Ed ~ I love my saturn lol.  But I'm practically dying to get a Vue or one of their new SUV's.  What did I learn today?  Now that Evil T has hurt his back having sex up against the wall, I'm probably the only one who hasn't tried that yet!  I learned "como se llama usted?"

I really wouldl rather not say here one of the things I learned but if you really want to know I'll e-mail you.

The other thing I learned is that my dad is moving up here at the end of August.  [sigh]
  • wombat said on Aug 03, 2007....
I learned a new procedure at work that is SOP.  So, ok, it was new to me....been doing it wrong for months!
  • Lucytorial said on Aug 03, 2007....
I learnt this morning (still morning here) that if you don't get up and go the toilet you wet yourself... damn those pesky lazy muscles of mine.

(Been sitting here for ages having coffee and couldn't be bothered to get up) guess I have to now, a little bit too full in the bladder department

I learned how Andy Warhol did some of the screenprints in his portfolio. I also learned that a collection of his prints were made using diamond dust. And his collection of Mick Jagger prints were made based off Polaroids he took of Jagger.

I learned how to use a raclette machine.
  • Suddenrain said on Aug 03, 2007....
I learned how many people have all kinds of obsessions. I also learned there was a bat in my backyard tree! Eeeek! (faints)
  • wombat said on Aug 03, 2007....
botoni:  What is raclette machine?  I can add it to my list of things I learned today....

Lucy:  You are a fool after my own heart.  Sometimes I am so busy here, that I barely make it in time...
  • Lucytorial said on Aug 03, 2007....
I know its very tragic actually, its sunny outside although the winds up and here I am pissing myself in front of the damn computer?? doesn't calculate.

Actually every time I jump up and down I piss myself... maybe I should do those exercises?
  • botoni said on Aug 03, 2007....
Thank you Wombie! I waited 21 minutes for that question. Raclette is a Swiss cheese. It is melted and poured over boiled baby potatoes and served with items like pickled gherkins and pickled onions. We had grilled peppers, strawberry tomatoes and rollandin with ours. (The cheese is a bit like a cross between Swiss cheese and mozarella).
  • wombat said on Aug 03, 2007....
Lucytorial:  Well, then stop jumping up and down.
  • wombat said on Aug 03, 2007....

botoni:  No fair!  You are making me hungry!  Sounds delicious!  I love melted cheese, and this sounds so yummy!  I swear, I could eat cardboard and pencil erasers, if they were smothered in good cheese!

But, again, what is a raclette machine?  lol...

  • Lucytorial said on Aug 03, 2007....
    Botoni stop it you are making me hungry.... Wombat I have taken your advice on board and will not jump up and down whenever I see a rat or mouse on the floor... *-}

I learned that the Umpqua River Lighthouse in Oregon is visible from 21 miles out, and that there are no lighthouses from my state in the lighthouse stamp book. Boo.

Wombie.....sweets....I m a lover of cheese myself. I ve yet to find one I didnt like. A raclette machine melts cheese. There are some into which you insert a wedge of cheese (raclette is a wheel type cheese). A heating element melts the surface and one uses a wooden paddle to transfer the melted cheese to a dish. Mine is another type. Picture a heating element under which one can slip small containers of cheese slices to be melted. On top of the heating element is a flat griddle on which to fry tidbits such as thin slices of sausauge or perhaps mushrooms etc. I like my melted raclette best on hunks of crusy french bread. Sorry Lucytorial!

You've done it now I'm getting some food..
  • wombat said on Aug 03, 2007....
botoni:  I need me one of them thangs...  I love Vermont hard cheeses, which we buy in blocks.  I have always wanted a simpler way to melt them so I can sop them over my dishes....  Thanks!  I will have to check into this.....
  • botoni said on Aug 03, 2007....
Wombie sweets....I think your comment got eaten....either that or the raclette machine melted it.
  • wombat said on Aug 03, 2007....
My comment got eaten....something about how I love Vermont hard cheeses and need a better way to melt them over dishes...nothing important. Thanks!   Or is it there now?  Bummer that I have to deal with playing beat the clock, but I am used to it.

Ed...i have learned today that my friend who is a journalist quit his job at our old newspaper and now is working free lance. He might even help me with placing some stuff of mine.

Bottie...i love cheese too...my favs are mozzarella and any semi hard cheese.....that raclette of yours wouldn't find room in my kitchen though...for some reason i dont like melting my cheese very much, beside the one i put on my pizza, naturally...

  • botoni said on Aug 03, 2007....
SoulCast is out to get us Wombie! When I looked it was just 'botoni:' now it has grown. I have a suggestion for you. Slice your cheese, place it on a baking sheet or pie plate etc. Pop it under the broiler in your oven for a few moments just until its bubbly. You ll get the same effect. I just have this kitchen toy fetish thing going so when I spotted it I had to have it.
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 04, 2007....
notsosingle: am i weirdo for not wanting a SUV? me, i'd rather picture myself in the sky--those things look great! there was a bright yellow one in the dealership...mm...so for the spanish-challenged, what does that mean?

mimi: i'm sensing a whole lotta mixed feelings there about your father. ?

    wombat: um...oops? :> i love a good, sharp cheddar, too. :D

tobi-lee: i'm exceedingly surprised to see you commenting on one of my blog entries.

super z: damn...i took an art class on silkscreening back in high school and while i lack the patience for that technique it's still nifty. i'm quite curious about the diamond dust prints. warhol nicked polaroids off mick jagger?!

botoni: how in the world did you happen upon a raclette machine, and perhaps as importantly, why did you learn this?

infernal: no lighthouses at all? i find that exceedingly surprising!

