I walked my first 5K at the gym yesterday.

Yes, I walked it.  I’m really not in shape yet to run it.  Except maybe 30 seconds worth or something.  I put on my super duper running shoes and got to work.  I actually attempted to run part of it when I ran into another problem.  I can’t believe I forgot that I have big boobs.  While normally this isn’t a problem, when you’re trying to run it’s monumental.

So, the new project for the week is to find a running bra so heartily constructed that I won’t snap off a nipple or something when I try to run.  This is all new to me, since I haven’t run anything more challenging than a 440 since college, and then I was less endowed.  I wonder how much spandex it takes to keep a pair of boobs from doing a great impression of kids on a trampoline?  Do they use levers and pulleys?  Yeesh!

The cost of running this 5K is growing by the day.  I think I could write my own commercial at this point.

registration fees: $30

running shoes: $60

sports bra: $100

Finishing a 5K run ……….. painfull.

LOL thats funny!! I have to tell you, that I bought mine.  It was so funny the first time I jogged on the treadmill at the gym.  I was like "wow, this is what those girls are talking about!"  So I've found that the sports bras that hook in front hold me down the best.  I'm not sure why but the ones with just one hook on the back don't keep the girls from bobbing up and down!  Imagine my surprise the first time I rode in a truck down a dirt road!  Believe my I'm not complaining!  I paid for them!  But I know what you mean!  So for me it's
    Boobs......$5000.00
Finishing a 5k run.....painfull but well worth it!

tizzy - LOL I can just imagine how eye opening it was when you went running with the new and improved "girls".  I'm hoping that my favorite sports store will have a solution to this perplexing problem without bankrupting me.

My bride is busty at best  and had the same problem.
She goes to a store that specializes in running clothes
and shoes and found a couple of sports bras that gave her
    the support...

Slirpuff - thanks for the tip.  I know how weird this sounds, but I'm not used to dealing with this stuff as I "bloomed" later in life, after my athletic school days.
  • Alyss said on Jul 30, 2007....
Ouch! That sounds painful! Hope you find a supportive bra...
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 30, 2007....
Alyss - Thanks.  Fortunately I do know when to stop when it comes to that sort of thing.  (hence the walking vs running)
  • cankwhiteboy said on Jul 30, 2007....
Maybe you could get a 'wonder woman' outfit.  Her boobs looked pretty well supported when she ran.  This has got to be the best suggestion you'll get, I'm sure of it.

Uniquely, that was funny, i can relate about sports bra...get a good one!!!! Because i had to get one and i thought i'd save money.....well, the cheap bra didn't "hold-up", my boobs fell out! giggling..........
  • minniemouse said on Jul 30, 2007....

As they say....duct tape fixes everything!!!  Tape those girls down if ya have to!!!  LOL....Good luck!!  :-)  MM

  • silverwhisper said on Jul 30, 2007....
that sucks! do they just not make good sports bras in your size?

i had a friend who had d cups as a freshman in high school and she confided that she absolutely hated walking up and down stairs.

CWB - I think it was her secret powers that was holding up her girls, but not a bad idea.

MM&I - the mental picture of you falling out just makes me giggle.  Yes, I intend to buy something with steel rivits and rebar if neccesary.

Minnie - If only.  The only thing I'm more allergic to than sulfites is adhesives.  Theres a story behind that, but I'll save it for another day.

SW - up until now I've been able to get away with cheap light sports bras.  In jujitsu there is very few movements that last over a minute and most of the time you're laying on the mat or putting someone else on the mat.  Not enough time for the girls to get crazy ideas.

U-I: I'll have to see if I can track down a site that sells great sports bras for women with large boobs. I had the link somewhere because I have that same problem when running. But right now, I can't find the link and I need to run because we are going to a baseball game. :)
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 30, 2007....
Zayda - Thank You!  It would be a great help.  Nice to know that I'm in good company.  Careful running now ;)
  • Zayda said on Jul 30, 2007....
Ahh...found it.  I had a couple of extra minutes because the little man and Mr. Z aren't quite ready to leave.

It's The Bra Shop.  They specialize in hard to fit bras as well as mastectomy bras.  Scroll down under search by category until you find sports.  :)  And you have to click the search button, hitting enter doesn't work on their search, at least it didn't for me.  :)

goodluck on the bra... and by the way dont forget... finishing the 5k... priceless!!!!

