Even the universe seems to be against this, you guys. As you know from yesterday's post, Jolly and I are planning a trip to Slovakia. We're supposed to leave early tomorrow morning. Because he was going to be out of town all day, I had to go buy the tickets (because the ticket counters will be closed by the time he gets in). So, he doesn't know that I decided on train instead of bus, and he doesn't know what time we're leaving, except that it will be early.
That wouldn't be a problem, because he was supposed to stop by my place and drop his stuff off tonight (whatever luggage he's not taking on the trip), before going back to his hostel and meeting me at the train or bus station in the morning. He was going to call me on my mobile before he headed over here, because he probably can't find his way back here on his own, and I was supposed to meet him at the tram stop. He'd drop his luggage off, we'd make all the arrangements for tomorrow, and everything would be right as rain.
Except.
Except, I turned my borrowed phone off during the day, because it kept hitting buttons while it was in my purse. Later this afternoon, on my way to the bank, I wanted to know what time it was, so I turned it back on and it asked me for the PIN number. I got it wrong a couple of times, and now, suddenly, my SIM card is blocked, and it's asking me for a PUK number. I have no idea where that is or how to find it. The phone is borrowed from the woman whose apartment I'm renting, and she's in Ireland at the moment. I tried calling her, but got a message saying she (the phone) wasn't allowed to receive my call at the moment. I sent her an email, but I don't think she checks very often. So now, Jolly has no way to call me, and has no idea where to meet me tomorrow.
Unless.
Unless he's read his email within the past couple of days. Then, he knows he can call me on my Polish phone. And, I just sent him an email letting him know what 's going on... but he's a newbie to internet cafes, so I hope it occurs to him to check it.
Fortunately, I was nosey enough to ask him what hostel he's staying at, so I can also try to leave a message for him there, but I don't have much faith in that, because hostels are notoriously bad for not passing on messages. So, it looks like the only alternative, if I don't hear from him by 10:30 or so tonight, is to go back to the city center and try to see him in his hostel.... and I really, really, really don't want to do that. But do I have a choice?
I also gave Jolly explicit directions to my house in the email. So, I guess this will be a test of his resourcefulness. Is there anything else left that could go wrong?
