Who's reading the_infernal_optimist (208):
...soul, what would I see?

Before you close the tab/window, I don't mean that in a spiritual sense necessarily. I'm curious as to how you view your soul/spirit/essence (whatever it is that makes you you as opposed to anyone else). I'm not asking for a self-judgment here, but a literal depiction.

Is it a room? A certain shape? A ball of light? Is it incandescent? Does it move/shift?

I've already stated how I see that part of myself, but here it is again:

When I picture myself at a soul level and I force concreteness, the emerald, living cavern with gold glinting impossibly off the surfaces-that-aren't gives way and there I stand. I am in front of a huge mirror with gold scrawled edges, and an identical one stands behind me. Everything but me and the mirrors is still so deeply green. From the angle of my gaze, I can see myself in the mirror within the mirror, infinite reflections such that I almost can't tell you where I really am.

Your turn. :)

    interesting post first of all...

i see me looking at the world with eyes and heart wide open. looking at things with more than it seems... =)

  • Suddenrain said on Jul 31, 2007....
I see myself as a soft glowing mist, pulsateing and moving, touching people and leaving a tiny sparkle behind on each soul I come in contact with. I see others as having the same glow but in diff. colors. All touching people and leaving their color on those they touch. So I am a fine gold mist with tiny little sparkles of red, pink, purple ect, from others having stopped and touched me in some way.  :-)

I like Sweet Cookie's and Suddenrains descriptions. I would be a combination of those and would add that I use to conform and push my soul in a box so it still hasn't found it's true shape yet.

wow, I love how you explained yours....

hmmm how thought provoking!!!  my mind is going in to overtime thinking this one out.....

I guess I see a small child, excited, in the midst of wonder and amazement ...discovering the big wide world and herself... a beautiful child inside and out but not aware of her beauty....  she has almost a magnet like force surrounded her drawing people in to her life... yet she is mature enough to figure out who of those she is to learn from... in her hand is a pink heart... angelic eyes and wings...yet she has not learnt fully how to fly free.... on her head devil horns.... on her face a mischevious grin...

wow no idea where that came from...I asked my inner me!!! doo dee do do lol
I'm tempted to delete the beauty part.... but I like how that whole thing came out!!

    what dya think??

I loved that.... kind of an awakening exercise!!!  thank you!!
    oohh post more :-)

ps I'd be curious to know what you saw when you looked in to my soul??
  • masked said on Jul 31, 2007....
i would see a very imperfect cube. no i dont know why its a cube. i just tend to draw cubes better than i draw other things when i start doodling. then again, who cant draw cubes?

if i can see the cube as my soul, it'll have a mix of different colours. dark, light and tons of red. red of different shades. for different moods. for different phase in life.

I just don't see it. I feel it and I can't describe it but it is there.
  • brokenandused said on Jul 31, 2007....
Wonderful question....i think your a  reflecting kinda person infernal optimist no? lol

My soul would be a woman dressed entirely in mask, meaning all you would see would be her eyes and hair. Her body would be covered in feathers, sequins, cloth, beads, buttons, anything but her own skin. She would come to those who needed her aid and with a touch of sympathy from her finger she would make the pain go away, with the look of love in her eyes, she would make the loneliness disappear, and with the whisper of her voice, she could make the misery stop. You never really see her, you never really know her, but you never seem to forget her.
  • PhazonPhreak1234 said on Jul 31, 2007....
my soul would be a wise old mentor, with his pupil, in the peacful serenity of the quiet forest.

    What intriguing replies!

u-i: Are you both parts equally?

Ed: Sounds like a pleasant soul, in keeping with what I know.

    NotSoSingle: Ideas? :)

    sweet_cookie: Oh, I like that!

