This city will eat you alive. It is all consuming and fast paced and it has no time for those just trying to walk along at a leisurely pace seeing all there is around them and trying desperately to suck it all in like a baby who is taking it's first sip of milk! I have been here since I was 17 and have seen many a person come and go. The traffic is awful the public transportation system has had it's flaws and yet we all seem to get along just fine in the process. Tragedy has struck us more than our fair share and some of us will never return because of it. Then there are those of us still trying desperately to recover from it. NYC is not for the feeble minded or the meager it is for those of us who are bold in character and of heart. It is a city I love and am proud to live in despite the reality that it is getting more dangerous by the minute and things keep falling down around us. People come here for many reasons ....college, work, opportunity,family....just to name a few and somehow they strangely fall in love with the charm of the city. Maybe because at any hour you can go out and get a 4 course meal or find an all nighter raging on in the distance. Maybe it is because you never really need a car and can save thousands a year in gas. Or it could just be the magic that comes and radiates from the city life. It is never going to treat you any differently than another place except for the lack of farmland and simple 4 story buildings. Forget the two lane highways and short overpasses; gone is a simple one way street and to the point street name as well. There are thousands of numbers to learn and just as many one ways to fathom. Despite it all it is the most profitable city and the most populated one. We are a giant melting pot and everyone has a chance to display a talent and gain a profit. You can be who you really want to be and that is why I love it. Don't You?
