My cousin Inga, she is my
grandparents eldest grandchild and I’m next in the row. She told me long ago
that she was with her grandson in a place that we Icelanders usually call fairy
habitat, or cities. These places are in rocks.

I personally never believed
much in fairies.

Inga took pictures of the boy
and his dog and then there were strange things on the pictures. Since this was
on our national TV tonight then I don’t see that I have to shut up anymore. She once asked me not to talk about it on the blog.

The Soul research society of Iceland sent the pictures to London, New York
and more places to be researched and they said they were no fakes. I knew all
the time that they were no fakes because I know Inga who is a very reliable
person. So here are the pictures and you can see for your selfs. This is not taken on film so there could not be a fault in the  film. My cousin keeps the memory chip.

How very intersting Skald! I d love to know more as the story unfolds. Is there a possiblity the lights are caused by something extra ordinary in the environment?
  • skald said on Jul 31, 2007....
Botoni . If you look closely the phenomenons have wings and heads and two feet. People believe they are like flowerer fairies. Others don't believe. But this is sure strange. I don't think it could be caused in the environment.
  • botoni said on Jul 31, 2007....
A closer look certainly reveals what you are saying.

Skald, those are some interesting pictures! Now when they were there, did they actually see these things? Or did they only show up on the pictures? I've heard about fairies quite a lot, but this is the first time I've seen a picture like this. It's fascinating!

Yes this is very interesting. A friend once gave us a book about a family that inter-acted with fairies, and it was someplace up north on the planet, it might have been Iceland. That the fairies were guardians of the plants... In our tradition, it says something like : a blade of grass does not grow withous a "mazal' saying to it "grow". The word Mazal could mean luck, but here it has another meaning. The lights certainly do seem to be winged figures. I hope that we can all learn more about this.
  • skald said on Jul 31, 2007....
Evil.  They only saw this when they saw the pictures.
Trinov.  In our folks stories there are often fairies that interact with humans but they are about the size of humans. The evil ones want to lure the humans into their rocks and they are heathen. The good ones want to get a mid wife and they really award the ones who help them and then there are fairies that want to have sex with humans.
Your Mazal sounds like a fairy.

I have heard stories of these phenonomenon photos.  Now I have seen them for myself.  I can't for the life of me explain them, either.  But thank you for posting them!  I believe in alot of things that most people don't.  The one thing I can't believe, is simply, "Why fairies?"  Isn't that an odd one to comtemplate?  But I see them in your photos!

Skald......what great pixs. Thank you so much for showing them. We talked about fairies in one of your first blogs.....

If those fluffy flying things are not fairies i would be so disappointed!

Maybe one of them is Tinkerbell.....:-)

I like the dog too ...usually animals are very sensitive at the presence of something unusual....maybe the dog has already seen the fairies many other times...who knows?

    Keep us update.

Interesting. In the landscape shot, the one of just the rocks and vegetation, two of the lights look like insects. The one in the sky and the one on the left have a distinct insect appearance. The puzzling thing is that they appear to be glowing. If a flash had been used then the colour of the insects might have lightened but they were still be discernable as insects. Some of them are blurred or out of focus and appear to have a human-like form. The fact that they appear in different places in each photo suggests that it is not something on the lens. Is there a kind of white insect around there? But even still they shouldn't glow like that. Not the entire bug.
    Very peculiar.

    Interesting pictures..
    Fairies exist??
Wow I thought it was another imaginary thing again..but this not just a papercut fairy..
But what you had shared pictures makes me believe that fairies exist..

In our place they believe dwarves existed peacefully as long you not disturbing their business ...grandma once told me that certain person in her time was taken in their world and never found again...

Wombat.  i don't know either what this is but sure they look like fairies.
Allswell.  yes, just like I said there above to Wombat.
Botoni.  I am glad you had another look.
Nurecutie.  That is right the place is something too and we call such places fairy cities.
Ginger. That is right we talked about fairies, thanks for remembering. Yes, who knows about the dog. He is a country dog and lives near to the place. My cousins son is a farmer.
Hotaka.  I am sure my cousin did not use flash. No, we don't have many insects in Iceland and I don't think there are insects there.
Silent.  Might you be from Ireland?  The Irish and us have similar folks believes. We also have the folks believe in dwarfs. Also in big trolls. The fairies are supposed to take people sometime to their world, not small things like that but fairies that look like us and are our size.
Ninjapirate.  If I find out more I will post it. Thanks for the comment.
Kruu. Thanks the boy is a relation of mine and looks like  his father.  Your thought of bringing beauty to the world appeals to me.
Mom.  Yes ant we more skeptical now. It is only natural.
destiny.  I am glad you like it.

Skald - those are cool pictures.  Thanks for sharing.  I'm wondering about the history of the place your cousin and grandson were when the pictures were taken.  Do you know anything about it?
  • quietone said on Aug 01, 2007....
Oh, Skald, I am in awe!  These are excellent photos.  Thank you so much for sharing them with us.  If it is true they are faries, I hope you don't get a bunch of people flocking to Iceland to try and see them.  There was a movie once, I can't remember the name of it, it took place in Ireland I think where 2 kids found faries by a river, and tourst came and scared the faries away.  The kid in me wants to believe for sure.  :)
  • Me-Myself&I said on Aug 01, 2007....

The pictures were great, thanks for sharing!!

  • skald said on Aug 01, 2007....
Fearing.  This is out in the wilderness and I don't think the place has any special history.. There are places like that all over here and in such places people believe fairies live.
quiet.  Good point. The fairies don't want to many people about. They move away if there are too many people. Also if there is a new neighborhood too near to them.
  • Mamie said on Aug 01, 2007....

