People are disproportionately worried about foreign terrorism attacks.  As always, the biggest threat to our nation will come from the inside, as evidenced by this recent story of an old plot to overthrow the president and instill a fascist government. You'll be surprised at the conspirators.

From the BBC web page about the documentary:

The coup was aimed at toppling President Franklin D Roosevelt with the help of half-a-million war veterans. The plotters, who were alleged to involve some of the most famous families in America, (owners of Heinz, Birds Eye, Goodtea, Maxwell Hse & George Bush’s Grandfather, Prescott) believed that their country should adopt the policies of Hitler and Mussolini to beat the great depression.

don't have the time right now to read the link, but really--who's surprised that a bush thinks that authoritarian policies in the light of some pressing threat are a great idea?

While I would not condone the overthrow of any president, you have to
remember what was going on at the time. Communism was engulfing a lot of
the world and Roosevelt seemed to be cut from the same cloth. And in
1933, few knew what Hitler was all about. Interesting stuff, though. Always
fun to connect Republicans to Nazis. However, if they start blaming the
Hindenberg explosion on young George Bush (the first Bush president) and
his slingshot, I might start suspecting revisionist history. It is always fun to
watch how far the liberal media will go to blackball a Republican president.
And how ready other liberals are to believe it. Hard to pin stuff on the
ancestors of Democrat presidents. Do we even know who Bill Clinton's
father was, let alone his grandfather?

You know ALIEN, you're just not that bright.  The link wasn't about Republicans, it was about some influential rich people getting together and deciding that they would decide for the rest of us what our government and lives should be like.  I didn't even mention Prescott Bush.

If you'll notice the other participants a certain Mr. Heinz was among them, as in Heinz-Kerry.  Ring a bell?  It should, since you only have one bell that plays that one note.

And how far did the "liberal media" go to publicize Clinton's woes back in the 90s?  Pretty damn far as well.

Silver: You don't have to read it, it's an audio file.  :-)

o, don't mind alienated. his comments usually start off all right, but then the orbital mind control lasers get hold of him halfway through and he veers headlong into utter lunacy.

I am not that bright? You did not mention Prescott Bush when you said
George Bush’s Grandfather, Prescott? Yeah, I am not that bright.
At least I am bright enough not to listen to silverswhistle.

Well, claiming to be brighter than two dimwits put together isn't saying much, which makes me think you might be right.  :-)

Do some research into Prescott and you will find some interesting things.

Actually, I have done a little reading.  He was into doing business with the Nazis and eventually had his assets seized under the Trading With The Enemy Act.

silver:  Oh, I wasn't really expecting to change anyone's mind with that.  In fact, while I do find it disgusting I'm more concerned with the here-and-now issues that are threatening us.  Like why Rush Limbaugh is even still on the air.  :-)

BHR:  How much else do you suppose we don't know about our nation's movers and shakers?  A long time ago I used to think that wealthy people were somehow better, smarter, more sophisticated, etc.  It took me quite a while to figure out that many wealthy people and families got to be that way simply because they would do anything for money.

I'm not really worried about billionaires...you could give them a break on corporate taxes and property taxes if they agree to donate to certain charities..

desertsienna: um...they already get tax write-offs. btw, what happened to your original username?
