Turtle means many things- in the UK turtle means poop.  Turtle can also be used as a way to describe an uncircumsized penis.  As for military terms, it means a replacement.  As a sport it means a surfing maneuver where a surfer hugs a long-board tightly and flips upside down to avoid the full force of an oncoming wave.
As for gaming a turtle means a primarily defensive strategy in various computer games.  It was also a term used in Teenage mutant ninja movies as a dance they did.
A turtle is also a slang term for tank in the military.

  • Grantlin__Graham said on Jun 29, 2007....

The answer he was looking for is: Are you a turtle?

You bet your sweet ass I am.

    Old saying in the Northeast.

  • hotaka said on Jun 29, 2007....
Okay, I'm out. I thought I would come up with something creative but I can see there is a turtle and Grantlin above me knows what it is. So, I'm out. Will stand by for the answer.
  • minniemouse said on Jun 29, 2007....
Grantlin...LOL...if that's what he's looking for, that reminds me of a drinking game we used to do in college called Cardinal Puff and when you "passed" and became a Cardinal you got to ask others if they were a Cardinal and the answer was "You bet your sweet ass I am!"...how funny....  :-)  MM
  • mom said on Jun 29, 2007....
I am not from the northeast. Can I say instead, "you bet their sweet ass they are"?
  • Grantlin__Graham said on Jun 30, 2007....

    Interesting the answers.

The northeast is a cauldron of diversity. The Italians, Irish, German, Amish,  Polish, Jewish, Hungarian, British and American Indians.

Each brought native dress, mores, customs, cuisine, language and arts. Each took up residence in a community unique and peculiar to it's own customs and ways.

Old saws such as " turtle" became a way of identification.

It was common knowledge among the more sophisticated of the region acknowledge that the "turtle" as a stamp of approval. It came from the belief, never authenticated that the Mohican Indians were called the Turtle tribe and each had a tattoo on the shoulder.

Was that part of the mystique? Still not known.

Are you a turtle or cardinal? You bet your sweet ass I am. It is still a cute exchange between boyfriends and girlfriends. Odd of that?

That is really interest GG. Thanks for sharing that.
What does cops have to say?
  • jadestar said on Jul 02, 2007....
These are the things I found on Google (perhaps I searched too deep):
    1. Pastor Ellen Tatreau has a bolg/site called Voice of the Turtle Online - he is proud to announce on his site his affiliation with the American Baptist Churches. And his catch phrase is "Behold the turtle: It only makes progress when it sticks its neck out"
...mmm, I may be be wrong, but I somehow don't think that's the one.
    2. Another Voice of the Turtle: Derek burrows & Jay Rosenberg, etc, have focussed their creative energies on Judeo-Spanish music - to Quote: "the compelling musical repertoire of the Spanish Jews - the Sephardim".
    3. And yet another: The Voice of the turtle: "An enthusiastic and nonsectarian cyberjournal of left-wing politics, dedicated to the construction of Socialism On One Website"

I've gone from Baptist ministers to singing Spanish jews to left-wing journalists...but there's more...

    4. Voice of the Turtle was a 1943 Broadway hit then a 1947 comedy-film, though I couldn't find any more info as to the content of both the film & play, except that Ronald Reagan was in the film

Perhaps I shouldn't play any more.

Really interessted to hear from Cops on this one.....

oh, & at this point, I'm really not sure if I am a turtle - I refuse to answer on the grounds that it might incriminate me...
  • jadestar said on Jul 02, 2007....
Somehow I think that 'mom' is closer to the answer than I am... if that's the case: I've never been circumcised & well,...um...I'm not a turtle...
  • skald said on Jul 03, 2007....
    Cops.Tell us the answer please.
  • Me-Myself&I said on Jul 03, 2007....

TURTLE-any of an order of horny-beaked land, freshwater, or sea reptiles

with the trunk enclosed in a bony shell.-Webster's Dictionary

Now ...a turtle is a 'SIGN' or symbol of frustrated ambition due to hidden

     hostility!

OK i have no bony shell,.......so physically i am not a turtle!

But i act as one....always hiding from my frustrated hostility!!!!!

SO............ tell us old mighty one.......Are YOU a turtle?

  • Grantlin__Graham said on Jul 04, 2007....
The turtle is a sign of brotherhood. It is tattooed on the shoulder of those of the brotherhood. Grantlin came the closest  with the Mohican Indians. They were the clan (tribe) of the turtle. Amazing. yes?
  • skald said on Jul 04, 2007....
    This was interesting.
  • blastfromthepast said on Jul 04, 2007....
So, my initial answer was right then.  I am not a turtle.  I used to be a fox, though, but now I'm an old boot, lol!
  • skymir said on Jul 12, 2007....
What happened to this person? Cops are you still bloging? Why is it that this seeming innocuous post has a vast number of “views?” Is it the last post by this user? And incidentally I am a bear.
  • Grantlin__Graham said on Jul 24, 2007....

There is no way for anyone to ever catch up with this event. Mr. Cops was booted off SoulCast because he got into a conversation with a juvenile member of the SC staff. Although he never said anything untoward he was summarily kicked off. Freedom of speech suffered that day. It was a mockery of the "free wheeling"  and uncensored advertised objective of SoulCast.

Even today  after reading the entire event several times under LadyGamers blog we cannot understand why, other than the punk teen could not handle an intelligent adult on a one to one confrontation.

4086 views?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  LOLOL a lot of people must be concerned about being a turtle.  Oh that is funny.
  • mom said on Aug 20, 2007....
Is that the most views that has ever been received?  That seems like an awful lot for a turtle question. LOLOL
  • catch22 said on Aug 14, 2008....
that was a very deep, heart felt question, and it might take a lifetime to think it all out properly. My first answer would be no....I'm a fruitfly...but that leads to another topic altogether.<):0 })
  • copsunite said on Aug 14, 2008....
I'm just a COP. That's sort of turtleish
  • hottips4u said on Aug 14, 2008....
I am a fox, while some may have bred with a few turtles, the turtle blood is what it is, odds are there was turtles traveling far, all headed to or from :/ one island, at one time.