MM&I: Have you always identified with nature that way?

    queenp: That seems fitting. :)

Suddenrain: What a beautiful depiction! I love your imagery and can totally envision something like that. We do leave our traces on others we come in contact with, for sure, and I think everyone is usually more striking/pretty for it.

boyzmom: I think many people have that problem (the box). I'm glad you aren't trying to force-fit it now. :)

pickers: I would expect nothing less! :-D Polished to a high shine, I suppose?

destiny: I love that! I don't often share my impressions of others in this regard, but what you've said doesn't contradict anything I've thought. ;-)

masked: That's quite a unique soul depiction, and a striking one as well.

skald: I understand - it's not an easy thing to visualize, and it's far more important to just be in harmony with yourself than to have a specific portrait of your soul in your head. :)

broken: I am a reflecting sort of person, yes (how on earth did you guess?). :-D I like your description, too, and I think I'll have to go familiarize myself with your blog when I have time. ;-) Welcome to my blog, by the way!

Phazon: Are you mentor or pupil most often, or a fairly even split?

    Infernal....what a beautiful question..:-)

My soul is made of waves, tiny and majestic depending by my moods. Constantly rippling, eternally rolling against the same shore. That looks the same but its not. I see an horizon line faded in the distance. The land of Atlantis waiting for me sowmehere. I still have to find her exact latitude.

I see footprints on the sand behind me that forgiving and compassionate waves had washed away....i see other footprints that are forming and are new and walk along with me. My soul is not illimited. Right now is compressed and pulsating and lonely. The suns and the moons alternating on this ocean sign the time passing by, that never return.

  • Me-Myself&I said on Aug 01, 2007....

Yes i have. I have never felt fear in the deep woods. I have butterflies that land on me often. Most animals aren't afaird of me nor i of them. The peace i feel when i'm out in nature...well, i feel as one. Oh...i have green fingers too not just thumbs!

I loved your post and enjoyed everyones picture of their spirit. Thanks!

ginger: What a beautiful picture to match a beautiful person, though I'd remedy the lonely somehow if I could.

MM&I: That's very special - I have the butterfly (and dragonfly :-p) "problem," too, though like you, I don't view it as an inconvenience. (And you're welcome :))

destiny: I'm glad you liked the post. :) I was just curious, and people like you fascinate me.

  • rightwingwizard said on Aug 18, 2007....
Were you to pull back the curtain of my soul you would be transported to a place where the plains meet the mountains.  You would hear a nearby waterfall and the gentle singing of the forest.  Stretched out before you would be a quaint forest lane overarched with the branches of mighty oaks and stately maples, laced with vines.  At the point where you stand the road takes a sweeping turn leading off toward the mountains themselves.

At some distance you would see a man, riding a white stallion.  As the man approaches you would see that he is dressed in all white, with a long flowing cape training behind him as he rides.  This man has long white hair and beard.  He rides as though one with his mount with out the use of saddle or harness.  In his right hand he carries a long staff inlaid with living vines crested with a fist sized diamond set in a silver talon.  As he approaches you would see that his cape is stitched with woven silver and as the light catches it a cacophony of color is reflected from it in muted hues.  His hair and beard are intertwined with woven silver

He stops at your side and gazes at you with deep penetrating eyes that seem to reach into the very essence of your being.  It is then that you would notice a man weak and frail perched behind him. The other man's eyes speak of his long life and inner peace.

Without a word they move on toward the mountains.

For you see, within my soul resides the King of Kings, The Prince of Peace, my Guide and Comforter.  The Lord My God.

I found this through RRWs blog, wonderful question infernal.

My soul lives on top of a mountain. There is a waterfall which falls into a pool of blue water., from the cliffs you can see the sea. I have animals with me of all descriptions, eagle, cat, wolf deer. From the pool down to the sea is forest. I don't see this as my soul as such, I can't describe that, this is just where my soul loves to be. When I meditate, this is where I go.

  • the_infernal_optimist said on Aug 22, 2007....
Batty: What a gorgeous place! :) That must do wonders for your soul when you "go" there.

God says: Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
In other places in the Bible it is used to mean life, person, mind, heart;  The best explanation I have heard is to  think of a soul as a house.  A house is composed of wood and nails.  If they are put together by a house blueprint you have a house. If you separate the wood and nails and just stack them some place in two piles then you no longer have a house.  It just ceases to exist.
A soul is made up of a body and the breath of life.  If God takes one of them away then the soul just ceases to exist.
