As a photographer of landscapes, my approach is to find beautiful moments in nature or attractive arrangements of natural elements and abstract those that arrangement using the dimensions of the camera view finder and the film. I love flying because I can look down on the shape of the landscape and see it from a different view. Often the stories of the earth become revealed from the air and we can see how sedimentary rock has been folded, how the wind has blown sand across a landscape, how glaciers have scoured the mountains, how water has cut canyons and valleys into the hills, or how volcanoes have pumped lava over a landscape.

Playing with GoogleEarth allows me to explore the geography and geomorphy of the earth and since  don't have the ability to actually see these landscapes with my own eyes, I have to rely on GoogleEarth technology to capture landscapes that interest me. I zoom in and rotate and save images of places that have nice patterns. Then on my computer I crop the images and saturate the colours and little. All original images are copyright of GoogleEarth and I suppose they retain rights to the altered images as well. So I'll give them full credit for that, no question. Nevertheless, take a look at what amazing things I have found while roaming the planet via GoogleEarth.

Those images are stunning!  They remind me of fractal patterns or those microscopic pictures of crystals forming that we took in university.

daily, they are pretty cool, aren't they. I just saved about three dozen more and there are some incredible images from Saudi Arabia. Watch for them in the next day or so.

actorguy, you know, when fractals were all the rage in the late eighties and early nineties it was the nature photographers who totally related. We saw the same things in nature. One thing I love to look for on GoogleEarth (and from airplanes) is fractals. Wait until you see the next set of images I am going to post.

silverW, did you notice the one that looks like fish scales?

fearing, I most certainly will. A new set will be posted in a day or so.

quietone and mobil, thanks. I spend easily two hours roaming the earth when I open GoogleEarth. I have to have time to really knock myself out.

And to everyone else who commented, thank you all. Earth creates, technology brings these images of earth to us and I just find the composition that I like best. More to come soon.

i wasn't thinking of them that way--you're referring to the sahara sands, i trust?

Fear you must not what has become of your diction. Nary comes the day when as shrivelled gremlins, strangely speak the English tongue we shall.

Very nice! I have actually been on a 6 day hike down one of the dry (very dry) river valleys in Namibia. Awesome place but diging for water each night can get kinda old after a couple of days.

This is an awesome discovery Hotaka, very nice

Thank you nack. I am very pleased to see you stopped by here. I am hoping to visit Namibia in the next two years. Perhaps I'll be asking you to recommend places. I know of two or three so far including the famous sand dunes.
