Wimbledon just started and a few issues bothered me as I was watching the ESPN coverage.

First, Australian Darren Cahill, former Agassi's coach, made a speech claiming that Lleyton Hewitt would make it to the finals.  "What? Are you kidding?"

First, commentators are supposed to be impartial, and when they are not, at least they must have a reason to speak for their own guy--an Australian in the case of Cahill.

Hewitt peaked a while ago and hasn't been able to reach the top for a long time. To all of a sudden affirm that he will be in the finals, and that he has a chance to beat Nadal, of all people, I thought was outrageous.  Mind you, there was a rain delay and ESPN was running out of material.

And speaking of Nadal. Has anyone noticed how often he adjusts the back of his underwear? You'd think Nike could make him shorts that fit well. It is quite disgusting to watch him separate his legs to pull his underwear from his butt crack.  If I were rich, I am sure I could spend a couple of bucks buying proper clothes, to spare millions of TV viewers from watching me put my hand in my rear end.

And speaking of past-prime athletes, how about Venus Williams?

After watching her struggle to win her first round match with an unknown Russian, I've decided that Venus is history already.

I have a theory about Venus. She was born gifted. With long legs, decent height, and natural strength, she has never needed to work too hard in practice to be in match form. Even when she was #1, she was in University and operating his design business on the side.

While other athletes made it to the top by working out four-hours a day or more, Venus merely warmed up for a couple of hours and that was good enough to beat everybody.

But she was 20 then, she is "old" at 27 now. She could still be at the top, but to do that at 27, she has to work a lot harder, like the other tennis players do. But she doesn't have the discipline, because she has never had to work so hard.

She also needs a real coach.

Regardless, though, I believe Venus peaked a while ago, and it will be all downhill from now on. Too bad.

That's all I saw today at Wimbledon! Let's see what tomorrow brings
