dear kris, i would like to help you sort out your problem. not trying to be an evangelist, but if chritianity doesnt satisfy your needs, you might like to have a look at Islam, the religion of the the muslims. a widely misunderstood, but deeply enlightening faith with a growing number of believers-much more than most other faiths. many of the 'dark areas' of christianity are explained in islam-as i myself realised by reading islamic literature. all the while, though, it might help if you worked a little on your typing skills!! cheers
  • numbkris said on Jul 23, 2006....
lol yeah your right my typing skills arn't at there best. can you recomend any literature that might be of use to me? would be most appreciated..thanks alot :D

numbkris its not what religion you are in, its only about the truth, there is no real or true religion in our time today. Only christ stood that true religion and it is the only true church, are you with him? Try reading the bible kris. There is a one God that created everything that you see and does not see in the universe, we have something in common kris, I dont go to any church either but I believe in a God and my God is not stupid, my God is not here with us but he is in control of everything but not in control of our decisions, my God gave us the power to choose and decide for ourselves, There is an end in everything and while you are here in your mortal being its best that you read the bible and decide for yourself! you might be running out of time kris!
  • numbkris said on Jul 24, 2006....
but surely if I JUST read the bible I would be constricting myself again to only one religion..back tot he begining..lol
  • GMNIMan said on Jul 25, 2006....
Reading the Bible alone is not enough and can be dangerous if done without the proper guidance. Even Satan uses scriptures in an attempt to mislead Jesus Himself, what more lesser mortals like us.
  • numbkris said on Jul 25, 2006....
but surely the bible isn't the foundation to ALL religions..of course not...so why start there? I've already read the bible once and i didn't like it (no offense intended) there's too many shady areas..black spots..
  • GMNIMan said on Jul 25, 2006....
However, the Bible is the earliest written record of the Word of God, and the only one which outlines the History of salvation from the beginning to its conclusion. The Koran quotes freely from ancient scriptures, why even Satan refers to scriptures. Have you ever wondered why? If you have already read the Bible, then I am afraid you have not totally understood the messages it brings otherwise you would never doubt anymore (no offense intended). It is a whole lot more than just a collection of several short stories. I read the bible several times in my early years all the way from primary/elementary school till college, but still I doubted all through my early adult years and even drifted away from God completely at one time in my life. Only when I had some startling spiritual experience some seventeen years ago did I then begin to search for God and read the bible again. Only then did I understand completely who God and Jesus Christ really is. This is not the place to evangelize nor am I going to start now, so my only advice for you is to look for someone who can tell you more in person and talk to him. Your local church is a good place to start.

I'm happy to know that your foundations as a Christian are still intact and solid. The Bilble is the living word of God as it is chronologically divided into the books of the Old and New Testament. The most significant are the events of the New Testament as recorded and witnessed in the living flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. His coming into this world, dying voluntarily for our sins and the act of Resurrection is not only a true Testament but also a promise that we too shall one day be resurrected from our death to claim our eternal reward. Other than Jesus Christ, there is no other person in this world, living or to come who has performed such an extraordinarily holy and miraculous feat. If we are to accept the premise that the world and everything in it didn't come into existence except by God's design, then we can also the accept that same premise that we too like Christ will be resurrected. This isn't a debate on theology, it is a statement of fact of your belief. If you believe in the afterlife, then you must also accept that God is the author of the beforelife. That the coming of Jesus Christ into our world was by His design so that we may all be saved. The teachings of Jesus are simply God's Living Words. It wasn't as if it was something concocted by Christian theologians so as to capture the imagination of the Christians. They are real, they are the Words coming from God. As Jesus has said, whoever accepts Me, also accepts the One who has sent me. Whoever has seen me has also seen My Father. Kris, search your heart more deeply and reflect on them. Hold on to the truth of your faith, the truth that "Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life." The promise of eternal happiness shared with God in the afterlife is enough reason for you to continue believing that something good will come out of our earthly existence if you dedicate your life to a loving benevolent and merciful God who loves everyone including you and me. May I suggest you also check out lidstrom82's blogs as they also offer his personal insights on the magnanimity of Jesus.

