mOOn platOOn

7 regular features updated on odd days

The Bottom Line: This is a blog about mOOn platOOn, by Steve Games. Working in Hollywood but outside the bounds of studio controls, it’s a dream to create a movie – a TV series – a video game, books, interactive website and toys, and this is the beginning.

LOWER YOUR SHIELDS. Hollywood Outsider Makes Star Trek Connection

I enrolled in an improvisational acting class, and who sat down next to me on the very first night? Wil Wheaton, the actor who played Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation for four years.

Wil and I have now performed in class together and did some homework by going out to a couple of improv shows. He usually has an entourage (really!) but on two occasions it was just me and Ensign Crusher out on the town. No, we’re not gay. He’s married and I have a girl friend of six years.

He’s a good guy and quite the writer. Google him, he’s got websites, books, he’s an actual honest-to-gosh self-proclaimed geek. If he were just a bigger star, I’d recruit him for mOOn platOOn.

It Came From Out Of The Script

The following excerpt from the mOOn platOOn script features McVey, the government agent (an older black gentleman) who recruits for the secret space program devoted to building weapons, and Ariel, a talented but crude lost soul awkwardly trying her hand at prostitution.

McVEY

You must be pretty desperate. [They stop.] You don’t really like doing business with African Americans, do you?

ARIEL

How the “hello” do you think you know anything about me? Well, it’s nothing personal. I just don’t do coloreds. Usually. Don’t go all “civil rights” on me, okay?

McVEY

It’s okay.  I don’t do prostitutes. No offense.

ARIEL

It ain’t just Negroes! I don’t do Chinamen or Japs, either. Or none of them…or those….I just like stickin’ with my own kind. Unless…it’s a holiday, or…

McVEY

Now that’s unfortunate. Because, first of all, you could use the business.  And then, there’s the fact that you aren’t really hanging with your own kind at all. You think street scum is the best you can do?

If I Were Casting Now

The part of McVey, an older black American working for a secret government headhunting operation: MORGAN FREEMAN

mOOn platOOn Byproducts

As a novelty book for sci fi enthusiasts, how about Dr. Cannadda's Guide To Human Health On Other Worlds. [Dr. Cannadda is a medical practioner working on the Moon with mOOn platOOn]

mOOn platOOn Issues

One of the themes for the lead character, Oberon, is the issue of parental abandonment. His father never acknowledged him and the boy was raised by a rather resentful and underqualified uncle. Anyone out there share a similar situation with insights?

    Are you taking headshots/resumes?

Wow, a courageous attempt to work outside the system. I'm going to send you twenty bucks. Sounds like a cool project, will $20 help? It's going to take an awful lot of those to make a movie...

I hear ya on the father who abandoned the kid thing. That sounds like my sitch, even to the point of temporarily (thank god) having to live with my evil UNCLE!!!! Not eveil so much as ignorant, but same damage....
So what happens? Does Oberon (cool name) go find his old man or does it turn out to be Darth Vader??

  • mOOn_platOOn said on Aug 02, 2007....

CHECKERED - Sure, send it by email to stevegames1@yahoo.com

Look forward to reviewing your info

KILGORE - Yes, of course, and thank you! I just started raising money a month ago after completing the third draft of the script and here's how it's going:

If you want to be credited under “Special Thanks” simply keep coming back to the blog with useful comments and ideas. All comments will be read regularly.

    Production Advisors $20 - $99

    Associate Producers $100 - $999

    Producers $1,000 - $9,999

    Executive Producers $10,000 +

So far I have three Producers (@ $5,000, $2,100 and $1,400, respectively) and have now opened a PayPal account to make it possible for everyone, no matter where they are, to get involved.

All production advisors, associate producers, producers and executive producers will immediately get a copy of the movie script, “mOOn platOOn.”

UE - not exactly Darth, but what insights do you have on this subject? Did you ever meet Dad? Still in touch with Uncle? Is Uncle still the same or reformed?

RAUL - Hmmm. The way Wil is on the computer all the time, he'll probably google us and stumble upon this, so who knows?

    Didn't we do it once?
  • TheUndergroundEagle said on Aug 03, 2007....
mOOn - get this, okay? I haven't talked to, seen, heard from, of or about my Uncle for 20 years. Then two weeks ago I got the feeling and googled his name in his home town obituary and fuck if he wasn't there! Dead! So, no person-to-person resolutions there...odd feelings, though. He was the kind of guy who laughed at your dreams, you know the type?

Hi ed, nice to meet you...

Yes, he is! And he has some great stories.

Can you imagine dropping out of a successful TV series because you were 17 and wanted to get to your date??

Wil told me that he didn't realize at the time "...it was okay to be bored and make lots of money."

At the end of ST:TNG's 4th season it appeared that Wil was going to be doing a movie with a major director as well. All these things culminated in a walk-off.

The movie (as with most) never came to be.

"I'm still in  therapy three times a week," he reveals.

Hi, Morgan Freeman is my favorite black actor by a mile.
  • silverwhisper said on Aug 05, 2007....
it's gotta be weird for him. but he did great work in stand by me, too.

when slashdot did an interview with him either last year or the year before, he impressed me as a fairly nice guy. it's always cool to find a celebrity isn't some ego-driven jerk, i find. :>
