My fellow bloggers, No wonder Bush hasn't vetoed laws before. He just rewrites them as he's signing them so that they fit his agenda. This brings up a couple of questions. First, he can write? I'll bet that he has someone write for him. He dictates and the person taking the dictation writes up the new law in English. Truly, you would think that our current president would be pursuing education changes more aggresively since the system failed him. My wife says that illiteracy leads to violence. It doesn't get much more violent than going to war, does it? Second, why do we have a congress during this presidency? We should just do away with having them debate everything and look for the middle ground. This president just makes up what he wants anyway. He breaks the law and no one does anything. He takes away constitutional rights and no one does anything. Why go through the mockery if we are going to let him do what he wants anyway. As usual, a shout out to my new NSA readership.

I think these days it's become commonplace for presidents to have other people write speeches for them, and I'm not even sure if it was rare two centuries ago. If I'm remembering correctly there was some controversy relatively recently regarding the fact that Kennedy had a speechwriter, since many of his speeches ("ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" was him, right?) were so profound and thus deemed highly original. The main difference here is that because JFK spoke well we can venture that he wasn't a complete idiot, and can therefore assume that he had a hand in some of the speechwriting or at least contributed ideas most of the time. Our current president speaks like an awkward middle-school student and doesn't even sound like he knows what he's talking about much of the time.

Illiteracy + fratboy ways + secretly white supremacist tendencies + very conservative views + hey, I'm the prez, yo!!= warmongering, doing whatever he wants, not taking accountability for his actions, among other things. yes. I think your wife is onto something there.

Ah, for the good old days of a president looking straight into the camera and lying with silver-tongued eloquence. The days of a president who weakened our military to the point that terrorists felt confident to slaughter hundreds of our innocent citizens in our own country. Ah, for a president like that. They are all just men. All men are flawed. Write on.

I liked the statement your wife made. And I don't think you're way off base. It is common for someone else to do a President's writing... however, I think rewriting/compromising with laws IS better left to Congress where there are masses of different views and ways to settle disputes. I agree.

alienated, are you incapable of simply incapable of rebutting criticisms of bush or merely unwilling? let's remember that rumsfeld was planning a massive downsizing of the armed forces when bush took office. if all you've got to add to the discussion is a harangue about why you think clinton was terrible, well, that's not really adding much. i have to say, i am impressed by the supreme court nominations we've seen from bush. they're much more moderate than we've had any reason to expect. successwarrior: NSA? ed

NSA, National Security Agency. The agency that Bush is using to illegally tap phones, read emails, and access bank accounts.

Well now you are getting the idea! Of course Bush has someone else right his speeches. That has been going on for a long time. Even Kennedy did that. They also hire companies that study what kind of image they should present that would be the most positive. Case in point, Hilary Clinton. Notice how much she has changed in looks and presentation. There are companies that are devoted to telling leaders and celebraties, etc. how to dress, act, what to say etc. that will make them popular with their target public.
