like: gee you crotch smells terrific!
  • Imladris said on Aug 06, 2007....
No, i have never conditioned mine! Maybe i'm not normal either. Billy Connolley, the comic talked about that once, that somehow it always looked ok with just soap and water, and how come the hair on our heads needs so much attention lol.
  • travelr712 said on Aug 06, 2007....
i think when my mother first heard of someone doing that she called them 'bohemian' :-) i did do it once, when i was a teenager, just to see what it was like. i don't think anyone cares if i'm 'soft and managable' down there. in fact, i think those that have voted would rather i were 'hard and wicked' :-P
  • nursecutie said on Aug 06, 2007....

D6fer, LOL! That's funny......maybe you should market that?

Imladris, so at least it's not just me that thought this was weird! Soap and water seems to do the trick down there for me too......LOL

travelr, LOL, hard and wicked! Yes, that sounds more manly at least......If you would want the 'hair' to be hard, try hair gel! ;)

There is specific hair dye for it.... my sisters best friend owns a hair salon....we ordered it as a bachelorette gift....bright pink!

as to the other question, yes....shampoo and conditioner.... aren't you supposed to? LOL
  • travelr712 said on Aug 06, 2007....
well, i did kinda segway there, it wasn't exactly the 'hair' i was talking about... :-P
  • MissJ said on Aug 06, 2007....
that's really bizarre. I've never heard of shampooing and conditioning your pubic hair...maybe it's an American thing? :P I am all for keeping it clean..but water and soap should work fine. Also..if you have to condition it to keep it manageable..perhaps you should look into waxing?

I don't have pubic hair at the moment, but when I did I never used conditioner on it.  Just soap and water for me.

I've heard of people using conditioner to soften the hair before shaving.
  • blastfromthepast said on Aug 06, 2007....
Oh, Bot, you're a riot, lol!  I do up a nice French braid.  How about you?
Trav:  Call me 'Bohemian' if you must.  A little conditioning never hurt.
Secret:  I tried the clean shaven route.  It looked hideous.  Nasty, in fact.  I guess I'm too dark, if you know what I mean.
  • gingersoul said on Aug 06, 2007....

Nurse.....this makes me wonder....how can you NOT shampoo and condition them?

I mean, its all there...happily being splashed and cleaned....lol....

And when i shave or wax them still i keep the skin moisturized....

I've done it on occassion to make the hairs softer before I get on to my Brazilian cut. That way nothing gets tangled and the proper hair gets cut. Weird huh? Haven't done it in a couple of years though. I just went back to mohawking my pubs this year.
  • travelr712 said on Aug 07, 2007....

  • evil_twin said on Aug 07, 2007....
I gotta say babe, I've never heard of anyone doing that either! Of course, I never actually asked a girl that question before...but of the girls I knew intimately enough to witness them showering, no one ever did that. And I certainly don't!

lol!  I personally do not have any a lot of the time, when I do something like a design....I do not condition it...never thought of it....but it never stays for a long time, I'll shave it off, and I'd never let it get really long....so I'm pretty sure I'm safe from having split ends down under but....you made me wonder so I asked one of my girlfriends and she says that she does!!  She even buys a special conditioner...she says it makes it silky....who knew?
  • uniquely-ironic said on Aug 07, 2007....
Nope, never heard of anyone conditioning before now, though I have heard of shampooing it.  *sigh* now I have more things to do when getting ready for a big night out.  I cringe at the thought of a hot oil treatment, though.
  • evil_twin said on Aug 07, 2007....

OMG! Who would have thought of a topic like this one... Anyway, please be allerted! You should NOT use any chemicals down there, not even soap, but only feminin wash designed for this purpose. Not everyone is as sensitive as others, and our mothers had nothing to use but good old soap, but that doesn't mean it is the best thing to do. These products by the way are designed in a way, that your hair as well as your intim parts are well taken care of.

No there is no need for shampoo, conditioning or any other chemicals there. However, if you are not extremely sensitive it doesn't hurt, it might be even fun to take your time with your thing.

I personally think that keeping it groomed is THE WAY to be. It doesn't matter if it is trimmed or bold, as long as it is nicely taken care of. It goes for men too by the way. I know I like my man to be groomed all over his body, because it is more estatical, and well, easier to handle, if you know what I mean...

Me? I have no hair anywhere but on the top of my head. I hate hair. I don't wanna deal with it, don't wanna see it, don't wanna have it. But that's just me.

  • PassionTraveler said on Aug 07, 2007....
Okay, my ... ahem... down-there hair goes through many changes in a given year, month or week for that matter. LOL.

I've let it go wild (no men around), I've trimmed it like a lawn, done landscaping designs, have dyed it to match the up-there hair, and I've gone sans fur altogether. And yes, when i know there is some pending "special occasion", I've used conditioner, but not with any regularity.

Currently at the behest of my FWB, I go sans fur, but it's not my preference. Hair in the groin region has a purpose, just as hair on every other part of our body. The groin area keeps air circulating properly so as not to created too much chafing and sweating.

