Momsrock with straight hair

It doesn't look like anything special does it? Well.... I have always had thick hair which came in handy when I got sick in high school and lost a good portion of it. But, the creams they gave me to stimulate new hair growth actually worked much better than anticipated. I now have enough hair for three people....seriously.

The only way I have been able to manage it was with a perm or keeping it very short. So, I have had a perm for the last several years. My hair stylist blocks out her entire afternoon to be able to do it and it is so heavy that I have to have it done quite regularly. But this time, I let her have complete control over the style and agreed not to look in the mirror until she was finished.

She thinned it out so I have less than half of the hair I had before and I can actually wear it straight!! I can actually put it in a ponytail without having to use four hair ties and it is actually light enough to stay up without having to adjust it every 20 minutes! I am so excited!!!

I wish I had a before picture to go along with it but I don't think I do....not on this computer anyway... Just don't look too closely... I don't have any make up on! LOL I was just so excited I wanted to share....

You look nice! Your hair seems very pretty, but it took four hours to cut?? Wow. When I get my hair cut, it takes ten minutes, tops. Of course, I'm a guy...but what took so long? Is it because it's thick?

E_T: lol...well there were quite a few men that came in and left in the time I was getting mine done. It took so long to thin it out because she was basically taking out half of my hair instead of just cutting it. It's kind of like a comb/razor and then funny looking scissors that only cut certain pieces of hair so it didn't look like chunks missing!  And then she used a flat iron to straighten it...and then told me I was no longer invited to her house the following day because she was tired of looking at me! What an ordeal it was....just to have something most people wake up to!! Almost doesn't seem fair... lol

That sounds very, very complicated. But I did laugh when you said your hairstylist said she didn't want to look at you anymore! Does she charge you more than normal for a haircut? I'm sensing you don't go to Supercuts and get the $13 special with hair like that...

E_T: She is one of my sisters bestfriends that I have known for 20 years or so and never charges me what she should so I always give an extra large tip... it's her salon but it's a lot of work, she deserves it. She was hosting my sisters bachelorette party the next day so I made sure to go early and help her set up and run errands!

Thank you SL! I'm a bit excited about everything I can do with it now. My three year old was not impressed with it... took a little while for him to get used to it I guess.

Mirror, that is cool ;-))  and very different, I remember a photo of you once with a man on a cold winters day and you were wearing a bandanna, but the perm in your hair was evident - that was also nice looking, but it nice to have something different for a change, hey?

Polar, oh that's right! when we were in Canada! I forgot about that one...lol I think I look a little younger which is always fun! I'm a little excited to be able to do different stuff with it! lol

Ed, Thank you... I'm not quite sure how often I will be having it done though!! My butt hurt from sitting that much lol

fearing, well.... it looks better in the picture than it does in person! lol... can't see all my imperfections! thank you for the compliments:)

    MirrorMoms,

You look absolutely gorgeous! I like it :)

I had mine straightened as well 4 months ago. It's so much easier to manage :)

    Cheers!

Looks really good!  I too have super thick hair and its naturally curly.  I'm sure it must feel reallly nice!  I know how it is to not be able to use regular pony tail holders and stuff.  A few years ago I got some highlights and it really changed my hair to being straighter and not so thick.  The things we must do!

Four hours?!!  Better  do more than just look good.  Does it make you coffee in the morning?  Does it combat bed-head in the morning?

It's nice that your friend worked so hard on your hair w/o charging you for her work.  4 hours, that's a long time to work on hair and not get paid.  Your friendship with her must be something special.

Such is the price some women pay for beauty, no?

Well, it looks good on ya.  ;)

Your hair looks fabulous and after hearing all that went into it, I for one am sure happy my hair is not that thick. Although it does take an hour to put the rollers in my hair for a perm, I suppose it took longer than that for your hair.

Not seeing a before pic I can't say it looks better.....you look great.  wish I had the prob of thick hair...mine is so very fine it looks thin.  you are a very attractive lady makeup or not.  The look suits you.
  • mirrorimage said on Jul 04, 2007....
thank you missb! Is yours still straight? Any idea how long it lasts? I'd hate to think I have to go through this too often! lol but she promised it wouldn't take nearly as long the next time around...

ninjapirate: it's a good reminder for people that take their hair for granted eh?! lol...  thick curly hair is beautiful but hard to work with! lol

Grape: Well, she did ask me to hold her arms up for her because they were getting heavy...lol She is one of the only people I have ever met that can do my hair and make it look right because hers is very similar to mine... so I make sure to tip her very well...usually 50% lol... It doesn't make me coffee in the morning but it does scare away critters during the night....25 pound critters that run in after bad dreams.... seeing my hair all over they turn around and run back to their own bed! :)

boyzmom: I think it only took so long this time around because she was trying to figure out how to do it all because it doesn't stay up in those little clips either...lol I wanted her to take a pic 1/2 way through it because it was all seperated and frizzy from brushing curls and I looked like I stuck my finger in a light socket...it was horrible!!!LOL  an hour for rollers? That is quite a long time too!! Doesn't your butt hurt after sitting in those chairs for that long? :)

quietone: Thank you quietone... I was reminded I did have a pic with curly hair but after pulling it up you can't really get the full effect...it's not close enough. I understand the thin hair...both of my sisters have thin hair and always tell me to quit whining about mine! There is a good point there...I can always have mine thinned but it's hard for them to grow more...:)  Thank you for the compliment! I actually don't look that good in person...I have a very large nose lol...family trait...

It seems to me watching other people and listening...if one has natural curly hair, they want straight, the straight hair person would "die for" the curly. and so it goes...  lol