Yes I agree GMNIMan as often expected it is not always best to read the bible alone because not everyone can fully understand it, like kris said it has too many block spots meaning if not understood correctly it will definitely contradict itself. That is where you need to be guided. But guided by whom GMNIMan??? How can you be sure if you will not be mislead by the guidance of others, there are hundreds of verses in the bible that is simplified and should easily be understood by the reader. And you can start there.... And to get better understanding of the Bible as a whole try to search and look for someone who you think best understands the bible. I suggest atleast try to visit this site just take a moment of ur time and try to open ur minds, it wont hurt.... http://www.angdatingdaan.org/
  • GMNIMan said on Jul 26, 2006....
jason, I just visited the site you posted. For someone who has lost his way a bit as far as the bible is concern, this site is as good a place as any to start with, though I would much prefer a place where he can be personally attended to face to face. I am not going to go into a discussion of the various interpretations of the bible from the all various denominations at the risk of confusing kris even more. Let him find the Lord in any way he can. Jesus is our common ground here, and through Him alone will we all be saved. Once kris can truly proclaim Jesus as the only Lord and Saviour in his life, then our good Lord will point him into the direction where He wants our friend to go. Have faith! Right well thanks everyone and keep posting is a very interesting subject...the only thing that bothers me though is...I know that the world isnb't here by accident (how could it be? a big cosmic fluke? no) there was a creator..but there are LOADS of religions out there that claim thier god made the earth..I understand that the bible is the best place to start since it's the oldest..what would be the next step after that? to read all the religious books on ll the religions(that's why I first posted this because I didn' know where to start) I know I must sound cynicle towards the whole religion thing but I'm just trying to find out what's true Thanks alot everyone ;-) been a great help P.S and thanks jason for the URL

In this world there are but two things to worry about.

Either you are sick.
or you are healthy.
If you are healthy then you have no real worries. But, if you are ill or in poor health you only have two things to worry about.

Either you will get healthy again.
Or you will die.
As stated earlier if you are healthy you have no reason to worry. But if you die you have again have two things to be concerned or worried about.

Either you will go to heaven.
Or you will go to hell.
Now it is obvious if you go to heaven you will have no worries. But, if you go to hell you will be so busy shaking hands with all your friends you will not have time to worry, so why worry? Or so the story goes…

There are a lot of liers who preach the gospel that can easily mislead you, most of them are rich and filty, greedy and ungodly and the bible is their weapon so be very carefull! They often appear with a very godly character and says a lot of amen's and alleluia's, glory to god, praise jesus and so on.... its often their job and they get paid for it so just ignore the script and go on. I was never a religious person but I'm lucky enough to spiritually be guided and learn from someone who is brave enough to question all of those who pretends to be Godly and Holy. Even for the sake of his own life he never stops until everyone hears the truth and that is why I listen to him. If only you can hear him speak and explain about biblical facts and the bible truth verse by verse, no crap whatsoever, no amens and alleluias. Just the truth and it set me free! The preachers name is Ely Soriano, and what really caught my attention about the guy is when they were having an exposition in a very big dome here in the Philippines it came to them that it maybe their last stand for their spiritual mission. But instead of backing up they continued and before he starts preaching he said "If I am going to die now then so be it... I thank my enemies in faith for you have fullfiled ur mission in doing so what u are about to do, and if my life ends today then it means I have fullfiled mine also, remember not my name and my face but never forget all of those that u have learned from me." -Ely Soriano of http://www.angdatingdaan.org/ Im not a member of their religion but we are indeed lucky having a guy with the balls to spiritually fight some of the biggest spiritual gangsters in our land. All religions are MAN MADE, all the books of ANY religion are just the understanding of the so-called ´wise´ people of those times. But it doesn´t mean there is no God. All this Heaven and Hell stuff just creates fear, EVERY human being has free will, we can do what we want. All you have to do to find ´God´ is to look at your own actions and see if they benefit or harm other human beings. This has nothing to do with ´hurting´ peoples feeling, hurt feelings are just wounded pride that´s all. In one of my blogs I seperate the words ´pleasure´ and ´Joy´ to illustrate the difference between seeking pleasure just for yourself and the JOY of helping others. Though the words may seem the same THERE IS A DIFFERENCE. Compassion is to help OTHERS. If anyone needs a definition of Hell... HELL IS THE WORLD NOW!! But if EVERYONE started to care about others then WE could create Heaven on Earth. No problem.