Every time I go sans fur, the result is the same, nothing to insulate and circulate the air and ultimately, it's quite uncomfortable.

The only difference from caveman & cavewoman days to present is the advent of deodorant products and better fabrics to wick away uncomfortable moisture. Hence the freedom to now shave one's armpits and legs, and even the groin area, but who wants to put deo on their groin? Hair on the head and face serves to protect sensitive areas from sun, wind and temperature exposure and unnecessary moisture loss.

And frankly, why has being bald down there become so desirable among men? I would think it makes me look less of a woman and more of a child, and that's just not a pleasant place to go in my head. But I guess the utilitarian side to it is ... less interference during sexual encounters.

If he didn't request it, I wouldn't do it. And if it gets more serious and more frequent than occasionally, we're gonna have a talk about compromise! LOL
  • evil_twin said on Aug 07, 2007....
PT, you bring up a point about why men desire woman to be bald down there. My own personal preference is for a woman to have some hair. I think it's sexy. But for the purposes of certain activities, it looks better and feels better, when most of the hair is gone and out of the way. I'm fond of the 'landing strip' look myself.... :-P

I think it's just kinda trendy right now for women (and men) to shave or wax their pubic area.  Porn probably has something to do with it.

I shave for me, not my husband, and it was weird when I first started doing it.  I used to think that not having pubic hair would make me look like a child, but after spending almost 10 years diapering and bathing female children, I know there's no mistaking my genitalia for those of a child, hair or no hair.
  • ZsuzsiO said on Aug 07, 2007....

wow, we sure did open a whole diferent subject here, didn't we?

I must say, I don't shave for the men. I do it because it feels cleaner and I can put on anything without haveing have to hide the hair. How did it start? I started to trim, and each time I felt it was still too much there. Than I saw other girls taking it all off, and I remember being happy about that - it was soooooo many years ago (10-12?) that I don't even remember what it looks like with it's natural cover.... lol.

Oh, and about sweating : I cannot put my underwear on without those panty liners that "keep me feel safe and dry". And the good part about them is that they come scented too, so the guy I'm dating actually "likes the way I smell there". See, things do work out after all..... =]

It took me awhile to read it all........but it seems that MOST people do not do this. But many more of you do than I thought! That's interesting to me........

I never have used shampoo or conditioner down there. I just use soap. But not special soap like someone suggested........just regular stuff and I have been fine. At this point, I don't have enough hair to worry about conditioning it! LOL

MissJ, you made me laugh when you said if it needed conditoner to be managed, you should consider waxing! LOL

Botoni, you are hilarious as always!

And everyone else, I want to thank you for sharing too!! :)

As for what men and women prefer about hair vs. no hair........I like the way it feels and looks to have very little hair down there. It seems cleaner and I like being smooth. I do it for me and no one else!! But most men like it that way........Right, Kyle? ;)

    Thanks everyone!!

'Landing Strip'?  What, and I suppose Natalie sports landing lights for your convenience, too, lol?
  • ZsuzsiO said on Aug 09, 2007....

Hehehehe... It's just getting better and better! To Lucky13 - I LOVE my man to be "well taken care of" even down there! It doesn't matter if it's  nicely trimmed or bold, as long as I feel that he cares about appearnace. It's important to me, I might be shallow =]. I've had a boyfriend who heven figured out how to put shades in it, some times it was devided to squares, or little stars - can you imagine the time he invested in that? I loved it. I don't know men who condition their chest hair, but from now on I'll make a point about that too. Good idea!

The list of things to do just never ends.......

  • evil_twin said on Aug 09, 2007....
Blast, well, normally the landing lights are optional. But the glow in the dark condom experience did light things up for me! :-P

I am soooo sorry, and please do not be offended, but It's driving me crazy. (Typos are excusable, but these are just plain wrong uses of the word). There is a spell-check feature on SoulCast. But some words, below might not get caught in the spell-checker cross-hairs:
    • PUBS=place for all to go enjoy a beer and a laugh.
    • PUBES=slang for pubic hairs, and certainly something I don't want in my drink at the corner PUB.
    • BOLD=I'm BOLD if I think, "gee, I want to shave my PUBES off. I'm BOLD if I parachute out of an airplane. I'm BOLD if I wear lime green and hot fuschia together.
    • BALD=no hair. I'm BALD after I shave my pubic hairs (PUBES) down there, which is something I might do if I'm planning to pick up a cute guy at the local PUB. ;)
    • SEGUE=to make a transition from one thing to another smoothly and without interruption: This conversation has SEGUED from pubic grooming to a language usage lesson.
    • SEGWAY=a trademarked brand name for a two-wheeled balancing personal mobility device. I rode my SEGWAY through the train station.
Chalk it up to my years as an editor. You can take the typo out of the copy, but you can't keep copying the typo if you want me to be quiet! :P