GS: that's fantastic news--i'm thrilled for you!

Today I learned that if I were single and I lived in Texas I would have a good chance with gingersoul. I also learned that my cell phone company has been deducting my bill payments as usual from my account but not sending me the bill for the last two months.
  • the_infernal_optimist said on Aug 04, 2007....
Yeah, you'd think that at least one of the seven would've been chosen, esp. since three of ours are painted rather interestingly compared to the plain white/beige of the ones they did feature.

skald: i'm sure you will, i think of you as the kind of person who is excellent at finding something worth learning.

hotaka: that's disturbing about your mobile phone company (WTF?) and your revelation re: GS i must confess doesn't exactly surprise me. :>

infernal: apparently, the people involved were doofi (pl. of doofus).

Ed......One of my haunts is a Liquidation World store. One of my obsessions is a bargain ($100.00 machine for $25.00). Learning about and attempting ethnic foods fascinates me. Cheese is a particular fondness. Kitchen gadgetry almost controls my life. With all those factors the raclette machine didnt have a chance of staying on the shelf.
Ginger......I have that 'no room in the kitchen problem' too. I think its going to have to live in the basement when not in use. Melted bubbly cheese on pizza of course! But then there is lasagna, open faced broiled cheese sandwiches, canapes topped with melted cheese....etc. I love cheese in any form though.

I learned that I have some wonderful friends.  Well, I already knew that, but it was reinforced today. :)

  • boyzmom said on Aug 04, 2007....
I learned that Botoni likes cheese and kitchen gadgets and has had some rude reactions to his good manners. I learned that my ex-husband is out of jail (for now). Most importantly I learned that my seven year old's fingernails grow really fast because they were really long already.
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 04, 2007....
mimi: you know, i'm sure all of us could have told you that. :>

boyzmom: but...everyone likes cheese, don't they? :D i guess that's good about your ex, right? and just how fast are we talking here?

    ed
  • boyzmom said on Aug 04, 2007....
re: cheese- I know I love it! re: ex- could be good (if he still has a job) or could be bad (too soon to tell). re: fingernail- about 1/2 inch in 10 days, or maybe I shouldn't have let him cut his own fingernails last time ( he probably didn't do a good enough job).
  • Zayda said on Aug 04, 2007....
Silver: No, you misread. Warhol didn't nick the Polaroids off Jagger. He took polaroid pictures (remember the polaroid instant cameras?) of Jagger and then based his screenprints of Jagger off those polaroids.
  • Zayda said on Aug 04, 2007....
Andy Warhol's Shoes Portfolio is a collection of some of his works using diamond dust.  Click here to see them.  Up close and personal, they sparkle.  They are done with synthetic polymer paint, silkscreen, and diamond dust on canvas.

Here's another site that did an exhibition of the Shoes portfolio in 1999. There is a bit of an explanation about the Shoes portfolio at that link as well.

  • NotSoSinglechick25 said on Aug 04, 2007....

Ed ~ nope you aren't weird.  I only like the Vue and their other SUV's cuz they aren't big ol honkin' monsters like most other SUV's.  And yes I love the Sky!  I've wanted one of those roadsters since they came out last but I may eventually be able to afford the Vue lol.

Today I have learned through the humdrum of a routine Saturday afternoon in the Slacks household that everyone, everyone, has a differing definition of "bunny butter biscuits," and that Dan Rather is particularly confined to his.  When will we learn, people?  When will we learn?

Hi, we were studying about intellectual property rights and the rights of craftsmen in English, Roman and Jewish law, but did I learn anything? it was too complicated, except that the concept does have early roots, oh and that according to one commentary "fish send out spies for bait". That was weird enough to stick in my mind. it was in reference to the rights of fishermen for setting nets.
  • Mamie said on Aug 04, 2007....

I learned today that cilantro should be used sparingly.  We ate at a Spanish tapas bar tonight and boy oh boy, the chef there lo-o-oves cilantro.  First time we ate there--it was excellent.
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 05, 2007....
super z: ah...my reading comp is evidently on the fritz...again... yes, i do remember polaroids. :p

i'm not very familiar with warhol's work, but that was quite informative. thank you. :>

queen: please don't make me trout-smack you again? :p

mamie: i don't think there's a single insurance ad campaign i've seen to date that i actually like!

notsosingle: well, i don't mind being weird, you know... :D i don't know what i think of the new look of the vue but at least it's less boxy now. :>

destiny: saturn is a brand of american automobile. :> and yes, moping does little to make you feel better, IMX so i'm glad you saw that for yourself. :>

mr slacks: um...dan rather knows what bunny butter biscuits are? and for that matter, what's your own definition?

    trinov: what a strange expression!

mimi: oo, overuse of cilantro is annoying! i'm envious that you had tapas--that would hit the spit just perfectly right about now...
