I looked at another place this weekend.  There were actually two units in the same building.  Both were smaller than the first place that I hope to get.  They're also in a less desireable neighborhood.  Not bad, just really close to the freeway and bordering an industrial area.  The positive is that they're both cheaper and very close to my gym.

The first is absolutely not an option.  It's entrance is in what I can only describe as an alley between the two buildings.  It's small (really small) and doesn't have a lot of natural light.  It's the cheaper of the two, but I don't see it happening.  The other one is bigger, at the end of a hallway on the second floor.  The wall angles are all weird, but I'm okay with that.  It has wonderful light, even though the view is pretty dismal.

I will probably put an application in for it, though I'd sure like to know I am going to get the other place before I put in for this place.  Most places run a credit report, and the more you run, the worse your credit score gets.

To cheer myself up after looking at these places I took my daughter to the local farmer's market and we bought veggies, honey, kettle corn and steered clear of the bakery booths with yummy pastries. (until after my run when I will decend on them like a plague)

Unique.....If the first apartment falls through I d opt for the one with lots of light even though it has a dismal view. Plenty of light can be a major factore in keeping your spirits up. I really hope the credit check thing works out for you. Soemtimes the scores arent as bad as one might think.

Bot - That's what I was thinking.  I'm going to put the application in, but I'm going to string them along if they offer me the place until I hear from the first place.  I love natural sunlight.

I'm not sure what is entirely correct on credit scores but I was always under the impression that the more you ran your credit the worse it looked but I have just recently financed several things and everyone who ran my credit told me that is just a myth.  That running your credit whether you are accepted or denied does not affect your score at all.  Now these were people who work with loans and banks so I'm inclined to believe them but I'm not sure who to ask for a "for sure" answer?  They said that the only thing that affects the score is unpaid/late paid bills that are reported and judgments against you.  If you are approved the amount that they can approve you for depends on how much you have outstanding in loans etc...  Again, I don't know for sure, I wish I did though!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Aug 06, 2007....
tizzy - while that is correct as well, when you have your credit run a bunch of times it looks as if you're anticipating a large purchase (etc. ) which also affects your debt ratio.  Hopefully I won't have to have it run a lot, and will in fact get a copy of which ever place runs it first so that I can provide copies for anyone else who may need it while I'm looking for a place.

I  hope you find something you like and the credit score comes out good for you. Good luck.

SW - kettle corn can cure a multitude of woes.

skald - I hope I do to, or at least something I can afford.

I just got back from lunch, and turning in the application, and I should know about this place tomorrow.  I'm already annoyed with the manager, since she had me walking 3-4 blocks because of poor directions, but I guess there's nothing I can do about that.

ah ha, that makes perfect sense!   I really hate trying to figure out all the "rules" in the money game!!  I think most of them are un-real and un-fair!  It makes me dizzy!!  I'll keep my fingers crossed that everything turns out better than perfect for you!!
  • uniquely-ironic said on Aug 06, 2007....
tizzy - I'm with you on not being thrilled with the rules.  I'm not much for rules to start with, and this just makes it less fun. :(

ET - Thanks.  I know it's probably pretty comparable down there.  Hope I run into something that just clicks like you and Natalie did.

oh, good luck! Did the apt that you really want actually say when they would tell you? It is not even me, and the suspense is hard to take!! Keep on smiling!!
  • secretlife said on Aug 06, 2007....
so when do you hear back from the place you really like?
can you call them to find out at a certain point?
  • uniquely-ironic said on Aug 06, 2007....
Mamie - the one I really want said they'd let me know tuesday (tomorrow).  I'm debating whether or not to call in the morning or just wait until afternoon.  I'm trying to not get my heart too set on this place, but it's so cute.

SL - I've already been pretty pushy about seeing the place before they cleaned it up, etc.  I don't want them to think I'm always this pushy.  I'm going to wait until tomorrow, but then I'll be bugging them again.

    Unique...crossing my fingers for you.

And i am glad you and your daughter had a lovely time together at the market....I am with you...i need to live in a place that is full of light, maybe small but with a lot of light.

Mine is like this: actually, it has even too much light in this scorching summer Texan days!...:-)

UI, wishing you luck. `You need a place with light definately. Much cheerier and better than living in a crackerbox. I love windows. They make the room to me.

I am hoping you get the apartment you want.  I just went through this about 6 months ago.  I opted for a smaller apartment with lots of light and I am glad I did.  The jacuzzi tub in the bathroom didn't hurt matters either - you can totally tell my priorities, LOL.  I have a kitchen the size of a closet, but you can have a party in my bathtub!  Hey - you can always dine out.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Aug 07, 2007....

ginger - having natural light is good for the soul.

sudden - or at the very least a crackerbox with good light ;)

Artemis - when it's just one person the kitchen definately takes second place.  No fun cooking for one.

Unique : I found another common thing between us. That is we are shifting this november. Me and mom.

It took us more than a year to find this so I know the search is draining. Ours is on the third floor, quite small but I'm happy. There is just one balcony and that too the view is really depressing. But there is enough light and its airy too. So plenty of similiarities here and I suggest you settle for this one unless you get a better deal.

I want to make this place really well done with a lot of personal touch even if it is really quite small. Say we will have fun exchanging ideas and doing up the house. Hope that makes you cheer up a little ;)

  • uniquely-ironic said on Aug 07, 2007....
Desert - I guess we do have a few things in common.  I am looking forward to dressing up my new place.  Due to my pathetic budget, it will be a lot of thrift stores and "do-it-yourself" stuff.
  • kruuyai said on Aug 07, 2007....
The place with the odd angles sounds intriguing.  I like homes with interesting shapes.  Does it have a closet?  I'd give my left __ for a closet.  Oh well, the clothes rack will have to do.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Aug 07, 2007....
Kruuyai - The place with the odd angles has a pretty large closet between the kitchen and the bath.  It also has a fair size closet/storage unit in the living area.  I like odd angles too, so if this is the place I end up I will capitalize on the unique layout.

uniquely.   Hope the apartment hunting is going well.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Aug 07, 2007....
Skald - Today I should know whether either of the places has accepted my application.  My boss has already had a call from one.  Hopefully the larger apartment.
  • DesertMermaid said on Aug 08, 2007....

Unique, I'm on a tighter budget too so dont worry ... We'll figure it out for sure!

And tell you what, these personal do it yourself stuff are far more interesting and creative than ready made ones. Hoping to hear some good news :)
