From the first post, you know that I am currently working on a novel. But did you know that I had already completed one novel last summer? It was about immortality and the fountain of youth, and I had very high hopes for it. Until I heard about the new movie that was to come out in 2006, called The Fountain. Pretty much the same story. I did some investigating, and found that the writer and director of Reqium for a Dream also wrote and directed this movie. I did some research and saw that he wrote this years before me, it got approved for a $95 million dollar budget, but due to creative conflict with the star to be Brad Pitt, the production was canceled. Now he is completing it with a smaller budget of $45 million, and smaller actors. One on side, this was very disheartnening for me. To work so hard on something for a year and see that the idea is already taken was devastating. But on the other hand, it was a great confidence booster. I mean, I basically thought of a story that was approved for movie production twice by Hollywood. So I have big hopes for this next novel. I'm keeping the content on the down-low until I finish it. I am pretty sure nobody has thought of this yet, and don't want spinoffs until mine is complete. Wish me luck!

Great topic for a novel. But you can still fine tune your novel on immortality and fourntain of youth to make it even better and more interesting than the soon to be out movie version. Please check my blogs on Immortality and Cloning, as they may be able to add some additional inputs and insights to your finished novel. You can tell from the blogger comments that the topic of immortality and cloning is quite popular and the potential for box office success is tremendously high. Good luck on your novels. :)

Thanks, I will check out your blogs. I am adamant about coming up with the most original ideas in my novels, though. So I thought about remaking it, but it will now be viewed as a copy of this upcoming movie. So for now, I work hard on my completely original 2nd novel idea.

Define 'completely original idea'... (retorical question) I'm not certain that your story on imortality and the fountain of youth would be the same as this movie. For one thing, all you have stated is a vague premise, and one that has been around a while. it is very possible to have more than one completly origanal story which surrounds the same basic premise. for example, take the premise 'aliens attack earth to steal its resources, humans fight back and win against increadible odds' that premise has been used... alot... but Independance day and Mars attacks and War of the Worlds, and invasion of the body snatchers (etc) are all completely different stories... IMO originality is more in the telling of the story than in the premise, or even the setting. good luck on your second novel btw, but I would still push on the first as well. ;)

Thank for the advice. I think you are right, it's not about coming up with something where nobody has even thought of, it's about making an original story, period. I will have to go back and change some things in the first novel, but I now have hope for it.
