Here s the secret to greening grandkids. First you haul them out of bed at 6 AM to take them to a free pancake breakfast with 150,000 or so other folks at the Calgary Stampede. You stuff them full with pancakes, syrup, bacon, sausage and orange juice. Then you trot them through the various free stuff on the midway. Weadickville (hot dogs for 25 cents), trick dog shows, live entertainment for kids and few snacks cause you cant go to the grounds wihtout at least one corn dog, some cotton candy, mini-donuts, fudge, snow cones, elephant ears and a buffalo burger on banock.
Throw in a scorching sun, add another 50,000 people just to keep things friendly and hit the rides. A couple hundred bucks buys a lot of rides for three short people. Keep the sugar level really high....this is important to the greening process. When their mom and dad as well as aunt and uncle are all dragging bottom and pleading to please go home.....this after only 12 hours of pure unadultrated fun.....it s time to have three kids and grandpa whining to please just let us have ONE more ride. Honest just one!
At this point they should be nicely green. Very tired and barely able to walk. OK....they have been sufficiently greened when at least one is leaning over a barrel heaving. Time to go.
Their grandmother gets them tomorrow. I ll bet she has fun............hehehe.

Botty, you are soooo naughty!  I would have been sick and heaving right after the syrupy pancakes, bacon and sausages - no rides needed!!  You must have a lot of energy to be able to stand having the kids so hyped - how do you do it?  :-)
  • skald said on Jul 09, 2007....
This was to be the only time I can get them up so early and then of course I know your grand kids were very happy with  you. Glad you had this time together.

Aaaah, yes being able to rest the next day would surely give me more energy too!!  It aint so easy when they're with you 24/7 - as you surely remember - you little naughty!

Enjoyed reading about your day with the grandkids!  My hubby does that with our grandson--more or less.  He is also rough-and-tumble with him, though, until he is red in the face and all hyper--then sends him home for mom and dad to deal with!
  • genalonewolf said on Jul 09, 2007....
Hey Botoni, how does one become one of your grandkids? Do you think I am over the age limit? I hope not. I have never had that much fun when I was that age. I am sure that the kids will never forget it! lol
  • botoni said on Jul 09, 2007....
Missb.....at breakfast this morning they had recovered and willingly cleaned up a huge meal.
Silver.....they re at grandmas by now. I m waiting for the report.....hehehe.
Polar.....its the joy of being a grandparent. My own kids 24/7 could wear me down pretty good.
Wombie!......your hubby is a man after my own heart.
Gena.....sign up with the rest buddy. My grandkids love a companion and they ll enjoy the pumpkin pie I m sure you ll whip up after a few hours of fun. (So will gramps)