Yes Icelanders always believed that there are many kinds and they talked mostly about the kind that is the same size as us.
Mamie.  You must be one of those people who are very sensitive to the surroundings. I think the word is perceptive.

There is no evidence of a flash being used on any other object in the photos. I wonder why I don't see any faeries in the first photo but they appear in the others. Neat stuff. I showed a student of mine and she was really impressed.

  • Trinov said on Aug 02, 2007....
Hi, we talked about this before: when doing research on an entirely different topic I found that in many different places in the world there were inter-actions between what we could call human size fairies and people. In the different places in the world they would use human midwives and reward them, kidnap people who would disappear for decades and show up as young as when they left, take young people as lovers, and be terribly angry at bad language and indecent gestures. People would use bad language, indecent gestures and objects of iron to protect themselves or free themselves from these fairies, genies, banshees, Sheedim etc...Dwarves were also part of the legends in many separate places in the world...(There is even a law in the Talmud that less than three men should not cross an abandoned field on Friday night--the night that they are most powerful in our tradition for fear of being attacked, etc by these fairy entities .) (On Friday nights a Jew could not take out a torch for light and so would be more vulnerable.).... The midwives would also be approached by the pregnant fairies in the form of cats, especially reddish cats... The same themes were found in Ameridians, in Ireland, in Europe, in Asia...whereas most folktale themes would be specific to a certain area or ethnic group or ethnic groups who inter-acted or were neighbors......
  • skald said on Aug 02, 2007....
Trinov. Then the question is, weather there could be some other beings on an other wavelength and that the wavelengths somehow sling together. This could be with those beings as others..  My grand dad used to say that about ghosts. Why not fairies?

There is also a folklore by us that  on New Years  Eve you should sit on a cross road and the fairies who are  moving house then will pass you and offer you things. You should never accept because if you do then you would become crazy. But I think if  you can stand all the temptations you can have all the sliver and things afterwards.

Well this is me just talking and talking but the thing which you are showing us is how common this believe is all over the world and how much alike everywhere. It is most interesting and then it raises the question again. Why. It is because of common experience. Because that mankind is everywhere the same? And we can go on like that. Thank you for you most interesting point.
  • silent_wisp said on Aug 02, 2007....

    Hello

    I'm not from Ireland skald..

I'm from Philippines...our country has lots of stories about elemental beings.

to you is trolls ..ours is "kapre" (a giant living in a old big tree who smoke cigars)

  • skald said on Aug 03, 2007....
Silent.  I really liked to hear that. See how mankind is alike all over. thank  you silent.
Your giant lives in an old tree and our in rocks and mountains. it depends on what we have. We don't have so many trees.

  • moonriver said on Aug 03, 2007....
skald -- that beings with life-like behavior but seemingly non-material bodies exist around us, and identified by names such as fairies, elves, dwarves, ghosts, elementals, etc. -- for me these are givens. it's not whether they exist or not, but how to know more about them, bring them from the realm of folklore to the realm of scientific phenomena.

wearing my scientist's hat, my only criteria for now is to make the observations repeatable.

which brings us to practical questions such as: where and when do these elementals appear? what was it in the camera, or the conditions when the pics were taken, that allowed these elementals to show up in the image? do they have patterns of movement or behavior?

with the proper instruments and methods, we should be able to accumulate empirical observations and discoveries, then later derive theories that fit the facts and hopefully answer our very human question, "who/what are they?"

  • skald said on Aug 03, 2007....
Moon.  Very wise. I pass no judgment on what this is. I really don't know. I like the folk lore as it is. I don't know who  were the scientists that researched the pictures.
I have heard theories, like pollen. I tried to picture pollens. It did not come out as this.

  • Trinov said on Aug 04, 2007....
Hi, If science was truly "scientific" it as an institution would be investigating everything, especially phenomena that is shared around the world. But instead many of the scientific institutions want to hang onto an old paradigm that does not let in anything that is not mechanical, while Quantum theory, Heisenbergs principle, Einsteins quest for a comprehensive field theory and the concept of time bending space etc, String theory, and talk of time travel etc has been part of the scientific paradigm for some time now............. All these new concepts are outside of the mechanical nineteenth century way of looking at the world....While criteria of some sort are necessary before we accept certain things as true, ie we cannot just accept everything our neighbors say or even what we think we saw at some time, we should be coming to a conclusion that the world is more complex than we can grasp, and that we are going, through the centuries, through a series of paradigms or parables which are finite levels of understanding, each time hopefully broader and deeper, but that the world is the result of an infinite Creator and we therefore will never fully understand the Creator or his Creation in all its infinite facets, but that the journey should be very interesting.
  • skald said on Aug 04, 2007....
Trinov.  I am with you there. The journey should be very interesting. You really have given us many points to think of there in your comment I mean.
  • hotaka said on Aug 04, 2007....

I have enjoyed a number of the follow-up comments here. I told K to take a look at the photos and she is very interested. We both like a scientific explanation but we also both enjoy a mystery, especially one that includes elemental creatures. I am hoping to hear the results of the research.

I think it is young grasshoppers that are called nymphs and they appear like the adults but are white. Not that I am suggesting that you have that kind of nymph in the photos but it is an interesting choice of nomenclature.

  • skald said on Aug 05, 2007....
hotaka. I like you like mysteries too . Thanks for the comment. I can definitely telly ou hat this is not a nymph nor any other grasshopper. In our country far up north  there are not grasshoppers.

Thank you so much for sharing these pics! I've seen other pics people have shared with similar Beings- and noone could see them until the picture was taken as well. . One photo I saw was of a green light-- and when you blew the photo up you could see the body and wings-- and it was illuminated green--not a green insect! I do get the feeling from looking at these photos you posted that they are definitely Beings from a different realm- and one of many types of Faery. Thankyou!
