Who's reading Zaraida (7):
Geez, just a few days ago I was so sure I could go back to writing fiction.  I even sorted out all the stories I have started but never finished (quite a few of those).   I even revised one of them, thinking this one had possibilities.  But after reading it the next day, I thought no way, there has to be a better plot than this.  So now I'm back to Step One - forgetting about the whole damn thing.

I can't even decide what genre to write in.  I think writing romances might be easier for me, but I really don't like to even read romances.  So I guess I better forget that bright idea.  I love fantasy stories, and have started writing one but, as usual, went nowhere fast after the first few pages.  Geez, I only have a few years left on this earth - I'll probably be in my casket still trying to decide what to write!

Best advice I ever got was write what you know. When you start doing that, your book will write itself. Maybe you will let us read a little something? Good luck!

I have tried writing out a brief synopsis of the book (not that I'm working on it now) but I have almost the entire thing in short form,  with character's names and relationship to other characters, etc... written out.  If I pick it back up, at least I can remember where I was going with it.  Maybe start with that?

start small, zaraida. try short stories first, maybe. or consider this week's writing exercise, if that appeals to you. :>

wordman, thanks for the tip.  I just need the guts to put one of my stories here.  I read such good stories and posts that I chicken out when I consider this option.  The problem with "write what you know" is that I'm not an expert on anything.  I do a little bit of this and a little bit of that (interests-wise) and never seem to be able to stick to anything because I lose interest in hobbies and in writing as well from one day to another.  I promise not to complain about this anymore - it can get old to hear somebody complain about the same thing day after day.  Anyway, thanks for the advice.

Wombat :   Thanks.  I like your synopsis tip - will consider that if I can ever think of a book idea.

Silverwhisper:  Thanks for your advice also.  Yeah, completing a short story is my goal.  I didn't know there were writing exercises here.  I'm assuming they're on your posts?  I'll go check them out.

A short story inspired by autumn. How I love it: death, decay, decomposition... but with a promise of birth, regrowth. I'm drawn to the idea that not only our bodies, but our ideas, loves and conflicts can recycle in the earth after our death....
A well thought out query as to the accuracy of my writing, and the necessity of pointing out the vague obviosity of my postings....
I feel like crying....
written thoughts at this very moment.....
A short story, or perhaps the beginning of a long story....