I think people inherently know the difference between right & wrong or good & evil. So in my "book" we only need one commandment. BE GOOD

sorry for being late here but i think a few things need to be drawn attention to: 1. the bible is NOT the first or the oldest of revelations. no please, there were many, countless revelations before the bible. the torah-holy book of the jews came before the bible for example. infact the quran states that the first mesenger was sent down for the third generation of Adam, as the third genration of adam had gone astray. 2. Islam respects the bible: we consider it as a predecessor of the quran, we respect Jesus as a messenger , although not god cause we believe jesus was a supreme human who came to spread the message of religion in the people. we dont think that he died and was resurrected, the quran stated that jesus never died 1400 hundred years ago. The DaVinci code is proof of this 3. the bible itslef mentions ALLah, as alah. it is mentioned in the Psalms that 'blessed is he who goes to bakkah(mecca)' in reference t the yearly pilgrimage of the muslims. 4. there is no doubt in my mind that the bible could have things that couldnt be understood, becasue the quran says that. the quran has predicted the issues we face with the bible. and it was obviously in a position to do so as it came, chronologically after the bible! 5. the mesage of jesus was no different thanthe message of muhammad, or moses,or jaco, david or whoever....it is only in how you interpret these messages 6 if you are still in doubt aout jesus' message go to this page http://www.irf.net/irf/comparativereligion/index.htm and then click the link 'islam' on the right side, then click on the link 'books' therein you will find a proof that jesus was indeed a messenger of islam. 7. if anybody wants, i have enough information to give both personally and electronically

The Bible is divided into two main parts, the Old Testament and the New Testament. Each part in turn is a collection of books depicting the Old Covenant between God and man (Old Testament) and the New Covenant (New Testament). The Old Testament contains all of the ancient Scriptures as handed down through the Judaism faith in the form of the Torah which is the oldest record of the Word of God. The Torah in its complete form is therefore very much part of the Bible in the Old Testament. [i]I have posted a more complete version of this comment as a separate blog. What ever you choice is, you need to have a guidance. may it be Islam, Christian, Hindu or any other religions. Ask for guidance. As GMNIMan said, without guidance there would be satan. Read and compare and ask. Ask your soul to lead you to the right path. The link forwarded by newmuslim is the best link for you to go through. May you find the right path in life.

    numbkris,

Hey bro, I was referred here by my buddy faithfuldisciple.

What happened to make your choice, kris? That's something awesome and good to share because you have discovered truth. And that in itself is amazing! Feel free to share and if you have any more questions please feel free to ask. I've been a Christian for 6 years and it's been one heck of a ride.

-I don't believe we can create heaven on earth. I think it ignores the real Heaven, not to mention it assumes that human beings can create a perfect world. We'd have to be perfect to achieve that, wouldn't you think? It hasn't happened in all of human history. I don't believe it will happen apart from God.

-Islam shares many roots and values with Christianity, but one good indicator of a religion's validity is what it says about Jesus Christ. According to eyewitnesses and those who were told accounts from eyewitnesses, Jesus stated to them that He had to die in order to set us free from sin. If Islam claims He never died, it therefore falsifies all of His claims and either ignores most of his ministry and life, or makes Jesus out to be a liar (why submit to crucifixion and tell your followers you're going to die, if you're not going to die at all?).

Scientology, formed by L. Ron Hubbard, who allegedly mentioned that there was no Christ, or maybe even that He slept with little boys. (this is no joke - wikipedia Hubbard and/or Scientology)

Mormonism's ultimate authority is Joseph Smith, not Jesus Christ. The Bible says not to add to Scripture, so what does the book of Mormon have to do with God's word?

Judaism does not recognize Jesus as the Messiah. Some Jews have kept to their traditions while giving up hope for a Messiah. Are they waiting rightly or did they miss the boat?

Buddhism's goal of enlightenment is essentially finding the way to a satisfying life without God. If that's possible, there's no reason Jesus had to die. The Buddhas were all men, no more. They had truths that resonated with many today, but they are all very much dead. Does that deserve our worship, over the Son of God who actually conquered death and is waiting to reclaim His kingdom on Earth?

These comments aren't meant to offend, but to raise very real questions about what we believe and what we know about religion. I don't think Scientologists or Mormons or Buddhists are stupid or immoral or dumb. At the same time, there is a reason why Christianity endures and it so controversial - because maybe, just maybe, it is right.