Ok I have a question since y'all might be able to help.  I'm not sure I want to just blurt out my bra size but I am really tiny around and I can't find many places that make a large cup size with a tiny around size.  Any kinds of bras...sports or every day wear or sexy ones....so any advice... I went to the Bra Shop link and it didn't have the around.  Any help out there?  Again, not complaining, just wondering...
  • evil_twin said on Jul 30, 2007....
Well, I'm afraid I don't have any advice for you. But I know Natalie has this problem too. She only does exercise like yoga, that doesn't require bouncing around! But I know she does have a sports bra of some sort. Maybe she'll know of a good one?

Sweet - I'm so excited about doing the run.  I will try to get a picture of me crossing the line to post. (hopefully on my own two feet)

tizzy - Have you tried a shop that specializes in hard to find sizes?  Usually the upper end shops have services to help you find the right fit.

ET - I'm open to suggestion.  Historically I've stayed away from "bouncey" sports, but I'm out to prove that my new knee can do anything the old one did.
  • tizzygirl said on Jul 30, 2007....
the upper end shops here- there is one that makes my size but only in select styles- so like 2 styles & I have to order from their online store.  Do you know any online stores I can check out?
  • uniquely-ironic said on Jul 30, 2007....
tizzy - Sorry.  While I have sizeable floaters, I have a very common band size.  I buy mine locally at generic chain stores.

Oh....how I can relate! LOL I joined a gym and would attempt to run on the treadmill, but there was alot of unwanted breast floppage going on! I switched to walking.....LOL

I did buy a decent sport bra at Mervyns.....I can't remember the brand though. It's not real comfortable, because it squishes the boobs down, but it does the job, because they don't move near as much.....it has a t-back and front closure with several eyelets.

If you don't mind being squished, this is a good option!

    xxoo natalie xxoo

ps~good luck with your run!! :)

  • Zayda said on Jul 30, 2007....
Tizzygirl: Try the site I liked above; they have smaller bras (band size) with larger cup sizes in quite a few different styles, including sports bras.
  • brokenandused said on Jul 30, 2007....
U_I: lol this story made me laugh! almost any girl can relate, that being said i usually wear two sports, yup two. does the trick for me! good luck!!
  • gingersoul said on Jul 30, 2007....

Unique.....if you are lucky you can find the same cones bra worn my Madonna....lol......since they are very pointy you migth gain useful inches to cut the line first......good luck for the race...

I have found last year a great sport bra made by Nike. Its extremely supportive and doesn have any hook at all. I have a pretty big breast and i don't like any unwanted movement in the area when i work out.....

  • quietone said on Jul 31, 2007....
Well unique, at leat you knew  I was here earlier.  I forgot what I had said, but I wish you luck in the 5K run.  That is a great accomplishment in itslef.  Tie down those girls so they don't slap you and knock you out!! LOL
  • skald said on Jul 31, 2007....
Athletic bras are very good and your boobs won't move at all. I know I have used them. Anyway it is great that you are walking 5 k. That must be kilometers? Congrats.  Some say you gain as much by walking as running.  And my gaining I also mean loose, lol. weight. If you need to . i don't  know.
  • CreativeWoman said on Jul 31, 2007....
I got a couple at a Vanity Fair store that had some underwire in them.  They keep me in place nicely. Comfort wise, they aren't bad either.

    Your post is hilarious.  :-D

    quietone - ?

nurse - someone else mentioned the front closures too.  I don't think I'd wear something that squishy for daily wear, but if it helps out the running I'll do it.  Thanks for the luck.

broken - Two bras.  Now that's something I hadn't considered.  I may do that if other options fail.

ginger - LOL It just might be the advantage I need, but I'd worry about taking someone's eye out.

quitetone - I wondered what happened.  Yes, I'm feeling pretty good about a successful first attempt.  The girls will just have to behave, even if it means putting them in a straight jacket.

skald - Yes, it is kilometers.  I actually enjoy walking very much, but I would like to do the run to prove to myself that I can do it.  I'm crazy that way.

CW - I haven't found a bra with underwire for exersize that has worked well for me.  The do keep "things" in line, but they tend to leave me with rubbed sore spots here and there.
  • Imladris said on Aug 01, 2007....
I can  relate, i did a 5 km run on sunday and spent half the time supporting my chest, i will have to find a really good bra before next year :-)
  • uniquely-ironic said on Aug 01, 2007....
Imladris - Exactly what I'm trying to avoid!  I don't want to have to run the damn thing with my arms crossed keeping the girls from hurting me or themselves.
  • Mamie said on Aug 01, 2007....
sighs.....I can shop for mine at Limited Too...if you see what I'm saying....oh you can't? I know! :)))M

Limited Too?  I haven't been in there in probably a decade
